05/20/2018 - 2:17pm Couldn’t make a break

Couldn’t catch one. That’s how I would sum up those 2 losses. And, yes, striking out looking on a pitch that wasn’t too close to take, seems about right.

05/18/2018 - 4:04pm Not an expert

But the way I read that rule as ESPN showed it, those were both terrible calls. At contact, Peters had one foot on the ground right in the middle of the box.

05/17/2018 - 2:54pm Ha

This is my favorite so far. (I didn’t dislike it either)

05/12/2018 - 1:14am 5 runs

Where the first 6 batter reached without a single one of them earning their way on base. I have never seen anything quite like it. (I’m counting the check swing off the hands going for a HBP as not being earned).

05/12/2018 - 12:19am In the box

Bad call

05/07/2018 - 5:07pm Missed chances

My mom is from there (Cherry Valley for any locals who know that one). She got me to the HOF every year growing up, but refused to head home for induction week. Sigh.

05/05/2018 - 4:12pm Kovach

How does the producer not ensure that Kovach’s B1G POY season get included??

I know they could have included 2-3 more freshmen, but you have to include the woman coaching in the opposite dugout.

04/03/2018 - 4:53pm They were

Around 5/9 on good looks from 3. They took many more contested shots than UM did

04/03/2018 - 11:06am I counted

10-14 open/uncontested misses depending on what you count. So what’s that? 3/17?

04/03/2018 - 11:03am A lot of shots rolled around the rim

Could have had 4-5 more three point plays ( or at least 2 points with a missed foul shot). MAAR had one that o still don’t know how it didn’t go in.

04/03/2018 - 2:27am Random thoughts

Great team, great run.  That was fun...tonight, not so much.

Rewatched half of it to see if I felt differently.  Nope.  Thoughts

1) Z/X played great vs. Brunson.  Really frustrated him.  Didn't hear one mention of it on the broadcast.   (If they had called a couple of those elbows that Brunson threw, I would have liked it.)

2) From 11:00 left in the first half to the double technical (when I stopped watching), the refs were truly brutal.  It hurt.  It impacted the game.  After the rewatch, I don't feel any better

3) Z, Matthews, Poole, Livers and Robinson combined for 0-11 on uncontested 3's.  Make 4 of those (i.e. their season avg) and the game is tied with 10 minutes left.

4) We just missed ~4 'and 1s'.  And then went ~3/8 on the FTs .  That's another 6-8 points.

I'd say the team played well and shot poorly.  Getting good shots and missing them is a random part of basketball.

04/02/2018 - 10:28pm doesn't count

the 3 defensive fouls on him.

04/02/2018 - 10:27pm Divincenzo's highlights

terrible and one call on X

questionable and on on MAAR

travel on his assist

Come on, zebras

03/25/2018 - 4:16am Nice to meet you today!

It's fun to figure out who someone is just from a post on here.  Great first game for your daughter!!!

03/23/2018 - 12:13am That’s a 3 Millhouse night

One to go

03/18/2018 - 11:17pm After this weekend’s upsets

Let’s have next week go according to seed!

03/16/2018 - 1:01am Preview said meat grinder

And UM by 8. It was a meat grinder with UM by 14. No complaints here.

We got next!

03/14/2018 - 12:21am A true inspiration

On so many levels. RIP.

03/10/2018 - 2:19pm Next year

Brooks will be the backup and everyone will wonder what’s wrong with DeJulius

03/03/2018 - 6:53pm 1-3

Vs tournament teams since Jan 1. Good thing Bridges hit that shot.

03/01/2018 - 10:56pm Even so, he only got to 4

He was so excited to make the call after starting the count early, he did t care that he did t get to 5

03/01/2018 - 10:51pm 2nd half

Of the 6 fouls that put Iowa in the bonus,

3 were terrible calls

2 were 60-40 shouldn’t have been fouls

1 was legit.

One of the worst runs of bad calls I have seen

02/27/2018 - 1:29am Nate Mason honorable mention

...still rolling eyes about last year’s first team selection

02/25/2018 - 5:45pm I’m sorry

If coming back from 27 proves you are great, getting down by 27 (to a team playing without their senior PG) must prove something.

02/18/2018 - 3:39pm Post defense

The 3rd on Mo where Wesson grabbed his arm and dragged him around for 3 steps...then a foul on Mo

And the last one on MAAR where Tate pushed him in the face, then kept a hand extended in his chest...foul on MAAR.

We’re terrible. And Steratore was watching those intently if you watch the replays.

The last one on Mo giving Tate an and one was awful too.

But overall, just kind of bad both ways.

02/11/2018 - 6:38pm Preseason rank

MSU very consistently gets as far as their preseason rank. They underachieve in the regular season and get lower seeds, then go out at their preseason rank.

It’s odd, but true. Does that make MSU a bad regular season team or an amazing tourney team? Your call.

02/07/2018 - 11:30am Over 5 shots in the past 9 minutes

Ignoring that they had 8-10 FTs in that stretch with 1-2 TO. That’s not great defense, that’s hack everyone defense.

02/07/2018 - 2:37am And that charge

He never got within a foot of the defender. I guess he pushed the defender over with the ball? The ball was the only thing that touched the guy.

