It's official: UM vs MSU for ESPN College Gameday
Not surprising (other than it's Fox's game) given the other options. https://twitter.com/CollegeGameDay/status/1452682623244021773

Thank you, Penn State!
October 25th, 2021 at 3:29 PM ^
I think the thanks should go to Illinois.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:05 AM ^
Even if PSU would have won, I still think there would have been more interest in the UM-MSU game. Most people expect OSU to beat PSU - before and after the Illinois disaster. But with UM-MSU, we have 2 undefeated teams with the winner emerging as the most serious challenger in the B1G to OSU.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:16 PM ^
Oh Boy, I'm sure they will be most gracious of hosts
October 25th, 2021 at 1:46 PM ^
I wonder how ESPN's going to handle MSU trying to end Aidan Hutchinson's playing career while the refs swallow their whistles. Probably just ignore it and pretend it's a fair game?
Look, I realize I'm That Guy, but I absolutely hate playing STAEE. Nebraska and Purdue are cheap, but Michigan State is in the same flaming garbage pile as Wisconsin, Indiana, and Minnesota. It's not even about the rivalry to me anymore; they literally try to end players' careers and that shit is just so hard to watch, especially with the "anything goes" refs we've got these days. It's an entirely different kind of butt-clenching.
A clean victory would be ideal but there's never anything clean about Little Brother. I won't be happy, but I'll be happier if we escape this game with a loss and our roster intact than a victory that costs us several players. I don't even mean key positions that'll hurt us down the road; it'll suck plenty enough to watch them yanking one of our backups by the facemask. I like the sport of football, not the B1G giving impunity to unhinged violence.
October 25th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
ESPN isn't broadcasting the game, so I don't think you'll get your answer.
Also, I'm probably naive, but maybe Mel Tucker will run a cleaner program than Mark D.
October 25th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
It's weird when people let their personal feelings about a rivalry get the better of them, and they start honest-to-god believing that Regular People Whose Allegiance Is To a Different School are actually shitty, horrible people who are "literally trying to end players' careers."
Sir, get a grip on your runaway imagination, this is embarrassing. Literally nobody is trying to end anyone's career. Take deep breaths.
October 25th, 2021 at 4:26 PM ^
dragonchild here's a quick tip: if you see an MSU fan around the neighborhood — say, a Sparty window sticker on some soccer mom's SUV — and the sight has you reflexively seething with rage, you are the problematic person in that scenario.
October 25th, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
Coach Tucker seems like a class act, and I hope he encourages clean play, but here is a sample of dirty plays from the past...
October 26th, 2021 at 12:57 PM ^
I could roll out a longer "dirty plays" highlight reel of Taylor Lewan alone, it doesn't mean I go around thinking your coaches tell players to end people's careers.
October 25th, 2021 at 7:38 PM ^
That was peak Narduzzi, but there were plenty of remnants through the rest of Dantonio's tenure.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
Yes, and we do know who will be bringing Game Day's lunch....
October 25th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
Thanks. Now I want a square, and the closest Jet's is over 2k miles away.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
What options did they really have? They’ve done multiple Georgia games and PSU took the luster off the other big B1G East matchup with the loss to Illinois.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:23 PM ^
#10 Ole Miss @ #18 Auburn
Not as big of a game obviously, but it was on ESPN, is at 7pm, and they wouldn't have to deal with the logistics of fighting Big Noon at the same location.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:26 PM ^
I get it but this is clearly the game of the week. And arguably the biggest game of the season to date.
October 25th, 2021 at 2:27 PM ^
They passed on the previous game of the season No.4 Penn State at No. 3 Iowa just a few weeks ago. There’s always another option.
October 25th, 2021 at 2:03 PM ^
They are pretty blatant SEC and ABC/ESPN homers, but if they start dodging every single game that is covered by another network they will have zero credibility left.
This is not a tie-breaker situation, there is no other game to cover that is even close.
October 25th, 2021 at 2:06 PM ^
Given the primetime ABC matchup between PSU and OSU, they probably would have picked that game had PSU not lost.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
Noon game, students have to get to the stadium by 9 or 10am to get decent seats, fans at GameDay unable to drink (openly), maybe 20% Michigan fans in the crowd...
While I don't expect it to be a mild crowd since it's the biggest game for MSU in 5 or 6 years, this sets up for it to be about as sober of one as possible.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:35 PM ^
It is EL...
October 25th, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
You don't think the students will restart the Friday Night Drinking Thread at 8AM (or whatever time they climb out of their holes)?
October 25th, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
Honest question, has GameDay ever been to East Lansing?
October 25th, 2021 at 1:27 PM ^
Yes, they were there for a game against Wisconsin when Russell Wilson was QB
October 25th, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
This will be their 9th trip to East Lansing. Most recently, they were there in 2012 and 2014 for MSU vs. OSU, and in 2015 for MSU vs. Oregon
October 25th, 2021 at 1:46 PM ^
They've been there for UM-MSU before. They were definitely there in 99.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:22 PM ^
As will the folks from [redacted]sports.com. It's going to be crowded in EL and I'm excited to be there in person. Let's run it down their throat and take their will
October 25th, 2021 at 1:22 PM ^
The only other game with two ranked teams is 10 Mississippi @ 18 Auburn. Not nearly as compelling as Michigan @ msu.
This site actually predicts Gameday will be at Michigan@psu and osu@Michigan.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:38 PM ^
Michigan-PSU will have lost a lot of its luster by then. I doubt Penn State will be ranked after losing their third straight this weekend. I think Gameday is more likely to hit Oklahoma @ Baylor. Both teams are ranked and it's a good shot at an upset. Plus they have already hit Happy Valley this year.
If things go badly for us this weekend, Gameday might also prefer to go to Columbus for MSU-OSU and then a non-OSU game the following week (The Iron Bowl and Bedlam seem like the most likely other picks), although Ann Arbor still seems like the best choice.
October 25th, 2021 at 2:32 PM ^
I doubt they will be at Penn State for the Michigan game. They went there once already this year for the Auburn game, and have already double dipped with Athen, GA twice. I could see them going to Ole Miss or Wake that weekend instead. Maybe Baylor for the Oklahoma game.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
This was the only logical choice after Penn State vomited all over itself on Saturday.
Florida-Georgia does not have the same appeal it did this time a month ago now that Florida has lost three times. The only other ranked matchup that day is Ole Miss - Auburn and that game has no real national stakes involved. Their only other option would’ve been if there was a big FCS rivalry game or some top-5 matchup.
I’m sure Desmond will be greeted with tender loving care.

