B10 centers avging 30 PPG vs Michigan

I actually like the strategy but you have to mix in more doubles and zone looks to not let people get so comfortable. Adjusts need to be made. And no this couldn't go in the game thread. Howard needs to figures this out.

Yeah I'm fine with doubling somewhat less than other teams but like you said we need to have more variation so that opponents can't prepare for one thing and go to it over and over, knowing in advance what they are going to get. Can't let them get that comfortable.

Fully expect our staff to find the right adjustments in time.

If a double-overtime win at home that relied on ridiculous shots to get it to the overtimes when the other team almost scored as many points in the 2nd half w/o their leading scorer as they scored in their entire previous game wasn’t enough to get Howard to stop this strategy, Idk why a loss will. And I wouldn’t really say that strategy “led to” the Purdue win. More like: That strategy “led to” Michigan almost losing in the first place.

Livers defense is missed just as much as his offense.  Michigan is very limited in what they can do without him.  Would help if someone other then Teske could play adequate defense down low.  Teams have figured out if you get him in foul trouble it's over for U of M.

No in-game adjustments at all against MN.  We got outcoached by an average coach in Pitino.  We'll struggle in conference if the staff can't avoid being predictable.

The ONLY reason you would eschew double teaming is that you're afraid giving up resources to double will allow 3 point shooters to make more efficient shots than lay up attempts by the big you're doubling

Minnesota shot 25% from 3 and Oturu had 30 points on 21 shot equivalents

THIS IS THE THIRD GAME THIS SEASON WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED

Beyond embarrassing, especially considering Juwan made an effort to hire "experienced" assistants, none of which know elementary math.

It isn't so much about being strong today as much as moving your feet and getting good position. Those he struggles at. I'll cut him so slack, since the rules have made it damn hard to play any real physical post defense anymore but yeah... He's getting lit up.

In the first half, Oturu scores 20 points while the rest of his team shot 4/16. Michigan could have had a 15+-point lead at halftime had Howard not been so fucking stubborn again. This loss is 100% on him.

Livers out. 3 starters from last year gone. These 4 players played last year against Minnesota in Crisler and should have lost last year's home game. Belein is gone. Enough with bringing up Belein.

What a shocker... michigan allows another center a career fucking high...

Looks like defense is officially optional under this new coaching staff

Teske is not a good enough defender to go 1 on 1. Maybe in the future we will have more athletic centers, but Oturo was averaging like 1.75 points per possession which is insane. Those are basically free points. Teske has had his chance and he is proving to be a liability.

We need to practice doubles and closing out quick.

Michigan's paint defense is horrible.  Teske gets zero help.  Several things that would help greatly is double teaming more often and making good attempts to draw charges.  Beilein used to emphasize the latter and it really helps.  We might be able to get away with this a lot of the time if we could shoot well from the outside.  But that ain't happening either.  Result:  continued losses.  We were luck to escape from the Purdue game with a win.  The coaches need to fix this, plus we need Livers back.

Austin Davis and Castleton can't stick with quick bigs. Castleton also gets muscled up a lot by the bulky dudes. That neither--especially Castleton--deliver much offensively is really the problem. Livers is truly missed. But this season doesn't stress me. The team gets WAY more talented by addition next season. I just want nice tournament runs to give Simpson the senior send-off he deserves.

Every single team we've played in conference has had a player set a career high. Unacceptable, make an adjustment, and play with a little pride. No doubt this is a beilein team seeing how they're manhandled in the paint every fucking game.

I’d lower your expectations on the incoming big men. Dickinson is very similar to Teske in style, size, and athleticism. He’s probably a bit farther ahead of Teske at the same stage, but he’s not going to come in and solve all of our issues as a freshman. He’s going to need at least 1 year of Sanderson before being a major contributor. And Todd’s game is more wing than big man.

Juwan thought he could bring his trash NBA defensive philosophy to college and win. He is getting cooked right now with no adjustments in site. Bad look from this staff. Trying to fit square peg in round hole with lack of athleticism

Does Castleton not have a mid range shot? I think that would be more effective for him right now as opposed to trying to make those 15 moves down low and either getting stripped or blocked.
