Smart still has the allure of winning four title rings while running Saban's defenses, so he's going to be able to bring in top guys, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Now if he goes and loses to Vanderbilt again next season, then their recruiting might not be quite as much on fire.

When you hear stories about Georgia grads who own local car dealerships or real estate developers going bankrupt then you might see their recruiting take a hit.

Yeah, I would think that getting into an argument with the parents of said talent more or less eliminates your ability to do what is a substantial part of your job as a college football assistant. He might as well have showed up with a bottle of wine, moved to the sofa, consumed the wine with no help from a glass, belched and then passed out on the sofa.
