OT: Yahoo Report implicates Miles Bridges in Dirty Dealings with ASM Sports Agency

Submitted by WorldwideTJRob on

Looks as if Izzo will have to answer more uncomfortable questions at his press conferences. They go into detail that Miles Bridges Mom took $500 on some documents at the agency. This would make him ineligible immediately and probably would spell the end for Coach Izzo at MSU.

He's 63 years old, and is involved in some way with a massive recruiting scandal the FBI is investigating. You really think he's long for the profession if this slow drip of recruiting and "not really giving a shit about sexual assault" issues keeps dripping out?

Have we not already seen what lengths schools will go to, in order to protect the golden calf?  Michigan State in particular?  Yes, I think it's blatantly clear Sparty will circle the wagons and act like nothing ever happened.  There's not a Sparty fan in existence who hasn't already rationalized everything and come to the conclusion that it's just a witch hunt.

Josh Jackson, Eric Davis, Myles Bridges, Kyle Kuzema... Not surprising that there are so many people from the state involved since Dawkins is from here. Also might explain why UM was never really in on those guys.

$500 from one agent who was indicted. Look at how many players failed to sign with ASM when they got to the league. Do you think there was only one "corrupt" agency in town? The FBI had wiretaps on Dawkins, not the players. We can presume that these players were also being courted by other agents, who likely were willing to offer benefits as well. What we know is that it appears that Miles's mother received at least $500, at least.

Think of it if you're State. You keep the amount low to limit cashflow, but still break the rules. Then the threat is blackmail, not the dollars that keeps him in school.

"Miles, if you leave we're going to announce that we found this impermissible benefit, suspend you, and totally smear you, tanking your draft stock and costing you millions. MSU will get off with no issues because it's only $500"

I don't think the NBA cares about the dollars. I think the NBA/Fanbase/GMs might care if Izzo says "We really liked what Miles did for us this year and we wish him the best, but he's immature. He is in NO way ready for the NBA and we wholly disagree with his decision. He proved that he can't follow rules by taking this gift, and he'll be a risk to whoever drafts him".

If Duke ends up getting its hands a little dirty here, will Coach K, after denying any involvement, be:

A. Shocked

B. Disappointed

C. Saddened

D. All of the above

Also, how is Kansas not in the list of schools?

Josh Jackson is listed here as having gotten a couple thousand dollars. And that was months before he even committed to Kansas, and over a year before he signed with an agent (that wound up not being ASM).

That their parents received the money.

But with the Ed Martin fiasco, it was the players, umm yeah ok...

Time for the NCAA to grow some balls and hand out some sanctions, even if it means a shit 2018 tournament.

But yeah, we could be a 2 seed now....lol

Agreed....but, as has been pointed out elsewhere, it's not like Dawkins was the only guy in town. If someone takes $400 from one guy, reasonable to assume that they'd take more money from others, particularly those who actually land the player (i.e. bagmen, Draymond Green, etc).

Plus, there are 4,000 phone calls that were tapped. We've only seen a tiny spreadsheet, which is just a snapshot of all the evidence. Probably more to come as Yahoo seems to be releasing little teasers here and there.

I didn't realize impermissible benefits were graded on a "come on, guys" scale. Yes, a dinner and a $400 loan are small potatoes, but (a) there is undoubtedly more that hasn't been full reported, and (b) they still broke the rules. You don't accept money from an agent when your kid is in school; that's it. You don't like that rule, then either lead for changes in the NCAA or go overseas. But that's a clear rule that most teams abide by.

I know myself and others got on Coach B for not going after players like Sumner, Jackson and Bridges. We now know the reason why! Love the fact we can sleep easy at night knowing are coach is ethically sound.

happened if Beilein had gotten fired. Every prospective coach would infer that it was because recruiting honestly wasn't good enough for Michigan. We'd have to be incredibly careful with the next hire or NCAA trouble would follow.

Of course the fans clamoring for Beilein's head wanted someone with a different recruiting philosophy.

If MSU will stand by Izzo after mishandling and being involved in the cover ups of rape,  and domestic violence situations...there is no way he gets fired over this. The only way he leaves MSU is if the FBI themselves remove him from campus.

I don't think he'll be fired, but I also suspect he might retire early. I mean, he's a millionaire 63 year old who has been exposed now for not handling sexual assaults well and possibly recruiting guys illegally. Like, none of that sounds fun going forward, and it will undoubtedly make his life more difficult. If I was him, get out and enjoy your life.
