So... With TCU's loss, what happens now? Is a rematch basically guaranteed?

Why?

You’re so damned certain that “the committee” will not have a semifinal rematch.  This, despite the fact that there is no rule against it, and that they have continually stated that they do not take rematches into account.

If they’re never going to have a rematch, why the subterfuge?  Why not just say that?  Are you really going to punish the #1 team by giving them a matchup against #3 because #2 already played them?  I swear, it’s a conspiracy theory at this point — you have to believe that the committee members have been lying for years despite the fact that it gains them nothing.

There is a very real possibility that we have a semifinal rematch.  And there is a very real possibility that OSU wins it — at best, Michigan is maybe a 55% favorite.  That means there’s a 45% chance that the beautiful win in Columbus is nullified.  Furthermore, we could look forward to four weeks of buildup where the only story is if OSU can exact revenge.  Michigan becomes an afterthought.

The more I think about this, the sicker I get to my stomach, and the more my hatred for USC rises.

Lighten up. It's all good and UM will play somebody and either win or lose and a great season was had. I am sorry but I did not think when the season began UM would play for a CFPC given roster and all that transpired off season. Have you not been entertained? It's a UM opinion and message board and there are differences.

This season has been a joy despite my permanently ceasing following all other of my pro teams (except Lions-thanks Aidan) and having a series of health issues that turned out well. I wish I could say this team doesn't mean as much as it does but I'd be lying. Imperfections of youth aside I am extremely proud to be a Michigan Wolverine fan since 1969.

Ups and downs and allegations have smudged some of it but I think our coaches and AD have the schools best interest and perception measured and in a way the state is well served along with the students rights and interests (long term). I would not say that about most of our opponents and that eternally pleases me. I am not crying you are crying has applied out of happiness delivered by people less than 23.

I would add this…in the day and age of CFP, a conversation needs to be had about conference championships. TCU had next to nothing to gain and a lot to lose by playing in the conference championship.

They absolutely should be #3 amd I don’t want to hear a word from Bama about pushing them out. You can’t penalize a team that much for playing an extra game. In theory, they could’ve declined to play and would have locked up a playoff.

That's what I am thinking, will the committee put a one loss team that played in their conference championship and lost in ot behind a one loss team that got their asses handed to them in their only loss and didnt make the conference championship?

I'd love to see a rematch with Fohio in the championship game.

I think this is the best case outcome for the committee.

If Georgia wins, they can keep TCU (after a championship week OT loss) at 3, UM at 2, and then UGA and OSU 1 and 4.

If Georgia loses and UM moves up to #1, they can drop TCU to 4, justifying today’s loss as the reasoning and point to OSU being ranked above TCU all year when the records were the same.

Michigan vs. TCU on New Year’s Eve, and while I admire greatly the player Max Duggan is, I don’t fear that TCU team, even with 4 weeks to prepare for UM.

The fact that this needs to be said out loud is embarrassing. I enjoying the arrogance of knowing I'm a member of one of the smartest fan bases in the country (in terms of knowing the sport and the climate). This is a dumb question, I mean REALLY dumb.

OP you embarrass yourself and dishonor our name.

No - we get TCU if we take care of business tonight:

If Georgia wins, they have the easy narrative that TCU only lost one game to a top 10 team that they had already beaten earlier in the season while osu sat on their butt plugs. On the other hand, if Georgia loses and Michigan wins, we become the number one team in the nation. It is easy to spin the narrative that Ohio State‘s loss was only to the number one team in the country, thus they go up to three and TCU drops to four. Rematch in the semis avoided with easy narrative shift.
