... it just takes investment into site infrastructure. For example, requiring a phone number verification step for creating an account and mapping that phone number to a 1:1 relationship so that if the user is banned, he/she would have to have a new phone number to create a new account. Doable, but a lot of work for a low-level troll like this.

Great, now that he's gone, my comments just look weird. And if it's one thing I hate, it's looking weird on MGoBlog. I have gone out of my way to nurture a pristine image on this blog...

Reminds me of an article in my high school newspaper regarding our state championship golf team:

Before sending his team out to the first tee, coach Holliwell inspired his men with the immortal speech: "Play well."

What he really said was...."PLAY BETTER OR ELSE THERE AIN'T NO DAMN MAYO ON THE SUBS!   YOU WILL HAVE ONLY MUSTARD AS A CONDIMENT.....AND I DON'T MEAN DIJONNAISE....I MEAN GOLDEN'S....NO...SCREW THAT....FRENCH'S....YOU...GET FRENCH'S!"

That damn game last night.....  great ending.   After the wonderful victory over Staee, this entire blog as all a-flutter with M being ranked and what seed M would get in March.

About 3 of us were more like "lets just win that damn game Monday and not have a letdown".  That first half was a major letdown.   Glad the coach and team were able to pull it together.  The first half was painful to watch, the second half was really fun to watch.   I love this team.

Problem is, Simpson is short and quick. His shortness makes it tougher for him to inbound, and his quickness makes it easier for him to get open to receive an inbounds pass. But if this keeps up, coach may have to do that or just sub him out in auto-foul situations.

problem is that I think it involves a lot of shot mechanics and not nerves.  It doesn't look like a quick fix, and it you start working too much on shot mechanics it could kind of make him think too much and take away from some of his other attributes which are purely instinctive.  It is a little bit of a bind.

Even somebody like Zak Irvin who had an unconventional jumper, he still had a controlled release and used his legs quite a bit.  Simpson does not look as though his shot has ever progressed past what you expect from a young high school player (or even middle school, really).  I don't know if I have ever seen a player at this level who has a shot that is more of a "throw" than he does.  He has made three pointers at a decent clip and to me that has seemed like a small miracle.

Well put.  His shot...is shit, plain and simple.  But he has somehoe shot at a 46% rate from 3 thus far.  Last night he was 0/3 so hopefully we're not seeing some regression to some mean.  SnarlingWolverine made comment to me last night that Z shot 71% last season from free throws.  He was 22/31.  THis year he is of course seeing much more volume from the stripe.  The last 2 games has seen him miss what, 6/8 FTs in crunch time?!  That is not good but may signal that something mental is going on late...but I'm with you, I think there is something more to the shot mechanics and it isn't just a mental thing.

Regarding mechanics. Yes, there is an ideal shooting motion. That said, there are many great players who have shot very well with horrible mechanics (Bird, Parish, Marion are a couple who immediately come to mind).

It's about repetaing a motion again and again (again better mechanics will yield a better chance of repetition, but it is not the only answer). When I see Simpson shoot, I see someone trying to aim the ball into the hoop. Not someone comfortably repeating his shot (no matter how ugly it is). Beilein is the master so I trust his ability to get him to shoot better over time, but my humble suggestion is to work on his pre-shot routine which will help with repetition and mental state.
