Let's play some of the freshmen in the deep rotation.  It's not like it's been proven that freshmen can't contribute in college basketball.  Au contraire.  We don't need another portal transfer.  We've got size.  We've got rebounding. We've got defense. We've got shooting.  We've got ball handling.  Let's go!

Exactly right, IMO.  Let's…

Exactly right, IMO.  Let's not get greedy.  We got Wolf and Walters and they deserve to play, as does Tschetter.  Last thing we need is a 5 star coming in to play because the stars demand it.

My point is that there is no…

My point is that there is no one definition of a "4".  Moussa Diabate would seem to be the prototypical 4.  But there are lots of 4s, some stronger in rebounding and defense, and some stronger in 3 point shooting.

But from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_positions :

Power forward[edit]

Main article: Power forward (basketball)

The power forward (PF), also known as the four, often plays a role similar to that of the center, down in the "post" or "low blocks". The power forward is often the team's most powerful and dependable scorer, being able to score close to the basket while also being able to shoot mid-range jump shots from 10 to 15 feet from the basket. Power forwards are also very crafty and have to be versatile on both offense and defense, but not as much as a small forward. Power forwards usually have good footwork in the paint and are able to force players into bad shots or blocking shots when guarding the paint.[13] Some power forwards have become known as stretch fours, since extending their shooting range to three-pointers. On defense, they are required to have the strength to guard bigger players close to the basket and to have the athleticism to guard quick players away from the basket. Most power forwards tend to be more versatile than centers since they can be part of plays and are not always in the low block. A tall power forward over 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m) can be a forward-center, playing PF and C. A smaller power forward, approximately 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m), can play combo forward, playing SF part-time. In the NBA, power forwards usually range from 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m) to 7 feet 0 inches (2.13 m).[14]

Who would you rather have at the 4, Sam Walters or Moussa Diabate?  Nothing against Moussa, but Walters seems like the better 4, even if Moussa is more highly valued by the NBA for potential many years down the road.  In college bball, Moussa is exactly what you don't want, while Walters is money. Kaching as another 3 pointer drops.

When I watch that drive, the thing that impresses me is the pre-snap  movement, flawlessly executed and moving into the play like a well oiled machine. Very professional looking!

The 2nd half woes reflect a lack of depth, compound by the suspension of Dug and the injury to Nkamhoua.

He would definitely have been sacked in a real game on the throw where the commentators praised him for hanging in the pocket.

Yes, we should definitely…

Yes, we should definitely roll with 2 QBs -- Orji and one of the more passing oriented QBs.  Don't hit the portal as we proved this past year that football is a team game. The team is being built this spring.  Also, Peyton O'Leary is ready to make a big step up.

I watched it on TV.  It seemed to be something like watching a fireworks show -- awesome to witness.  There seems to be a longing for community activities such as this, where no one cares what your identity is or who you favor politically.  People want to be in groups with other people, focusing on something bigger than ourselves.

Ohio State was horrible in…

Ohio State was horrible in its bowl game, and that should be taken into consideration.  It shows that there wasn't sufficient pride and competitiveness to be a top team.  Same with Michigan the years some of our better players sat out the bowl game.  Also, it shows a lack of depth.  Hard to believe how bad Ohio State was offensively in their bowl game.

Tschetter is one of my…

Tschetter is one of my favorites.  So this is good news.  I actually liked all the players on this year's team.  They were just one or two pieces short, and then got hit by Dug's suspension and Nkamhoua's injury.  It was tough all around and I feel bad for Juwan -- starting out the season with heart surgery (?) and never really got up to speed.  There's lesson in here someplace about coaching your sons.  Also, 5 stars.

Josh Wallace worked out well at Michigan.  Seems like another quality athlete who can help some NFL team.  Held his own against the best in college...

I thought Brady was much better than Henne in college.  I remember mostly disappointment from Henne's time at Michigan, whereas Brady's senior (5th) year was a beautiful thing to behold.

Terrell seems the best answer, but Henson isn't far behind. What an absolute flop in pro sports!

Thanks for that!  The pure joy from Barnhart and everybody on the field after Corum took it in was amazing.

I believe Wallace was the last piece we acquired to complete the national championship puzzle.  Made 2 key 3rd down stops against Alabama.

Michigan was pretty damn…

Michigan was pretty damn close to great in the last 6 games (Penn State - Washignton).  I don't remember many turnovers. The defense was outstanding.  The offense did what it needed to.

Harbaugh leaving Michigan…

Harbaugh leaving Michigan for the NFL would make as much sense as Beilein leaving Michigan for the NBA.  No coach in their right mind would make that move.

Harbaugh is a made man at Michigan.  He's 60 years old and has nothing left to prove.  His chances of getting back to the Super Bowl are not good.  His chance of remaining a contender in college football are very good.  He's at home in Ann Arbor and loves his job.

