OT - Friday Night, Let’s Drink

I've been exploring canned cocktails lately. Sipping on a Cutwater Tiki Rum Mai Tai tonight. 12.5% and a good change of pace from the strong ales I usually go for. Was sorry to read though that Cutwater was bought by Anheuser Busch last year. Tasty drink but I probably won't be buying it again.

I get the feeling that your overwhelming need to share this with us was whole reason you started this thread.

Now I'm going to go out and buy a 12-pack of Bud Light just to spite you.

Was hoping for canned cocktail recommendations actually

If that were the case you should’ve, you know, asked for some recommendations. Instead you chose to let us all know how you’re boycotting Anheuser-Busch. Good for you.

I could give a shit less if you never drink another AH product in your life or even your reasons for it. It’s your right. But it sounded to me like you were pussyfooting around and making a political statement in your post.

Or maybe I’m wrong and you weren’t making a political statement. If that’s the case I apologize. There’s been too much politics on the board lately and I might be overly sensitive.

There have been A LOT of good reasons to avoid buying AB InBev products for a looooong time that have nothing to do with their pro-LGBT marketing ploys. Generally speaking, unless you're one of their shareholders eager to take advantage of disproportionate market power, it's pretty normal to look at market consolidation as a bad thing.

Rather cringe, my dude. Of all the completely rational and progressive-aligned reasons to be disappointed at Anheuser Busch gobbling up yet another player in the beverage market, you go there. Really?

C'mon, man. This ain't it. Narrow-minded, hypervigilant, and condescending behavior just gives people valid reason to hold your views in contempt and distracts from their merit. Upvotes from the peanut gallery be damned. Let's all try to do better, eh?

I'm not drinking it right now because I haven't been able to find it anywhere but my favorite beer is Maharaja Indian pilsner, not to be confused with Avery Brewing's Maharaja IPA. It's delightful and easy to drink.

Beer should be common ground. It cuts across socio economic lines. It is a refreshing and inexpensive beverage that all walks of life enjoy. Like a coke. Bud Lite did one modest product placement with a trans YouTube personality and 30% of the US lost their damned minds. You know, if an Ohio State fan, or worse, a Trumper, said “I really like Two Hearted,” I would tip my hat to their taste, and our common humanity. I have done so, many times. It is not hard. It is water, hops, barley, yeast, and it does not politick !

Not sure if serious but I'll bite. My first read was the older concern, especially amongst the craft beer bros of not wanting to drink the "sell outs" to the corporate suits. Leine, Goose Island, Terrapin and other highly successful former craft breweries sold to AB or MillerCoors. Many didn't want to buy "corporate" beer preferring local independents.

But yes there is the recent boycott of AB due to transphobia from a influencer/model/whatever who posted on IG/TT/whatever who was drinking Bud Light.

Anheuser Busch is owned by ABInBev, which is notorious for anti-competitive business practices. In addition to the linked examples they bought up the local Ann Arbor homebrew shop (Adventures in Homebrewing), apparently brokered by a shadow entity to trick the owners into thinking they were selling to someone who will continue operations, then liquidated the business to bolster their Northern Brewer supply.

To use the parlance of our times, "
[way more than] A million bucks from fucking needy [craft and homebrewers]! [ABInbev] are scum, man!"
