Fall camp is here
With fall camp offically starting, you do you believe wins the following positions:
-Quarterback
-Center
-Right Tackle
-Both Cornerback spots
-Both Wide Reciever spots
it was submarined by the new regime.
I'm anxious to see who ends up in the final D line rotation.
Which player has returned to camp in the "best shape of his life"?
Speight
Kugler
Runyan
Hill/Washington (I think Washington v. D Long is one of the fierciest camp competitions)
Crawford/Black (with McDoom and DPJ getting a lot of involvement, obviously G Perry when he's back on the field full time)
Can't believe QB is really up for debate but here it goes:
QB - Speight. He has the experience. Peters doesn't. Don't care what kind of upside he has. You throw a kid in that has never played a single down of college ball against one of the better defenses in football, and they are going to absolutely tee off on him. Especially when we have nowhere close to a proven run game for a young, inexperienced QB to fall back on.
Center - Kugler will start the season, but I think Ruiz ends it. The fact that Kugler is a RS Senior and hasn't seen a real ounce of meaningful playing time doesn't leave me with much optimism for his remaining time here. But I hope he proves me wrong and finally lives up to his billing.
Right Tackle - I'd guess Runyan Jr. I'm sure a full offseason can only help JBB, but watching him get beat by a Rutgers DL last year didn't bode well for him.
CB - Hill and Long. Assuming Long is fully healthy
WR - Crawford and some combo between Black/DPJ. The second WR spot will be by committee until someone separates themselves. My guess for now is that Black will get more snaps than DPJ because of his size.
the only real fake news I read all summer.
The Dude is very happy their will be some 4 receiver sets this year and hopes we'll go 5 wide at times as well - late in the year in partcular.
QB: Speight - An all big 10 QB last year in his first full year starting under Harbaugh and everybody wants him replaced already lol. Lets see him grow and get better and build off of last season. Peters will get plenty of work in the blowouts this year.
C: Kugler - this is Kuglers last shot, and I think he showed in spring ball that he knows his back is against the wall. Day 1 starter will be him and Ruiz will be his backup, but honestly 1 or 2 bad games will put him on the bench so he shouldnt get too comfortable.
RT: ???? I guess I'll go with Runyon with Stueber being a close runner up. I honestly have no clue, but between JBB. Runyon, and the 3 freshman they all have their issues. I think Stueber is the most ready to jump in and play right now out of the freshman. But Runyon has been here and made and impression on the coaching staff in the spring. So i think he keeps the job up until day 1 and then we'll see how he does. This spot will probably be written in pencil all year
CBs: Hill and Long - As much that it sucks that they have both missed time over the last season and the spring they are still our 2 most talented corners right now. I think Washington really made a move in the spring to get his name in the conversation. So i can see him rotating in like jeremy clark did as a 3rd co starter on the outside. Hill probably slides down to the slot when we are in nickel and Washington would be on the outside with Long.
WRs: Crawford and DPJ- Crawford is a lock period. Tbh DPJ and Black will both play a lot. Black is currently penciled in as the starter but i think DPJ has a healthy summer and wins the "spot" back even though Black will play a ton.
Chuck Filiaga... Has everyone forgot about him? Yeah, he had some issues during the Army game in pass pro. But, if I remember correctly, he was moved to LT for that game after playing at RT his last season (the opposite seems more plausible, but I seem to remember this). Either way, he played the Army game at a position he hadn't played all year - and was thrown against the best. I'm not going to be overly concerned about some pass pro hangups in that situation.
Also, people seem to think that Crawford is a blue steel lock. Can someone please explain why? I get that he played well last year, in limited snaps. He made one really nice catch (against Indiana), and blocks well downfield. But did he show enough to make DPJ and Black slug it out against each other? I'm not sure he did that...
Lol i agree, everyone likes the "shiny new toys" freshaman and completely forgets about the sophmores. If they werent starters last year, they will autmatically get passed up by the new freshman.
Do they all spit hot fire?
YOU TOO CLOSE MON!
Will be multiple sets and formations, but for the poll.
QB - Speight - Incumbent starters hold onto their roles until otherwise the GAME performance dictates otherwise....
C - Kugler Starts the season, but Ruiz is in there before the Conference schedule starts because he gets reps in teh Cincy and Air Force games and just out performs Kugler.
RT - Ruyan starts and affords Red Shirts for the other Freshman
CB - Washington really made an impression, I think he takes one spot, Long and Hill fight it out for the 2nd, spot and I give it Hill. Long plays a ton as a true nickel.
WR - DJP and Black. Crawford appears to be a nice receiver, but the talent and abiity of DJP and Black are too much to deny. Won't matter much because there will be multiple plays with a 4 wide set so Crawford, Collins, McDoom, and Oliver all getting time.
Speight
Kugler
Runyan
Hill and Long
DPJ and Crawford with McDoom in the slot.
Speight
Kugler
JBB
Hill and Long
McDoom and Ways
Speight
Kugler
Runyan Jr
Washington/Hill
Crawford/DPJ
Quarterback - Speight
-Center - Kugler
-Right Tackle - JBB will surprise here I think
-Both Cornerback spots - Hill and K. Washington
-Both Wide Reciever spots - Crawford and Black, McDoom wins the slot
I think Kieth Washington was the best corner on the field in the spring game so I think he starts. But I think St. Juste makes the biggest leap from the spring and is the corner by the time we get to PSU moving hill to nickel. I don't think Long stays healthy. Not to jinx him but he seems like one of those guys to me.
I thought Long had a healthy high school career though? I don't recall reading about any injury issues, but I could be wrong.
...Keep your eye on Oliver Martin...
Speight
Kugler
Runyan
Hill & Long
Crawford/Black
Even if it was some kind of "nerf" football, kudos to the actress Maureen McCormick for standing in there and taking it right on the face with a smile. Didn't even flinch.
Proabaly required 40 takes, but she did it.
I'm sure that's not the only time she had a ball(s) to the face.
