Also, per Michigan's press release, she's DE Mike Morris' sister

Sort of sucks that she's getting sexualized after achieving a first for women.

That said, god bless whoever convinced women that wearing leggings was appropriate.  As I guy I used to frequently ask myself "What's she got going on under there?"  With leggings I never have to ask.   I wonder if women feel the same way about football pants.

For all of your crying about this...answer these questions for me.

  1. Who is Bolden-Morris replacing?
  2. Who were the last 3 GAs we had at Michigan (offense and defense)?
  3. Who would you have hired instead of Bolden-Morris?
  4. Who is currently the best GA QB coach in the country?
  5. Last, if she isn't qualified, what exactly are the qualifications for this position?

Thread-jacking for a moment because I haven't seen any recent posts from you.

You mentioned a few weeks ago that you had been trying to change your avatar---apparantly it's still not working, correct?  How long ago did you last try to replace your avatar?  I see you've been able to change your MGoUsername, though, so obviously that works.

I'll check back tomorrow to see if you have had a chance to respond.  Seth and the developers are continuing to track down bugs and are planning to do some fixes soon but I don't know if that's on their current list.

A background in football.

Okay, let's dig into that...

1. What background in football should someone have for this position that she doesn't have?

2. What are the job duties she will have that she will be unable to perform at an acceptable level (by your standards) due to your perception that she has a lack of "background" in football?

3. Are you familiar with transferable skills? (Hint: it's the same thing that allows a guy who has never coached defense to move from TEs to Ss without any major concerns. Also that same coach, may want to check his resume pre-GA position and see how it compares).

4. What exactly is a background in football? I watch countless hours of football and read UFRs, do I have a background in football? Do I have to play football? If I played in HS, but not college, do I have a "background in football?"

5. Is having a background in football the #1 job qualification for this position? If not, where does it rank if it is so important?

As quick google search for what are the duties of a college football graduate assistant produced this:

The Football Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruiting, scheduling, training, monitoring academic progress, promotions, fundraising and coaching team members.

None of these tasks require an individual have played football previously.  Athletic graduate assistants performs the same types of tasks as what is done in academia, except instead of supporting a professor, they support a coach or coaches.  So the only real prerequisite for being a graduate assistant on a football program is to perhaps aspiring to being a football coach yourself in the future.

I’m so excited about this. Harbaugh grew up as privileged as it gets in football as the son of a P5 position and G5 head coach, but he has spent his whole career providing opportunities for coaches without his connections.

lol....the very few times I have encountered one of these, I seriously have to question the involuntary part of that, because their attitudes, viewpoints, situations seem pretty self-selected to me. You just want to tell them, "well, of COURSE you're celibate....have you tried maybe not being an asshole?"

On the surface you are correct.

If you think Harbaugh does ANYTHING isn't a benefit to his team first and foremost, you are mistaken.  I doubt that even entered his mind.  If it were James Franklin I might be suspicious...

PS - It must suck to view everything through such a narrow lens.  (That goes for BOTH extremes of this argument fwiw.)

.

.

EDIT - Feel free to neg away... My apparently poorly worded point was that if one was ONLY focused on "what boxes were checked" then they would see what they choose to see.  I doubt Harbaugh gives any thought to such things; (nor should he) he is all about what is best for his team and doesn't give a crap what others think about it.  I am sure any candidate he hires was well qualified.

PPS - Should We be concerned that Monocle has a bag of dicks lying around?

What argument?

He didn't put forward a debate about her qualifications.  The comment directly implied that the only reason she was hired is her gender and race (2 woke boxes).   You think there are two sides to whether that kind of comment is appropriate?

That's curious. Having done no research, I know more than that she's a player's sister.

She's also a college athlete.

Jim Harbaugh, who apparently knows more about football and coaching than I do, assessed her qualifications and decided she'd make a strong addition to his staff.

To be fair to who?  BlueByYou? Let's hear BlueByYou explain why she is NOT qualified to be a GA.

An SI article is linked later in the thread.  It quotes Harbaugh as stating he was impressed with her "ideas for coaching" and how to improve the team.  She is a DI athlete and graduated with a master's degree in sports management from Georgetown.

Most other GA's qualifications are "they played football".

She sounds smart, highly motivated, competitive, from a football family, and has been a highly competitive athlete herself.  Also, the highly successful head coach was intrigued by her coaching ideas and potential to improve the team.

BlueByYou is getting negged because he is stating essentially that her only contribution is being a minority woman...   which is obviously complete horseshit.

to be fair in the sense that the OP seemed to emphasize the fact that she is a woman rather than her experience at being a GA of quarterbacks.

In essence, the emphasis of her gender is a bit of an insult to her abilities.

But there are too many on this board caught up with virtue signaling than actually taking a look at what she can add to the program.

How common is it, that a basketball player is brought in to assist in coaching a Power five college football program?  What would happen if JH brought in Grant Hill to coach quarterbacks?  His dad was a pro bowl football player.  People would be laughing their asses off at the hire.

No, it is not. It is a fact that she is a woman and that she is the first woman to hold a Power 5 football GA position. That is a big deal, just like it was a big deal when the first female became an assistant in the NFL or a referee in the NBA.

It in no way implies that she was hired solely, or even primarily, on the basis of her gender, or even de-emphasizes/insults her qualifications. The fact that she is a woman is being recognized, and rightfully so.

That said, the timing is also great, as this is Women's History Month and she just made history.
