OT: Better Call Saul. Final season episode 10 (warning: spoilers)
Well. Wow! I thought the episode was weird (but still good). We all knew that they’d have to address the Gene T timeline, and so here we are in spades. They way they built that up just to get back at the taxi driver from season 4. Just wow!
Is Kim done for good?
Im still waiting for the White/Pinkman cameo.
Also, great reference to the big ten and Michigan football in there. I knew there was a reason why this show rules!
That perfect (Better Call Saul) crime was incredibly tense and hilarious. Every episode delivers. Breaking Bad won the Emmy every single year - yet, somehow, I have enjoyed this series even more. Just incredible television.
I agree. This has been the rare spinoff that has not only enhanced the original, but possibly supplanted it. When Saul used Walter White as an example during that pep talk, I couldn’t help but chuckle at how pissed Walt would be if he could hear Saul taking so much credit for molding him into a drug kingpin.
Here's my Bob Odenkirk story: when my son was a junior in high school, we went on a tour of NYU. Bob Odenkirk was in our small tour group with his kid, but he was in disguise, wearing a big floppy hat and sunglasses, something only Bob Odenkirk would try to pass off as a disguise. It made him even more Bob Odenkirkish.
Not sure why they jumped so far ahead in the storyline. Seemed like there should/could have been more pre-Breaking Bad ground to cover.
Don't worry, it's coming...
Besides what happened to Kim after the break-up with Saul, I'm not so sure if there is much pre-Breaking Bad material to cover. We already know what happens to Gus/Mike/cartel/etc. Maybe Tuco gets out and there is something there.
There is supposed to be a cameo of Walt and Jesse, so maybe that's it. I dunno.
I agree. The only important story left is Saul and Kim. I hope the writers don't tie it too much in with BB because the show should stand on it's own. We know the fate of everyone except Saul and Kim.
Cameo from WW and Jesse and maybe Tuco and/or one of Jesse's friends.
Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were on set filming for 4 days last summer, so it figures to be more than a brief cameo.
I think the Kim storyline is done. She left, and Saul is now solo. Not much else left on that one.
I think there will be some more "in color" stuff, but if you like podcasts, go ahead and listen to the episode of The Watch after last weeks episode. It's got an interview with creator Peter Gould and they talk about what unanswered questions might still need to be addressed, as well as Gould's excitement about how the last few episodes might run counter to expectations.
I don't want this show to end. The writing for this show is top notch.
Vince Gilligan is a genius I love the way he draws you in
A bit of a different episode. They needed to tie up the Gene and cabbie scene. It wasn't quite the way I expected. The scheme scene at the department store was tense and funny. At the end we see Gene checking out that wild shirt and tie that would never go together. I think he still longs for Kim but like the shirt and tie they just don't belong together. Maybe he finally realizes it. Can't wait for next Monday's show.
His personal hell is wearing a plain Cinnabon shirt every day for eternity.
I wonder if this episode will become known as the Jeffie Bottle episode. I’ve never met an actual Jeffie. Jeff or Jeffrey, yes, but never a Jeffie. I don’t think it moved the story along much, but it was a classic BCS episode. It’s a call-back to first season cons that Jimmy and Kim pulled. You can take the boy out of Albuquerque and change his name (twice,) but he’s still that kid who wants to be in the game.
I found a timeline of Breaking Bad. According to that, Saul flees for Nebraska in March, 2010. A mere 6 months later (based on the Nebraska football stuff) he has tired of the daily Cinnabon routine and has started planning his next caper. He was nudged there by Jeffie, but he could have fled. Instead, he embraced the adrenaline rush.
I do envy the actor who got to eat all those Cinnabons. He must’ve died and gone to heaven. Imagine going in to interview for that part and finding out what your roll was. “You want me to do what now?” I don’t think I would require a paycheck for that job.

I don't think the timing works here. The basis of the Nebraska football talk included:
- About them joining the Big Ten (hence why Michigan was mentioned),
- About Martinez as a QB
- About Bo Pelini as a coach
This would highly suggest that the timeline is closer to 2011, than 2020.
Edited my comment to 2010. Thanks for the correction.
It’s the 2010 season. So about 7 months after he moved to Nebraska. He mentioned losing to unranked Texas, which was October 2010. Their last season before joining Big Ten.
When the Nebraska football talk started, you could tell Saul was clueless at first.
I looked at my GF, who watches the show religiously with me, I said I bet he does his research on the Huskers and is able to converse and add to the conversation.
I thought the B&W was annoying, there really wasn't a need for it.
I assume "roll" is a pun (a good one) vs "role? Funny.
I had kind of forgotten about the cabbie until he showed up and how about casting Carol Burnett as the cabbie's mother that was great
I suddenly have had a craving for cinnamon rolls... lots of scenes made me think of Fargo.
Carol Burnett was the Grand Marshall for the 1998 Tournament of Roses parade. She was awesome then and now.
The security guard talk about Nebraska football was hilarious, but those were three plus nervous minutes.
Zamaan Cafe in the Colonnade Strip Mall on Eisenhower (near Briarwood) is highly recommended for Mediterranean Food. The manager is remarkably similar to Gustavo Fring right down to the impeccable service and shirt and tie. Anyone else go there?
Plus: all the Martinez and Bellini talk! Sportsball!
It's Pelini - a Bellini is a good but overpriced drink from Harry's American Bar in Venice.
I hate that I do this, but I unfortunately pay attention to dumb details when I watch a movie, tv show, commercial, etc. For example there's a scene in the movie Mobsters where a pack of smokes/lighter are on the car seat next to a guy, next shot they're gone, next shot they're back. Ugggh.
Last episode of Succession I thought Tom got to the last scene in the mansion way too fast. The siblings were in the van forever hatching their plan on the phone, etc., while Tom was still at the wedding reception talking to Greg. But somehow after the siblings had their 10-15 minute fight with Logan, Tom just happens to walk in at the very end. I hope to god he was sent a helicopter otherwise the timing will continue to bother me.
In this BCS there is no way in hell that cab driver was able to do all that shit prior to his slip in fall in 3 minutes. It would have taken him 30 seconds alone to break out of that box. But to run around making several laps stealing all that stuff in under 3 minutes, no fucking way.
Just gotta go with it
How can legend Carol Burnett's performance hardly be mentioned?
Because it was pretty insignificant
Too much Cornhuskers
Whether in Parks and Rec or Better Call Saul, Jerry is still a Grade-A dunce.
Tell me why after watching this episode I go to YouTube and the first recommended video was “2021: Michigan 32 Nebraska 29”
