2024 Depth Chart

Submitted by GoBlue C4 on January 15th, 2024 at 5:44 PM

A lot of the leaders of the 2023 NATIONAL CHAMPS are headed to the nfl. Is 2024 going to be a reload or a rebuild, let's take a look-

Offense-

QB-

1. Transfer ( w an Orgi package)

2. Orgi

3. Davis

RB-

1. Edwards

2. Mullings

3. Hall

4. Marshall

WR1-

1. Morris

2. Moore

3. Goodwin

WR2-

1. English

2. Morgan

3. O' Leary

Slot-

1. Morgan

2. Stewart

TE-

1. Loveland

2. Klein

3. Bredeson

LT-

1. Hinton

2. Persi

LG-

1. EL- Hadi

2. Anderson

C-

1. Crippen

2. Anderson

3. Herring

RG-

1. Priebe

2. Anderson

RT-

1. Gentry

2. Persi

Thoughts-

1. QB is a trouble spot. If the coaches had full faith in Orgi, they would have played him more in garbage time, and given him some throws in games. I think the 2025 battle between Orgi and Davis will be a great one, and the QB position will be back on track. To me Michigan needs a transfer here.

2. OL has 4 Srs starting, and 3 top 100 recruits. Loaded!

3. RB and TE is loaded! Edwards and Loveland are the top 2 offensive players returning to the team.

4. WR is better than most people think. Morris and English were both top 150 recruits, Morgan has the it factor, and can be electric.

Overall, I like this offense a lot! They just need an efficient QB. Play run first, play action to Loveland and play complementary football and win a lot of games!

Defense -

Rush end-

1. Stewart

2. Guy

Strong end-

1. Moore

2. Baxter

DT-

1. Graham

2. Benny

3. Etta

NT-

1. Grant

2. Graham

3. Pierce

MLB-

1. Housmann

2. Rolder

WLB-

1. Barnham

2. Hood

Nickel -

1. McBurrows

2. Berry

SS -

1. Sabb

2. Johnson

FS-

1. Moore

2. Berry / Hillman

CB1-

1. Johnson

2. Hill

CB 2-

1. Transfer

2. Waller

Thoughts -

LOADED!!! National championship, #1 defense in the country, LOADED!

Best players-

1. Will Johnson

2. Mason Graham

3. Rod Moore

4. Kenny Grant

5. Derrick Moore

6. Josiah Stewart

7. Keon Sabb

8. Housmann / Barnham

Overall -

If Michigan gets a QB, they win 10-11 games again, and make the 12 team playoff.

If the coaches had full faith in Orgi, they would have played him more in garbage time, and given him some throws in games.

I disagree with this if only because this staff has been notorious for not putting anything on tape if they absolutely do not have to.

Not saying Orji is gonna be a stud, but the fact that they didn't let him throw does not mean they didn't trust him to.

And it's very possible that he progressed over the course of the season and just didn't have any garbage time in our final 5-6 games for him to showcase it.

I 100% agree with OP, bad spelling aside

Orji was like 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. That alone tells you quite a lot

He was behind Tuttle and Denegal, and potentially Warren, although injuries muddied the picture a bit

Yeah, they had a special package for him, but because of his running ability, not his throwing ability

And to be fair, Alabama just made it to the CFP semi with a QB who can't really throw.  Orji, even if he is a bit of a liability in the passing game, could theoretically keep the team afloat.  I would prefer a dual threat weapon with accuracy issues and happy feet than a very "mid" game manager, who can make some of the easier throws more consistently but not a whole lot more.  That said, I still think we grab a portal guy too.

Orji and Milroe are the same size and both freak athletes but that is where the comparisons end.

Milroe was a high 4 star just outside the top 100. Orji was a low 3 star and the 50th ranked QB in the class.

While he does have a strong arm, as someone pointed out in another thread, his mechanics are awful.  That is a really hard thing to change.

These depth charts don’t mean anything right now. If Harbaugh leaves, the entire team im sure will re-evaluate their options. So let’s just save these posts until we figure out who our coach will be

Isn't it spelled Orji? Next year's team looks excellent, but the schedule daunting. If they get through with only one or two losses, it will be extremely impressive.

No Makari Paige?  Has he indicated one way or the other?  I've been taking no news as good news since he would have to declare for the draft by today.

EDIT: Paige is back, per the thread above this one.

Not trying to be rude, but this isn't a great post: Misspelling Orji and Hausmann, forgetting Kechaun Bennett exists (and putting a true freshman project over him and the more college ready Nichols), having players in wrong positions (Etta is a strong end last we heard), etc. Appreciate the effort, just think some more proofreading is needed going forward

I really would rather not pair the defense we are going to field next year with a true freshman QB.  I'm guessing either Denegal or Orji look like The Man after spring ball or we find a one-off transfer to come in and game manage the offense.  Either of those gets us to 10-2 and into the playoff.

The true freshman route probably ends at 8-4, give or take a game.

1. Orji / Tuttle

2. Denegal

3. Jayden Davis

4. Davis Warren

I would love to see Tulia Tongaviola come in and compete. Harbaugh can get him to not turn the ball over for sure

Orji is obviously a huge unknown.  I think most are fascinated by the size and athleticism,  but unless you've seen practice we have no idea about his accuracy or ability to read coverages. With the defense M will have returning, avoiding crucial turnovers will probably lead to a successful season.

Can we stop acting like Denegal isn’t on the roster. Everybody just skips over him. He was ranked in the in the same range as Orji and has actually thrown more passes than Orji too for the we haven’t seen Orji throw people.

I can't take any depth chart seriously that puts Orji as QB1 -- didn't the only pass he's thrown in a game situation come in our spring game? -- and completely ignores Denegal. Tuttle and Denegal were the only QBs that looked the part this season. For my money, I really hope Tuttle gets his waiver.

Assuming Harbaugh stays, he will not start a true freshman. Assuming Harbaugh stays, he will not be running the QB much. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that again. If Harbaugh stays it will be Denegal or a transfer at QB, with Orji as a gadget player.

Now if Harbaugh leaves, anything could happen.

[EDITED: OK, the Denegal stuff has been covered....I didn't read comments before I posted.]
