No. TCU is still the #3 seed and still has a better resume than Ohio State.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
Yup. Rematch only if Georgia loses and we win. Or in championship game if Ohio State beats Georgia.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:20 PM ^
No rematch.
If Georgia loses and we win, they’ll have osu jump tcu. We’re playing tcu no matter what happens.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:21 PM ^
That makes sense since we just played Ohio State. Better matchups for all concerned if they have Ohio State jump OSU in event of Georgia loss and Michigan win.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
Yeah I think they massage the rankings as needed to make it Georgia-Ohio State and Michigan-TCU. They've already shown they don't like semi-final rematches and Georgia/Michigan are clearly top 2 I think even if 1 or both lose
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
They've shown that for SEC teams, I'm not convinced the B1G will get the same respect.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
This is the correct answer. I’m not confident Michigan gets the Alabama treatment
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:57 PM ^
The good news is we looked good against Bama a couple of years ago. Shea shit the bed in the second half. Otherwise that game was very winnable.
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:34 PM ^
This right here. I said this even before we wilded out in Columbus last weekend. If both teams make it into the final four, I'm certain they'll force us to play each other, unlike how they white gloved the SEC both times that's happened.
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:21 PM ^
Good, delaying the UGA beat down a week is a good thing.
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:25 PM ^
Gives time for Blake to heal.
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:26 PM ^
I would certainly like to see OsU go jump itself
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:48 PM ^
No rematch. TCU put them in position for the 3 or 4 whatever was needed.
not that it matters now
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
That's what I am thinking. A three point loss in overtime (to a team they had beaten previously) beats a 22 point loss.
Also, I don't think the committee will want a rematch in the first round of the playoffs, like last year with Alabama and Georgia.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
Also beating K State is a better win than Penn State and the secondary wins are WAY better because the Big Ten is absolute ass after the top three.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:17 PM ^
This^, it'd be some technical tweaks made staff-side and not by the players if we matchup again. Wouldn't hold the same allure as The Game. You diminish the concept of our rivalry if you bring UoM and osu back for another round.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:01 PM ^
The committee doesn't care about our rivalry. They do care about ratings and protecting the big dog, UGA.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:01 PM ^
It was also a neutral site championship game loss vs. an OSU home game lopsided loss.
December 4th, 2022 at 1:06 AM ^
22 point home loss
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
Exactly - a 3pt OT loss in their CCG is much better than getting blown out at home in your largest, most self-hyped and prepped, game of the season.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
Sadly, yes. In the semi final. Makes tonight’s game almost meaningless. Win or lose. Yes, win, we get a trophy but what if we lose to Ohio.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
Terrible take Bob - on so many levels. First of all, a B1G championship is a huge deal. Period. Also, stop fearing osu. We have their number, and they are soft. The committee will not have us rematch osu in the semis. They can use many different angles to avoid that, and they will.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:22 PM ^
Yes!^ they're not to be feared. People are buying into that shit that ryan day is some maniacal genius and crafted The Game loss.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
Well Ryan Day is starting off every at-bat already on 3rd base.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:59 PM ^
Right now he's facing a 1-2 count and about to strike out.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
Why?
You’re so damned certain that “the committee” will not have a semifinal rematch. This, despite the fact that there is no rule against it, and that they have continually stated that they do not take rematches into account.
If they’re never going to have a rematch, why the subterfuge? Why not just say that? Are you really going to punish the #1 team by giving them a matchup against #3 because #2 already played them? I swear, it’s a conspiracy theory at this point — you have to believe that the committee members have been lying for years despite the fact that it gains them nothing.
There is a very real possibility that we have a semifinal rematch. And there is a very real possibility that OSU wins it — at best, Michigan is maybe a 55% favorite. That means there’s a 45% chance that the beautiful win in Columbus is nullified. Furthermore, we could look forward to four weeks of buildup where the only story is if OSU can exact revenge. Michigan becomes an afterthought.
The more I think about this, the sicker I get to my stomach, and the more my hatred for USC rises.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
Lighten up. It's all good and UM will play somebody and either win or lose and a great season was had. I am sorry but I did not think when the season began UM would play for a CFPC given roster and all that transpired off season. Have you not been entertained? It's a UM opinion and message board and there are differences.
