Anyone make a case for leaving early?

Submitted by tigerd on January 1st, 2020 at 5:04 PM

Anybody see anyone make a strong case for leaving early? The newspapers were full of articles the past week about guys that were going to let things play out in the bowl game and then make their decisions. About the only candidate I saw that made a strong case was Ruiz. I though the offensive line play was exceptional. If Shea had any idea to step into the pocket they would have looked even better. Run blocking was great and there were times that Shea had all day to throw. Interested in what anybody else thinks.

If Jerry Jeudy is debating leaving early, ain’t a WR on the whole team that should even think about it. I don’t doubt they could get a job but they haven’t really shown they’re ready.

People downvote when you say we don’t have a single skill position player who would start at Alabama, but I still think it’s true.

The difference between their players and ours looked about as large as the difference between us and little bro.

I'm curious whether anyone would dispute this.

Watching Bama's receivers when they have the ball beyond ten yards from the LOS is a harrowing experience.

I was thinking the difference between their top end guys and ours was the biggest factor. Their WR > Ours. Their RB > Ours. But otherwise the meat of both teams was comparable. Our o line looked good. Our (decimated) d line looked solid. Our linebackers played well. Our non Jeudy assigned corners looked good in coverage.

QB and DB were advantages for them too.  They were step for step with our WRs all day and Jones put throws in perfect spots on deep balls that Shea just couldn't.

With the best version of Shea, we score near 40 today.  The number of deep balls he missed by a foot were all scores.  As were a couple guys wide open for TDs (3 by my count - Nico, DPJ and Nick).

If I were Nico or DPJ, witnessing Jeudy in person would be a wake up call.  He’s doing way more with his talents.  They need another year to aspire to that level. I also don’t think Uche should leave.  He got shut down today, and he didn’t have much of a game against osu, if I recall correctly.

Ruiz actually looked good. Him going seems less crazy.

Nico looked good too, but never got the chance to show much due to QB play.

Every eligible olinemen made a strong case. Outside of that... ehhh

Edit: Jordan Glasgow might have just moved into the later rounds with this game. After that bust on the first play in defense, he played a good game imo.

Ambry Thomas...Jones didn’t think twice about throwing to his side! Was also good in run support. Hope he stays, but if this game was to measure up...he looks the part!

None of our WRs did anything to justify leaving early.  They are leaving big $ on the table if they come out now.

Nico has the body, but is he really a difference maker?  Jeudy is what a difference maker looks like.

Uche made his case, but he's already announced.

If that's your bar, I don't know what to tell you, but he doesn't need to be a top-ten pick to justify leaving early for a multi-million-dollar contract.

I wouldn’t mind if one receiver takes off, we need to get sanristill and Jackson more touches next year along with henning. Hell if both leave I wouldn’t be mad, but personally I think both Collins and DPJ are vastly overrated

Multiple guys: Jeudy, Harris, McKinney, Smith, Wills.

I guess you meant for UM, then nope. However, we have some really solid underclassmen to build around going forward:  Hinton, McGrone, Hill, Mayfield, Charbonnet, Haskins, Jackson.

Ruiz maybe....Ambry maybe....Did I read somewhere on here that Nico played well? He did? DPJ nope. We have good players but if anyone came away saying our skill players are on par with theirs wasn’t paying attention.

There’s not a guy on this team good enough to leave early. Uche leaving early is laughable. The receivers leaving early (especially DPJ) are even more laughable. Ruiz... maybe? The rest of these guys all need to develop.

Where the heck they headed to get a jump in post football careers? Maybe DPJ started med school early?

I'm actually not kidding. If I was Nico and was asked about leaving early I’d say “to go where?”

Ruiz was discussed but on most draft boards isn’t listed in the top 10 at his position.

As I mentioned in the other threads I’m in the said of encouraging these guys to go make that money. They put their body in the line so if they can turn it into millions go baby go. But for this team I don’t see where any would go early.

I could see DPJ or Collins going pro.  Not because they did great in the game but because the offense is so poor at getting them the ball.  4 catches for Collins, only 1 jump ball even attempted, the rest overthrown, and DPJ only had 1 catch.  If they ask for NFL feedback, I would seriously look at going if they could be a 2nd round pick.

Nico looks good. We all want him back but i totally understand why he might go NFL.

DPJ doesn’t look ready and didn’t make any significant impact in most of our games this year.

agree that Ruiz can make a case.
