Chris Webber accepts invitation to be honorary Michigan Football captain

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Just happened now on WTKA.

Harbaugh came on radio and offered CWebb the invitation and he immediately accepted. Webber's first appearance at a Michigan game in Ann Arbor since 1994.

A week or so after the infamous Michigan-MSU game in 2015, Chris Webber reached out to Blake O'Neill and consoled him. Chris said he wanted to be there for him after that play and the two became friends and exchanged phone numbers.

That story was shared on the radio.

Most of us have put it and kept it behind us.  It's been blown up disproportionately since C-Webb wasn't in the Fab Five doc, and if you think about it, he did and does work for a competing network.  I hope he and the rest of the guys make amends if that's what's needed, but none of us have the whole story.

Something tells me this was planned, and therefore partially staged, by both sides.

Seriously, though ... Who cares? CWebb was one of the best players to ever wear Maize & Blue. Time to bury the hatchet.

Wasn't so long ago, after all, that Harbaugh was also persona non grata in these parts for some ill-considered comments about U-M.

Get over yourself. He didn't wreck anything. Ed Martin was the adult in the situation...blame him. Better yet, blame the NCAA for having these ass-backward rules in the first place. Let it go. The program is better than ever. He was a kid that made a mistake. He's a great dude and representative for the university. Constantly doing charity work and keeping to himself. Once again...get over yourself. Snobby fans like yourself really need to get off your high horse.

Ed Martin was not the adult in the situation.  Mary Sue Coleman had that responsibility and she threw Steve Fisher, Chris Webber and Michigan basketball under the bus.  And when she was finished wrecking Michigan basketball she turned her attention to Michigan football.

Definitely would have been cleared ahead of time. Otherwise Harbaugh springing it on CWebb on live radio would have been extremely rude.

I remember the Fab Five, but wasn’t big into Michigan or basketball yet. As a result, my opinions aren’t that strong, but I’m glad they’ve found a way that works for CWebb to come back on campus.

C Webb is the absolute man and it will be great to see him back on campus. He better get a warm reception.

I won't lie, I am excited.  CWebb is one of my favorite players of all time.  I know it isn't rational knowing a lot of what happened, but it would be awesome to see him at the big house.

Great interview. C Webb did himself well by talking about M again.

He surely will be welcomed home if people listen to this interview.

Go Blue.

I wonder if Harbaugh would also invite all of the Michigan basketball players who never got to play for a postseason bid because of the sanctions he helped bring on their program, for which Webber has never shown any remorse whatsoever.

And I'll leave it at that.

Yup, can't blame C-Webb for the program crater. They could've recover nicely if they hired a good coach but they went out and got someone who is not qualified to be the head coach aka Brian Ellerbee. I don't blame Ellerbee for accepting the job because why wouldn't he? He never had a winning season at Loyola University at Maryland.

Tommy A was a nice guy who can never get over the hump into NCAA tourney. Recruited well but team never really mesh well.

Thank god they hired John Beilein because I shudder to think where the program is at without him.
