No it doesn't because it isn't related to the university. If the victim was a student, then yes it would be required to report. Title IX is being dismantled now though because it violates due process. The university has no power over off campus incidents. Again nothing here is illegal or done improperly besides Courtney Smith's family telling her not to press charges so she can continue to get money from him. Shelly Meyer encouraged her to press charges (all she can do) and told her to not worry about the money, that they would take care of her. I don't see how anyone could think she did something wrong here. As soon as she did press charges and then they could fire Smith and that is exactly what happened.

You’re not reading it my friend her being a student or employed by the University plays no part in this, because her abuser is a part of the university. Just like if an OSU football player assaults his girlfriend(even though she doesn’t attend OSU) and then tells Urban about it, he’s  obligated to let the University know.

If ohio state actually follows through and fires him, I will be genuinely impressed to the point I might not able to hate them with the same fervor.

Whether he gets fired or not, McMurphy did some UNBELIEVABLE investigative journalism here. Kudos for the report and to bring this shitstorm to the light

I'm legitimately amazed that they are taking this so seriously.  Not that it isn't worthy of it, but because OSU struck me as a place that would circle the wagons.

They don't want a shit storm right now like MSU. It's easier to attract a good coach to a top football program than having to save the the name of the university for not firing the head coach of a public university that receives money from the taxpayers of Ohio.

If allegations are true, I'd be stunned if he isn't fired in 2018. Maybe he gets a slap on the wrist and is suspended w/out pay for the year.

Did anyone see Trevor Matich on ESPN just now?  Wow.  He's talking about it and then said I think about my own experience.  He then related how his dad would get drunk and hit his mom and as  a 6 year old he couldn't even process it.  He then said we have to hear other sides.  But, if it's as bad as it seems then we can "get medieval."  Pretty powerful stuff and color me impressed.

Never thought it would get this far. They richly deserve whatever they get.

But I still don't think he'll be fired. They will take a giant laser and saw a hole out of central Ohio and orbit Columbus as its own moon before they allow anyone to touch Urban.

Lets not forget that the M.O. down there has been to make a non- official announcement of dismissal (to get media attention off), and then bring them back later on with just a short suspension, etc., once things have died down.

Putting out a tweet of susp. pending inv. instead of something coming from the AD/University is exactly what I would have expected.

Stay tuned for a future response of "we believe coach acted unethically after our investigation, but based on our contract with coach as written, we are unable to terminate his contract at this time, however we have taken action in cutting his salary to (insert lofty salary) and placed the entire staff on notice".

Nothing will come of this. This is still “Gene Smith” running the show who serves “at the pleasure of the coach”.

Putting Meyer on administrative leave is just window dressing.

Read the book about Aaron Hernandez, Meyer should've been banned from coaching for what he let him and Pouncey twins get away with at Florida.   However, sometimes good things happen to good people and Dirty Urban might be heading to the unemployment office!!!  How does one celebrate Christmas in August?  A Summer Shandy doesn't seem right.

Tressel and Dirty Urban back to back.  Woody is rolling over in his grave!!

One day your talking about chicken and former QBs being upset, the next day your talking about Meyer being potentially fired...

Ain't life grand!

Personally, I hope he is not gone.

If he leave and OSU tanks, the buckeye narrative will FOREVER be "you only caught up because Urban got canned, if we still had him, we would still be dominating Michigan.

Would rather he gets canned because M beat him 5 years in a row.

Do they care when we say: "we only lost because of the spot" or "we only lost because of Rich Rod and Hoke"? (spoiler: They do not").

Given the choice to beat him every year or have him fired, the choice is easy.

Given the choice to have a game against Urban Meyer and to recruit against Urban Meyer every year or have him fired, the choice is also very easy.

Either way, this opens up a great opportunity for Michigan to close the gap with them, especially because at the very least he will be suspended for a few games this season...but damn it would be nice if they had to plunge into the abyss and find out if Day is actually a good coach or the next Luke Fickell.

Some posters on 11 Warriors think this is a positive. Put him on leave, make it look everything is being done by the book, then bring Meyer back in about two weeks. I am more inclined to believe that than Meyer actually getting fired.

If he is canned it won’t cause the football program to implode. OSU will get a top-notch coach and the machine will continue to roll on...sadly.

Like it did after Lloyd Carr, Pete Carroll, or Mack Brown retired? I get it, they got Urban after Tressell, but sometimes you do the exact same thing and get Rich Rod (who would be a great fi... nah I won't even go there).

Couldn't happen to a better guy.  What you want to bet his wife says she never told him, she just forgot.  She will issue a tearful apology and he will be back riding a white horse in like nothing ever happened.

So if he does get fired and we win this year. Everyone will say we only won because Urban got fired. And that our last 2 wins against them came when they were in off field trouble. That narrative is going to be so fucking annoying because it totally ignores the fact that theres a reason their last 2 coaches have gotten in trouble for their conduct.

It feels kinda like this timing was set up perfectly to nail Meyer. there were those leaks right before media days. Knowing that Meyer would get asked about it and then lie his ass off. Only to have this ready to release to catch Meyer in all his bullshit.

Agree. McMurphy still has the pictures to release, texts with other wives and (he claims) more dirt on the situation. I don’t think OSU wants this to drag out with a weekly torching by this guy - especially when these two bombshells seem well coordinated.  Who knows what the angry ex and crafty reporter have on the program?