Really?

Really?

Thanks for this post, as it…

Thanks for this post, as it clarifies the situation.  On the video, it looks like Decker and someone else from the Lions walk up to the ref (followed a bit later by #70 of the Lions).  The ref runs away after a split second, so if there was a miscommunication, it seems likely to have been on the ref's part.  I'm guessing the ref knew ahead of time about the plan, and so he figured it didn't need to listen closely to the report by Decker or the other guy.  He assumed he already knew the details but it turned out different than he thought in advance.

I'd like to hear Decker or the other Lion's take on this.

Nope.  They (FSU players who…

Nope.  They (FSU players who opted out) quit.  That's their legacy, and well deserved.

If you're a football player, you should play for the love of the game, the team, the fans.  No excuse.

As a fan, I'm not interested…

As a fan, I'm not interested in any team where the star players don't play because they're scared of getting injured.  So screw Florida State, screw Penn State, screw Ohio State, screw all of college football. But the turning point for Michigan was when players such as Ross and Hutchinson came back even after they could have turned pro.  That's what we fans like!

College football teams need…

College football teams need to start playing 2 QBs every week.  Maybe recruit one dual threat and give that QB significant action in case the drop back QB goes down.  Ohio State's 3rd stringer wasn't up to the task, almost by design as the offense went into a shell when he came in the game.  All teams will do better when the QB runs, but the threat of an injury means you need a decent backup.

There's hope for the Big Ten…

There's hope for the Big Ten (including us).  One of our top teams actually scored a touchdown.  We're not all Iowa?

A screen pass!  Why didn't Ohio State think of that?

Yep!  Our 2 best wins…

Yep!  Our 2 best wins looking a lot less impressive.

OSU looked pretty good their last when they were throwing on almost every down.  They tried some wildcat stuff when their QB went down, and it didn't work well.  Missou started teeing off.  Perhaps some quick passes would have opened up the running game.  But credit to Missou.  They beat the mighty Buckeyes!

I would be mighty upset…

I would be mighty upset myself, if I were an OSU fan. Remember when they won the national championship with their 3rd string QB?  Day took the bait this year and tried to be tough.  Should've stuck to his NFL passing offense.  Easy for me to say in retrospect.

I've been rooting for Ohio State, since beating them was Michigan's biggest achievement again this year.

This seems to be another data point regarding recruiting 5 stars. They don't help your team if they sit our for fear of being injured.

Yup.

I was hoping for more…

Yup.

I was hoping for more from Poole in his sophomore year, but he wasn't good and then left for the pros.  Huge disappointment for Wolverine fans, but he ended up making it big in the NBA, so kudos to him.

Re "5 Stars gonna 5 stars on NYD", I'm not so sure.  I'd rather have a bunch of seniors like Barrett, Sainristil, and Corum, along with a veteran QB like JJ.

Poole was a disappointment…

Poole was a disappointment at Michigan, outside of one shot.  Credit to him for being a key part of an NBA chamption.  I never expected that.

Houstan is horrible, as is Jett Howard.  Maybe I'll be proved wrong again, but if so it will take many years.

Each team (Alabama and…

Each team (Alabama and Michigan) had 2 losses.  So this would be an also-ran bowl game by today's standards.  Wise people would be saying that Brady shouldn't play.

Jett Howard and Caleb…

Jett Howard and Caleb Houstan are no doubt lighting it up, as only 5 stars can.

You sign up to play college…

You sign up to play college football and you're signing up for at least 36 games over 3 years.  Playing one extra game presents a very low percentage chance of a career defining injury.  On the other hand, playing in that last game could very well define your career if you're at the Joe Milton level.  And even a Marvin Harrsion caliber may end up with the best football memory from that last college game.  Certainly, it will be a factor in how you're thought of by fans and media.  I would definitely play in the last game for my college team, and it would be a smart move financially.  Jake Butt could just as easily have been injured in his first pre-season pro football game.  But his reputation shines here in Michigan!

When I think of an "also-ran…

When I think of an "also-ran" bowl game, I think of the 2000 Orange Bowl between the Michigan Wolverines and the Alabama Crimson Tide

Quarterback Tom Brady, making his final collegiate appearance, led Michigan to the win, throwing for a career-high 369 yards and four touchdowns, while leading the team back from a pair of 14-point deficits in regulation (14–0 in the first half, and 28–14 in the second). Brady threw the game-winning score in overtime on a bootleg to tight end Shawn Thompson. The game was won by Michigan when Alabama's placekicker, Ryan Pflugner, missed an extra point following their own touchdown. This was the first BCS Bowl game to go into overtime.

This was Brady's final game for the Michigan Wolverines. He was selected 199th overall in the 2000 NFL draft by the New England Patriots.
