Completely agree.  We punished ourselves way too hard back in the early 2000s.  Especially given the shitshow the NCAA has turned into, and the fact their inaction drove away the best coach we ever had.

Give 'em the middle finger.  Hang the banners.  Have the Fab Five at Midnight Madness and go get some Mickey D all americans.  Bring the swagger back.

Like it or not, Michigan Basketball broke the rules and got caught. The wins were vacated. The banners were taken down. It's long past time to move on, even if Juwan is the new head coach. With a little luck, he'll hang new ones and no one will think twice about the others that have been gone since November 2002.

So maybe don't hang the "Official Banners", but for goodness sakes hang something that honors The Fab Five.  It is a once in a lifetime event when a basketball team transcends sports and makes a huge impact into the culture itself.  The Fab Five was that.  Hell, just hang a banner that says "Home of the Fab Five".  Just something to acknowledge how amazing they are.  Yes, they did some bad thing for sure... no doubt...but everyone has.

It's not about what other programs did or didn't do, or what program did or didn't get punished.

Michigan broke the rules. Michigan imposed sanctions on itself (note: NOT the NCAA), which the NCAA agreed to, which included vacating all wins beginning with the 1992 National Semi-Final, and taking down the banners commemorating two Final Four appearances.

It all boils down to whether or not you actually believe in the kind of program John Beilein is handing Juwan Howard. Beilein did things the right way, and we lauded him for it. Why do we want to do anything to go back on that? Or act like it doesn't matter?

Literally no one cares in 2019.

The NCAA can kiss our collective asses. The games happened and the NCAA is on their way to becoming our FIFA. Hang the banners and let the holier than thou crowd bleat until the cows come home.

The Fab Five is back. Michigan Football has an edge to it now (MSU game stuff). LOVE it.

If the University is fine with having one of the players from the era RUNNING THE PROGRAM, then they should be fine with putting those banners back up.

I loved the Fab Five as a kid and still think it's questionable that Webber got nailed when his relationship with Martin went back to when he was in middle school (which should have made Martin a "family friend" per the NCAA)  . . . but I'm out of energy for this debate.

Michigan in their minds did the right thing at the time. Unfortunately for them they believed the NCAA would continue doing the right thing. We have countless evidence that the NCAA doesn’t care about rampant cheating.

Hang them back up ASAP!

Damn straight OP.

HANG THE BANNERS.

In a world where the NCAA doesnt care about the LSU HC being on tape offering "a damn good offer" or the Arizona HC paying players out of pocket and doesnt even wonder why Memphis is suddenly the destination spot for 5 star players why are we not displaying a reminder for what we accomplished back in the day?

HANG THE MOTHERFUCKING BANNERS HIGH!

Please tell me exactly what the heck you think that means?  Don't feed me any crap about holding ourselves to higher standards because if we did then we wouldn't have let the rule breaking go on as long as it did.  If this was football I would agree, but NCAA basketball is so corrupt it's just dumb to act like this stuff matters. There is nothing to lose in hanging the banners. There is zero integrity in the sport, the rest of the country laughs at anyone who claims they do it better or cleaner than anyone else. All you will hear in these conversations is everyone is dirty, no exceptions.

2019 sees Mary Sue's "day of great shame" as disgracefully snooty, out-of-touch white privilege that it was. Bando Calrissian probably still plays the audio file of it when he needs a pick-me-up.

The world passed you by, Bando. Again, that's a good thing.

You hire a firm because the coaches you seem to have wanted to hire don’t interview.  You guage their interest, figure out what their price/buyout is, and do some background work so that when you hire them without an interview something doesn’t come out about them six months later putting egg all over your face.  And it’s that work that is done by the firm, even if it ultimately doesn’t lead to a hire of any of said coaches.
