Next coach better get rid of legends jerseys

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

It's a god damn disgrace that players are given numbers of the best players in UM history without doing ANYTHING to deserve them. It's a damn joke at this point.

Get rid of the legends jerseys and let guys make their own damn legacy.

Maybe I'm just tired of seeing Gardner wearing 98, but oh well. None of the other guys wearing them deserve them either.

As you say this, another drop by Funchess. Don't care if he was interfered with, still should have been a catch.

#1 my ass.

watch guys not make plays while wearing a jersey of a guy who only made plays.  I get that it happens every year, at almost every college.  But then don't make a big deal out of giving a guy a number.  Just give out a #5 each year, or a #2 each year...or never give out a #1 or a #2 or whatever.

To me, it's never had anything to do with how good or bad the players are playing.  It's flat-out unfair to them (IMO).  Let them make their own legacy with their own number!

Again... never liked the legends jersey idea from the get go.  Even if we were undefeated with 3 All Americans and a heisman candidate on either side of the ball, this was a crappy idea.

Are the players on Michigan sideline still laughing? If Hoke had any clue what the fuck he was doing, he would rip into anyone with a smile on our sideline. Except all he can do is clap like a dumb ass. What a disgrace and waste of time

This star system was the start  of the downfall of UM football.  Bo or any other decent coach would not have gone for it.  Terrible idea by Brandon.

The memories of Ford, Oosterbann, Harmon, and all the greats are being pissed on right now. Not just by the players wearing their jerseys, but by the whole team. Whoever comes in here next better rip the legends jerseys away from every player who dares to think they're worthy of wearing them. No one on this team is even remotely worthy.

Or if you're not always an ass, you had a good day off ass practice.

Maybe a player or two asked for these #'s.  Like Funchess for #1.  You cannot blame them for wanting that.  But please go take your machismo ignorance to another fanbase.  These are kids trying to play football and in most cases with the legacy jerseys, being assigned numbers they didn't ask for.

Who the hell are you to question any college kids worthiness for their jersey?

Any other receiver in UM history wearing the #1 jersey would make at least 1 of these catches that Funchess has dropped.  You have to be an athlete and make a play.  Spielman is right though, we've become a team of "almost's".

to rooting for a TD.   That's how pathetic we've become.  We need to fire Hoke and begin the healing process.  We've gotten progressively worse.  Our rivals mock us and laugh at us.

Should only happen at the end of the season, like before the OSU game.  And it should just be for "the game"... that way we can truly evaluate a "great player" prior to that game to see if he is worthy.

No way in hell that Funchess should be wearing "1" right now.  And as I type this, Devin Gardner commits another turnover.

Seriously.  We're not.  Our offense is led by a receiver. Our top receiver can't catch.  Our line is average at best.  Indiana and Perdue put up better fights against MSU.

Maryland got boat raced by Wisconsin today but I think they'll win at Michigan vs. this offense.

At this point, they should make everyone go out there with blank jerseys because they are all a deisgrace to anyone who has ever worn any number in th ehistory of UM football..

I have no problem with the legends jerseys (except that the patch is too big).  Just don't have guys switch jerseys so much in mid-career.

The big benefit of the legends jerseys is that we can honor players who played beyond the 1950s.  We stopped retiring numbers because we couldn't take any more out of circulation.  The legends jerseys solve this problem.

Gardner's having a crappy game, but that doesn't mean the jersey is the problem.  He's still a great overall representative of the school/program (graduated in three years, getting his master's in social work).  Having a bad game does not disgrace the jersey.  Being a bad person does.

I don't know...I think it is a great way to honor great players of years past. Much better than retiring a number, in my opinion. On the other hand, for those who believe it only works if the player today is equally as good as the original "legend," I get why they wouldn't like the concept.

U know what... I am tired of hearing this "who does or doesn't" deserve a number. Who gives a crap! It's a number. A number from a hundred years ago. Seriously?? We have bigger problems. Let's get out of the past people. No disrespect, but Bo and others are dead and gone. They are not coming back. We need to move on. Leave all that other stuff behind. This is the problem with the program. We want to go back to the way things used to be. Not gonna happen. A lot of players wear Jordan's and I have yet to see a player play like him. So no one should wear Jordan's? It's a number.. That's it.

Giving them Legends jerseys before they earn them has bred a sense of entitlement. These players haven't done ANYTHING to be worhy of wearing a Legends jersey. Let them wear their OWN jersey and earn their own legacy.

There is not one player on this team who deserves a legends jersey. No #1, no #2. I like Ryan but he is playing out of position. No one on that team is playing up to anything. Just a bad football team

I was on my way home from a soccer tournament and was thinking about this exact subject matter. I am fine with the players wearing the Legends jersey. But DAMN IT, earn the bleeping right to wear them. Gardner needs to give it back, as do the rest.

I don't care about a Jersey or Rawk music. I want to win games (within all NCAA rules). Period. The arrogance of anything else is the disease infecting Michigan.
