on the 4th player being investigated: "Great, we now have more rapists than wins."

EDIT: The name of the 4th player is out. I won't share it here, but if correct, the 4th player being investigated for sexual assault (i.e. the new case) was a player who had his scholarship pulled for legal issues and then reinstated by Dantonio as a "second chance" kind of thing. If this is true, I honestly cannot see Dantonio making it through this with his job.

Clearly everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but when there's this much smoke, there is usually fire. Sounds like a good ole case of lack of instituional control

This is a separate case, so if there is a fire, it's a different one from the original fire.

And this is not the same as "lack of institutional control." These are adults capable of making their own decisions and are not being encouraged to commit such acts by coaches or administrators.

That said, this does not speak well for the culture around the team right now.

It's tempting to pile on to Dantonio and/or Hollis for this, but we don't know enough about what happened and why and how it was dealt with to draw any conclusions.

Yet.

The time will come when the information will be out there and fair evaluation can be made.

I am making the argument that IF there is a fire, there exists a situation somewhat analogous to Baylor in which a culture exists that is ripe for these kind of fires to continue to erupt. That, plus the way that Dantonio seems to brush this off, signals the lack of instituional control to me.

But you are right, its too early to know, and perhaps too early to speculate.

It is a BIG leap from investigations of two incidents to a Baylor situation. Let's not minimize what happened at Baylor here: Multiple incidents, multiple years, sometimes the same guys more than once. Knowledge of those incidents on the staff, covered up and/or ignored, not reported. Pressure on victims. Knowledge going up the chain.

Simply put, we can't yet say that this is going on with MSU's football program. In fact, a member of the coaching staff has already been suspended pending investigation, possibly for not being fully forthright.

It's actually possible that Dantonio is handling this correctly.

It's also possible that things are much worse than we see. We gripe about the basketball program's skating on issues, and perhaps there is more there than we know. MSU is certainly under the microscope with the gymnastics scandal now, so stuff might bubble up. In two years you could be proven completely right.

But an investigation into a possible sexual assault doesn't make that case at all--the fact that we are hearing about it suggests the opposite, because this is something that isn't being covered up but rather addressed.

is readily evident because they also have the Nassar, Kathy Klaeges cases.

I realize Nassar has nothing to do with Dantonio but when viewed as a whole, multiple football assault allegations, Kathy Klaeges resigning and the Nassar case, the LOIC within the athletic department is not only glaring but disgustingly shameful.  They are rapidly approaching Baylor and Penn State levels of broken trust.

How Mark Hollis is still employed is a total mystery to me as he should already be gone due to the Nassar/Klaeges assault cases.  And if these football assault allegations turn out to be true both Hollis and Dantonio should be fired immediately.

You give a scholarship to a recruit that is under investigation for sexual assault while in HS, you better be sure he is not a predator and going to commit more in college. If this is the player rumored, and the charges are sustained then Dantonio should apologize to the alleged victim.

"Lack of institutional control" doesn't mean coaches/administrators are encouraging heinous acts. In time we may have a full evaluation, but a pattern of poor to awful behavior by MSU student athletes is emerging in a program that has ignored or excused more minor infractions in the past. Add in at least one employee/agent of the university involved in a coverup and it's fair to question the competency of those in charge.

Q: If you have a car containing a Michigan State Spartans wide receiver, a Michigan State Spartans linebacker, and a Michigan State Spartans defensive back, who is driving the car?

A: The cop.
