Harbaugh reaction/Late afternoon Overflow Thread

Other thread's getting a little cluttered. On the plus side, it's Friday and drinking sounds much more appealing than getting dong-punched.
Within the realm of reality, where do we go next?

I would like to see other coaches at Michigan other than Brady Hoke.  But, if he does become Michigan’s next head coach, we as a fan base must support him.  We can’t go through another coaching term with half the fans and alumni not in full support of our coach.  Wr should try to do anything to help our coach succeed.

You know, there's 1-way tickets to Bolivia leaving tomorrow for under 1500. I wonder if we can convince Rosenberg that RR's taken a head coaching job with a soccer team down there and have him leave us forever...

Can I help out here?  Do you suppose that Rosenberg didn't want to bring down the entire program; but that he did want to bring down Rodriguez for the expressed, intended purpose to clear the space for Jim Harbaugh?  For a long time the unproven, working assumption was that Rosenberg was just angry that he no longer enjoyed privileged access to Michigan coaches, who all had a history of cozy relationships with Free Press columnists, going back to Bo and Mitch Albom.  But isn't it a much simpler assumption, that Rosenberg wanted Rodriguez out, for the purpose of putting Harbaugh in?

The Rosenberg love-letters to Harbaugh --

Rosenberg certainly didn't want to oust Rodriguez because he thought ill of Michigan losses in the Big Ten and in a bowl game.  Rosenberg started his Jihad in the early part of 2009, before Tate Forcier and 5-7.  Rosenberg didn't care what sort of performance Rodriguez gave; Rosenberg didn't know then what 2009 and 2010 would hold.  It wasn't about what kind of coach Rich Rodriguez was, for Rosenberg.  It was something else.  I can only presume that it was Harbaugh.

Obviously, if RR gets his papers at today's meeting, that means DB already has his man. (It had better mean that -- otherwise DB is Bill Martin with better hair). It also means that DB had indeed been waiting on Harbaugh.

Lynn Henning, Detroit News, 11.26.10:

If [Brandon] does opt for a new coach, Harbaugh is by far his best choice to do everything the Wolverines are obliged to do — in a hurry.

I believe he would leave Stanford for Michigan in a heartbeat. He grew up there when his dad was on Schembechler's staff. He played quarterback for Schembechler and took the Wolverines to a Rose Bowl.

He wants to coach again in this conference, absolutely. He deeply wanted to be considered for the Michigan State job four years ago before Mark Dantonio was hired.

He would hit Ann Arbor like an intercontinental missile and provide as much turnaround energy as any coach in the land could bring. And if you doubt it for a moment, you don't know Harbaugh, or the job he has done at Stanford.

Those who say Harbaugh is more likely to opt for an NFL job are forgetting his Michigan ties. They also are underestimating his football savvy.

Harbaugh understands that a college coach is his own personnel director. He has control over his talent. He recruits his roster, with little interference from above.

In the NFL, you must answer to a general manager, or bow to differences with a personnel guru. Harbaugh is too good, too smart, to put up with conflict there, a lesson Nick Saban learned during his brief and regrettable time in the NFL.

The Wolverines are Harbaugh's dream job. He knows what can be achieved. Almost instantly.

So, too, in all likelihood, does Brandon, who didn't take the job at Michigan to accommodate football as it's now being played in Ann Arbor.

before the whole coaching search, I was thinking, "Really, people?  Dude's an A-hole.  Just ask Mike Hart."  Then, after canning Rodriguez (wrong decision), it seems like everyone got on the Harbaugh bandwagon.  I must admit that I joined, as it would have definitely been the best hire to "unite the fanbase".

With this new news comes a bit of a positive, because I kinda liked disliking him.  I usually have zero vitriol for any M alums, but I think i can make an exception.

Screw you, Harbaugh.  Screw You.  Mike Hart was right.

wishing in hindsight that we DIDN"T make a bowl game this year?  If RR was gonna be fired anyway as he was, at least the evaluation would have commenced immediately after the OSU debacle, and we would have a coach now.

Not like the bowl game was enjoyable anyway.  Ironic that the bowl game we all wished for ends up working against us in the long run.  Story of the last four years around here, I guess.

We need you. Hell, I need you. I'm a mess without you. I miss you so damn much. I miss being with you, I miss being near you. I miss your laugh. I miss your scent; I miss your musk. When this all gets sorted out, I think you and me should get an apartment together!

We get too hung up on the flavor of the week (I am also guilty).

All one has to do is look at all the very successful football teams out there that aren't Michigan to know that there aren't just a few good coaches in the various leagues.

I'm hearing too much from B1G and UM about "the brand." Chevy is a great brand. Biggest branding and ad budget in the US. Advertising drives that brand.

But I'd still rather drive a BMW. Quality drives that one.

I am so....over this whole thing!  This is whole mess is circling the drain to the point where they will have to "settle" for a coach, that is, in my opinion, underwhelming.  Doesn't make him a bad guy, and doesn't make him likely to fail....just underwhelming on the surface!

As a human being trying to function in a complicated world, this is nothing to me. I got serious shit in the day-to-day to contend with.

As a lifelong Michigan fan who has long looked forward to Harbaugh coming home and leading us, this is devastating. Who should the next coach be? I don't give a damn. Brandon's call. I'll be there and I'll be supportive and presumably U of M rises from this shitpile like a mutant Phoenix. I don't see anything unattractive about the job with the exception of the climate and perhaps economic flight from the state. Somebody worthwhile with take it. But one of the main things I've been waiting for just ended in a big Fuck You.

Look, Harbaugh not coming here certainly is painful.  It would have been amazing having a Michigan Alum and former NFL quarterback as our head coach. It didnt happen, oh well, lets move on.

Having Harbaugh as an NFL head coach should be capitalized on by the Athletic Department. DB needs to ensure that he continues to have a relationship with Harbaugh and use Harbaugh's fame and success for recruiting purposes.  Who knows, maybe they can get Harbaguh to do a coaching clinic in AA or something like that.