02/07/2018 - 2:35am That ppp goes up when

Just rewatched the last 12 minutes again for 2 reasons. One was the “5 shots in 9 minutes comment”. UM had a shot or foul shots on all but 1 possession during that stretch. Ie. Dumb analysis. If you end 6 possessions in 9 minutes with foul shots, you probably didn’t take many shots.

The second was to take an honest look at the officiating. that defensive ppp went up during that stretch because UM truly was called for 5 really bad fouls during that stretch giving NW about 6 extra points.

Truth is that UM outplayed NW for the final 12 minutes except for some bad fouls and poor foul shooting ( plus some bad overall shooting).

02/04/2018 - 11:02pm Could he have done it with 1 more chance?

That illegal contact on the other receiver getting drilled 20 yards downfield gets called every other play during the year.

Illegal contact, another throw to the end zone.

02/04/2018 - 10:58pm But another Hail Mary was deserved

That was a full on knock down on the other receiver about 20 yards downfield. 5 yards, throw it up again.

02/04/2018 - 3:52am Mo’s 3 second call

Was terrible, too. He was in the lane less than 2 seconds. So 2 of the 6 TOs were a joke.

..but not as bad as one on Haas today where he went back in the lane and was there less than a second when he was called.

Both calls were terrible where I think the ref got distracted and missed them fully leaving the lane and coming back in. First two 3-second calls I can remember in a while and both were really bad.

02/04/2018 - 3:38am Fr year at ND

He hadn’t gone to his first college class yet and had a terrible PI called against him that led to a 4th quarter TD for ND, which helped ND get a tie instead of the UM win. I have pulled for him ever since.

02/01/2018 - 10:07pm It wouldn’t be a game thread without

...that last play was a solid foul against Purdue. Jumped right into Thome.

01/25/2018 - 6:35pm West Coast 4:00 PM start like tonight?

Always. The only bad part is when something happens and you want to go to the Mgoblog game thread to see what everyone is saying.

...and always max out the recording time to plus 2 hours.

...also stinks when the previous game runs long and they start our game on another channel.

01/15/2018 - 8:27pm Poole and Rahk =

#3 PG? Someone went from starter to last guy on the bench

01/13/2018 - 2:42pm 3 cheers for JB

I guess getting Z instead of Winston isn’t looking as bad today.

01/13/2018 - 1:52pm Too many fouls

Need them to combine for 40 minutes and 8-9 fouls (minus the couple of minutes for Davis)

01/13/2018 - 1:32pm Announcers terrible

They have missed every key analysis of this game

01/13/2018 - 1:31pm Elbow by Jackson

To drob

01/10/2018 - 10:55am Last 4 possessions

1) Livers with layup, UM’s final points

2) DD called this one bad. Still ended up with Z getting a decent look from 15 feet

3) got exactly what they wanted. 2 man game with Mo and MAAR, MAAR got switched into a big and went 1 v 1.

4) No TO, 2 man with Mo and Matthews. Matthews got a step and went for it. Haarms played it well. He didn’t leave Mo until Matthews committed and he was still there and would have had the block

Michigan’s offense was fine down the stretch. Purdue’s defense was excellent. Same on the other end

01/10/2018 - 10:27am Toe/heel vs PSU

That was a new, made up on the spot rule in the last minute of a game.

(Foot touches pylon vs MSU was the worst, new rule made up on the spot call ever, but it wasn’t late and it didn’t change the outcome).

And, to be fair, the shot clock reset when Purdue knocked an inbounds pass oob, was a terrible call earlier last night. But, again, not in the last seconds.

01/10/2018 - 2:26am Addressed

In the presser. JB respected Purdue’s ability to take away primary options. He liked Matthews with the ball, both in the terrible overturn and the last second desperation

01/10/2018 - 12:48am And the last foul?

Using the football equivalent, Mo didn’t turn him at all. Won’t be called in that situation the next 100 times you see it.

If you want to get technical, Haas hooked Mo first. (Also wouldn’t ever get called, but if they were looking for the make up call that we deserved....)

01/10/2018 - 12:44am Let’s see

How those 3 refs call that play tomorrow night. 100,000 times in a row they have given that to the offense, and the next 100,000 they will, too.

Let’s go to replay and call traveling every time a guy shuffles his feet when catching a pass. It makes as much sense.

01/10/2018 - 12:38am You think the 2nd best player on your team

Having a 3rd team all B1G season is better than DRob? Good call.

01/10/2018 - 12:25am Horrendous

When you go to replay and see EXACTLY what you thought you saw. You don’t reverse the call.

I guess we will see if those 3 refs start giving that ball to the defense every time a ball gets stripped. They have called that play 100,000 times the same way. And tomorrow they will call it the same way. Tonight they got it wrong.

To preempt the common stupid comment that people make, Purdue didn’t make a single play in the last 2:30 to win the game either.

01/09/2018 - 10:34pm Hip checks

It’s been a few years since I have been mad about illegal screens (good job making it an emphasis), but Purdue is throwing hips out on most of these 3s

01/09/2018 - 6:43pm GR no doubt

Those other guys were great (I’d add Jim Jackson in there), but GR was a full notch better.

01/02/2018 - 2:36pm Last question

And JH’s answer to the last question is that UM knew the same thing about SC. At this point in the year, that is true of almost everyone. It’s about execution.