He should wear a helmet. And maybe a bullet proof vest.

Weird, could have swore I heard that Gameday was going to Jacksonville for Florida-Georgia. I mean, this makes more sense, since they've already been to Georgia twice (I'm still shocked they were in Athens twice in three weeks), and are pretty much a lock to do the Georgia-Bama SEC Championship Game. But thought I saw otherwise...
October 25th, 2021 at 1:48 PM ^
I think they would have been at PSU vs OSU if PSU hadn't lost.
October 25th, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
Probably right, but Frames Janklin was dicking around on the sidelines of the ILL game.

"We are comin' to your shitty!"
October 25th, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
Glad that Desmond is in the panel. Thank you to ESPN for ignoring the Fox game. Should be fun!

My dad is old school and hasn't gotten into podcasts or anything else (he was forced to get a smart phone finally when ATT shut off all pre-3g phones), so he listens to local sports talk radio exclusively.
He stated that the one Sparty Slappy on 97.1 said last week that Panasiuk is "as good of a college player as Hutchinson, and better than Rashan Gary ever was"
October 25th, 2021 at 4:19 PM ^
This comment sort of feels off-topic for the thread? Anyway, breaking news: radio call-in fans are mostly weirdos. More on that shocking story at 11.

He stated it was one of the hosts.
