Denard - "No Response" as to whether he comes back next year if RR does not.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Angelique tweeted the same thing about 40 minutes ago. Sure would suck to lose him and Mallett over the course of a few years.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
I hear what you're saying, but I feel different about Denard than Mallett. Mallett is a very talented young man who was understandably concerned first and foremost about his professional future. He made the right decision for him and good for him. Denard, on the other hand, is a really special college talent. Maybe it will translate to a pro career, but it is not as obvious as in Mallett's case. But he is such as classy, likable young man that you want him to do well at your school. It's more personal for me with Denard because I like him so darned much as a player and a person.

And on a more practical level, while RR had never had a QB like Mallett before, with no mobility, Harbaugh has coached a dual-threat QB before - Josh Johnson - and developed him into an NFL player.
January 2nd, 2011 at 11:43 AM ^
And I would fully support him in doing so. A once-in-a-generation talent like Denard shouldn't be forced to play for a coach who will waste his abilities.
January 2nd, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
coaching career.
I think he'd use Denard to the best of his ability.
January 2nd, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
Jim Harbaugh has sent Josh Johnson to the NFL (from a D-II school, no less) and will do likewise with Andrew Luck. Who's to say he couldn't develop Denard into a pro QB, too?

time to think and recover. He is due that.

My New Years Day just keeps getting better.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Expect him to say anything else.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
Eh, I think he has very right to keep to himself on a question like that. There's no reason to read anything into it.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
I'm getting drunk tonight real drunk.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
getting?! I have been since the second quarter!!
January 1st, 2011 at 5:57 PM ^
Yea, I need to get on that level. I'm half numb about today and half finding myself say "rabble rabble". It sucks.
Gonna be a long offseason, but I'll still be looking forward to 2011 each and every day.

Washington State or worse?
So that leaves...New Mexico State? Haha.
January 1st, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
Yea, I'm drinking Yuengling and Magic Hat #9. Probably should have switched to something stronger after about the first quarter though.
January 1st, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
I went way beyond mere "drunk" late in the first half.

Even if he goes somewhere else, I think I'll still cheer for him.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
Every Michigan fan would unless we face him. Denard embodies everything Michigan should be about
January 1st, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
if denard went somewhere else and played against us, i would still cheer for him. i would silently shed a single tear every time he runs for 20 yards or every time he pulls up to hit his version of roy roundtree but then i would smile because i love me some denard
January 1st, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
I completely agree with this. And if he were to leave, he has earned the right to do so with every M fan's blessing. The kid has special talent and ought to be able to do what is best for him if he thinks this is not the best place for his future. Of course I hope he chooses to stay. He is an an amazing athlete and the kind of young man you want representing your school.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
what did you want him to say? yes il stay if he goes? no he should support his coach till some news is official
January 1st, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
He wont be if RR is gone. It'll be Mallet all over again. Y stick around for transition years where all he would be is a slot reciever when we have a bizillion of them!! My god is was the FIRST PLAYER IN HISTORY for 1500/1500...and now you want him not to?? I'd be going to second tier Div I and blow away the compition!!
January 1st, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
blow away the competition just like you've blown away the english language.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
Gotta love drunk bloggin....
January 1st, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
If you buy all the BS flung around about any coach playing Denard anywhere besides QB, you need to drink some smart-juice.
January 1st, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
If he stays he'd be the quarterback no matter who the coach is or what the offensive scheme is.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
I hope Martin stays, but I'm afraid he will leave too when some new coach comes in and trys to turn him into a safety.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
fullback.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
He'll be back.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
January 1st, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
The kid just finished playing a game. He's not going to say anything else.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
Don't forget that Mallet was also motivated on the other side -- he wanted to be at Arkansas all along. Denard has been true blue from day one. I think a new coach would have a very decent shot at selling Denard, whereas I don't think Mallett even gave Rich Rod a chance.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
Those who stay.......
January 1st, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
will happen. anyone thinking this means he is gone is reading way too much into it. For all he knows, charlie weis could be the coach. For another, he might think its bad to talk as if his coach is being fired when it might not happen.
Heavens to betsie, I really, REALLY don't understand the whole "new coach= no more denard meme".
January 1st, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
how could he respond not knowing who the replacement would or how they'd plan to use him?
January 1st, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
Obviously, he wants RR to stay and the answer depends on how much new coach (if there even is one) wants Denard. New coach (if there is one) may love Denard or may encourage him to transfer. Who knows.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
I think Denard would listen to the new coach and see where he fits before he leaves. I am of the opinion Harbuagh will use him if he comes here, mostly because he doesn't have anyone who fits his perceieved offense. Even if he snuck one into the class it would be a true sophomore.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
I got panicked over this for about a minute, but that's the appropriate response. It's a fair question but it can't be easy to give 'what if' type responses right now.
January 1st, 2011 at 5:53 PM ^
I might have been tempted to answer the question, "Go F... yourself.", The man is all class.
January 1st, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
I have complete faith in DG if Denard doesn't come back. I think he will be a better passer anyway.
January 1st, 2011 at 6:08 PM ^
wow... imagine of both denard AND tate transfer... scary.

January 1st, 2011 at 6:11 PM ^
I dont think Tate has a strong connection to RR. Assuming he can recover academically, I think he would be the starter next year if Denard transfers. I think it is a big if as to whether Denard will transfer. It really depends on how he would fit in next year. Many coaches tailor their system to what they have in terms of talent.