This season has been a joy despite my permanently ceasing following all other of my pro teams (except Lions-thanks Aidan) and having a series of health issues that turned out well. I wish I could say this team doesn't mean as much as it does but I'd be lying. Imperfections of youth aside I am extremely proud to be a Michigan Wolverine fan since 1969.
Ups and downs and allegations have smudged some of it but I think our coaches and AD have the schools best interest and perception measured and in a way the state is well served along with the students rights and interests (long term). I would not say that about most of our opponents and that eternally pleases me. I am not crying you are crying has applied out of happiness delivered by people less than 23.
December 4th, 2022 at 1:39 AM ^
Exactly. Comparison is the thief of joy. Enjoy the moment, it took a long time to get here and im not going to let who we might potentially face or not face ruin anything. Want to win a natty, you have to beat the teams in front of you, whether that is TCU or OSU, its still the same. 2 more wins!
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
Sack up, Bob.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:55 PM ^
What a shit take, Bob
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:56 PM ^
I would add this…in the day and age of CFP, a conversation needs to be had about conference championships. TCU had next to nothing to gain and a lot to lose by playing in the conference championship.
They absolutely should be #3 amd I don’t want to hear a word from Bama about pushing them out. You can’t penalize a team that much for playing an extra game. In theory, they could’ve declined to play and would have locked up a playoff.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
Can’t teach speed. Can’t fix stupid.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:35 PM ^
I’m just here to pile on bob. Your take stinks bob. I gave you an up vote though for allowing me to pile on
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
This exactly. I'd be surprised, let me correct myself.. VERY surprised if TCU got moved down to #4.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:30 PM ^
The committee will come up with any justification they can to separate OSU and UofM in the brackets. And they will make it sound just fine.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
That's what I am thinking, will the committee put a one loss team that played in their conference championship and lost in ot behind a one loss team that got their asses handed to them in their only loss and didnt make the conference championship?
I'd love to see a rematch with Fohio in the championship game.
December 3rd, 2022 at 6:10 PM ^
I would like to see FOhio go into the off-season on a two loss streak. Better than loosing to Michigan in the finals and claiming to be the second best team in the country.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:48 PM ^
I think this is the best case outcome for the committee.
If Georgia wins, they can keep TCU (after a championship week OT loss) at 3, UM at 2, and then UGA and OSU 1 and 4.
If Georgia loses and UM moves up to #1, they can drop TCU to 4, justifying today’s loss as the reasoning and point to OSU being ranked above TCU all year when the records were the same.
Michigan vs. TCU on New Year’s Eve, and while I admire greatly the player Max Duggan is, I don’t fear that TCU team, even with 4 weeks to prepare for UM.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
This is exactly it. May the lord have mercy on the hand-wringers.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:28 PM ^
The fact that this needs to be said out loud is embarrassing. I enjoying the arrogance of knowing I'm a member of one of the smartest fan bases in the country (in terms of knowing the sport and the climate). This is a dumb question, I mean REALLY dumb.
OP you embarrass yourself and dishonor our name.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:13 PM ^
Root for a Georgia loss now I guess.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
How bout we just kick Ohio States Ass Again!
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:22 PM ^
We did it banged up.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:34 PM ^
That would be acceptable.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
We live rent-free in tOSU heads. We will beat them again, semi or finals. Better team and coaches.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
No - we get TCU if we take care of business tonight:
If Georgia wins, they have the easy narrative that TCU only lost one game to a top 10 team that they had already beaten earlier in the season while osu sat on their butt plugs. On the other hand, if Georgia loses and Michigan wins, we become the number one team in the nation. It is easy to spin the narrative that Ohio State‘s loss was only to the number one team in the country, thus they go up to three and TCU drops to four. Rematch in the semis avoided with easy narrative shift.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
I don't even get these fools. The committee showed last year that they aren't going to match up the same teams from a conference. There is no way they will match UM/OSU in a first game.
December 3rd, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
No, no they didn’t.
They showed that winning the ESS-EEE-SEE is the most amazing feat in the world and therefore Alabama is the #1 team. They didn’t show anything about rematches. And they especially didn’t show anything about rematches that would apply to the Big Ten.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:04 PM ^
They absolutely showed everything about rematches. Just calm down.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
