Team source: "people at Schembechler are freaking out right now." Says decision on potential postponement/new site should come Thursday.

Rain Saturday first half of the day, then they wait to see what happens Sunday with the hurricane.  It doesn't sound like they expect a lot Saturday night.

For the OP:  Why is this not good?  If there is any team and coaching staff that would thrive on the chaos of a last-minute relocation, it would be us.  Wasn't there an article written about Harbaugh on ESPN (too lazy too look, but I remember during the great CC of 2015 that it was circulated and made us all want Harbaugh even more) that specifically discussed that Harbaugh thrives on chaos?

Yes, i actually think it is good for the team.  If there was even the slighest chance that they would become complacent after BYU and not focus, it's gone.

BYU is old news now.  All the talk is about the unpredictable weather conditions and how we will handle it.  It has everyone's attention and focus.

I remember the recent quotes by the M players about not even knowing about media day, and about how Harbaugh likes to keep them guessing.  The article that I was talking about was before he became our coach.  Here it is:

For those who have not read it, and want even more reason to be hyped about our coach, it is a great read.

Persnally i think its in Michigan's best interest to play in as much rain as possible.  Manball wins out and guys like Likely are less likely to do a damn thing in mud/slop.

We don't really have any burners outside of Peppers.  It would make the game much easier to win for Michigan IMO.

I keep seeing this repeated but I dont get it. Can you explain why this is so? I would think that bad weather affects both team equally, so that the better team is still better. Things change if the better team is a pass-heavy team, but that's not even marginally the case here.

In good weather, turnover-prone teams will fumble, good teams won't. In bad weather, all bets are off.

The skill of not fumbling is neutralized if the ball is wet and slick and once the ball is out, skill is off the table; recovery is luck.

Plus, good teams tend to be able to hit big pass plays (though this has not been the case for UM this year...) and bad weather can negate that benefit.

So between increasing turnover and decreasing plays that require greater skill that only the better team can take advantage of, the negative effect of weather impacts the better team more than the worse team.

It doesn't matter what type of offense Michigan runs. The heavy wind/rain will turn it into a low scoring game where the probability of a clearly inferior Maryland team hanging around and making a play or two to win is much higher.

I'm driving from NYC, got covered mezzanine tickets with all you can eat food, and I'm bringing rain ponchos just in case. Please don't cancel or move this game. Please. I missed 2 games due to weather last year (Utah and Maryland) and already missed the UNLV game this year due to weather. UGH!

Bet it gets moved to an 11am or noon start on Saturday. Most models have slowed the storm down to a late Sunday or even Monday landfall, if it even makes landfall. Doesn't sound like they can avoid the rain this weekend no matter whwn they play, but they can at least avoid having maybe heavier rain, wind, flooding, by getting it done 8 hours earlier.

It appears that this hurricane will have little effect on the game. According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Joaquin will still be hundreds of miles out in the Atlantic southeast of South Carolina at game time.

Edit: Obviously it could affect the team's travel back to Michigan on Sunday.

It's not that simple. Residents will be evacuating the area all weekend and emergency personnell will be making storm preparations. Having a huge crowd of people come into town to fill a 50k seat football stadium would not be helpful.
