Three big things came out from todays W
1. We're going to a BOWL GAME!!!
2. A much needed confidence boost for our team and a good nights sleep for RR
3. Roy Roundtree pulled in 246 yards today! Not only did he set a Michigan record but probably opened DeAnthony Arnett's eyes to how WR's can be massively successful in our offense too

hopefully the recruits at the game enjoyed the game
November 6th, 2010 at 4:42 PM ^
Yea I bet those Dr. Phillips boys are wishing they had made it up
November 6th, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
Well, it was 30-something degrees so maybe they're not entirely unhappy that they stayed in Florida. But it would have been an exciting game for a visit.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:57 PM ^
Good chance it's colder in two weeks.

Desmond Morgan commits to UM
November 6th, 2010 at 4:42 PM ^
As for point #3, Arnett not only saw Roundtree have a huge game, but also major contributions from Hemingway and Stonum. I can't imagine there being a better game for him to see in person than today's game.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
...the overall recruiting implications cannot be understated.
It will be harder for teams to negatively recruit against M now and b) if you are an offensive talent how could you not want to play in that scheme? (Thanks Roy Roundtree)
November 6th, 2010 at 7:19 PM ^
how could you not want to play D for a team that can put up 65+ on a good defense?
November 6th, 2010 at 4:42 PM ^
Unreal day for Roy. He dropped a few and the QB's missed him a few times when he had a step too. Not a bad day when you destroy the program receiving record for a single game and still leave yards on the field. And you're only a sophomore. And so is the quarterback.
Schwing!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
I would assume it must have been a pretty fun game for the boys from Phillips to watch on TV. Hopefeully thay are pissed they did not jump on an early flight to make it here.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:45 PM ^
4. A much more positive week for Mgoboard action.
Instead of OH MY JESUS FIRE EVERYONE we'll get some threads about bowl games, positive contributions from the youngsters, etc...
GO BLUE!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
Definitely a lot of material from this game to talk about this week...both good and bad...but mostly good!!!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
Another week of ongoing discussion of "regression" on defense, how the offense "isn't ready for the Big Ten" or the dozens of posts about one J. Harbaugh would have driven me to drink (more).
November 6th, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
I'll actually leave Mgoblog happier during my work breaks for the next week
November 6th, 2010 at 4:46 PM ^
Does anyone remember the gadget kick return play? That was pretty awesome, and yet feels like it happened so long ago.
What a game! I'm drunk!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:54 PM ^
Didn't that happen last week? Or was that the first half?
November 6th, 2010 at 5:14 PM ^
Got us good field position, led to the field goal, and the margin of victory. There were a number of things today I thought RichRod got wrong, but he definitely got that one right. Great call!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
made a strong case for the #1 jersey today. Keep improving offense. I want us to outscore Oregon in Pasadena on January 1, 2012
But first: victory number 7 next week. GO BLUE!

Bowl game should count as 5 or 6 things in and of itself!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
Four big things. I think it's just like I said last week: Winning will engender winning. It's a big load off the players' shoulders.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:51 PM ^
between last year and this year, is that the team will not give up. Last year we lost games like this when we took the lead, only to lose it late in the game. Today, they never gave up.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:55 PM ^
Roundtree getting tackled inside the five, and on a different drive getting stuffed on 1st and 2nd and goal had me nervous - gave me brief flashbacks to last year. Give the kids credit, they punched it in (7 of 7 in the red zone = awesome!). Tate also looked much better than his last OT appearance. Fun to see them grow up from last year.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
Tate really proved he is the best backup QB in the country
We also desperately need a kicker
November 6th, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
A wide-out could win the Heisman in this offense. Coach Rod doesn't just want to run.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
One bad thing to come of this game.. I now have very little chance of getting anything done, as I will be on this board reading every single comment and glowing from such a program changing win. No I don't think that is a reach. So proud of those kids!
November 6th, 2010 at 5:03 PM ^
By my rough count, Smith/Shaw/Hopkins combined for 163 yards and 4 TD's on 27 carries. Best day in a while for that group when the team really needed it (Denard had his worst rushing game of the season).
November 6th, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
They were hitting the holes hard and making a ton of second effort yards.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:09 PM ^
I'll admit, I was really down on RR after last week and didn't think this game would be even close.
This was the best possible thing that could have happened--an exciting win to get to a bowl. I had doubts about RR's big-time coaching ability, but this game answered a lot of those questions given the fact that we never blinked and kept fighting.
My skepticism is not totally answered (Wiscy and OSU coming up), but I'll swallow my words from last week if it results in a Michigan win.
Go Blue!
November 6th, 2010 at 5:10 PM ^
Yeah, I know they gave up a ton of yards and they allowed 65 points, but they did force some 3 and outs, Demens was a beast. Martin played hurt and gave his all and when the whole game was on the line, they got the stop.
Also, I'm glad Tate didn't transfer after the first game as good as Devin will be, I don't think he could have led that comeback and OT. Tate made some mistakes and that tipped TD almost killed me, but he showed a lot of poise in a difficult situation today.
November 6th, 2010 at 6:08 PM ^
Vinopal looked good in run defense. Especially with 250 pounds coming straight at him.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:13 PM ^
The offensive recruits had to be salivating today.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:13 PM ^
First win in November since 2008 against Minnesota.

Is that RR's offense even versus one of the best defensive teams in the Big Ten can quite frankly score on anyone, at any time. Now for the negative, I do not know how often an athletic director is on the sideline but Dave Brandon was in the thick of it today. That being said, I believe RR will still be given the ultimateum that the defensive staff will be fired and replaced by a Defensive Coordinator who will be given more or less complete control of that side of the ball. There were times during this game, regardless of the talent we have that I thought a High School team could put 21 points up on this team. Glad to see we blitzed on the final 2 point conversion, because there were countless times during the game we should have blitzed and brought 3 guys, that doesn't cut it regardless of talent. Go Blue, Big WIn, 7 and 5 looks real possible, and maybe with a good bounce or two Wisconsin could be beatable at home for that magic 8 win season which is above and beyond all we could hope for given the injuries, youth, etc.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
If Brandon is going to keep RR, he better be willing to break the piggy bank for a top-notch DC. Knowing that, the prospect of allowing a DC complete control can be pretty enticing.
November 6th, 2010 at 6:39 PM ^
I'm pretty sure Brandon is going to be perfectly fine with paying top dollar for a DC who will essentially function as a defensive head coach. I also think that is what is going to happen and I think the end result is going to be epic.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:40 PM ^
Offensive line came up big once again. Illinois has a very good front and our guys opened a lot of holes.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:42 PM ^
1. These guys have a lot of heart-it would have been easy to pack it in but they refuse to quit
2. I think Barwis gets another assist-I thought we were in much better shape at the end
3. It looked like they were having fun today and I haven't felt that way for a month. While we tear our collective guts out every week, it is still a game and the players should be having fun. Otherwise there is very little reason to put in the time and suffer the pain.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:54 PM ^
in the replay, did anyone see DRob bolt onto the field, ecstatic, jumping up and down?
November 6th, 2010 at 6:30 PM ^
He jumped into someone's arms. Must have been a lineman. I just know he had to jump very high to get into whoever's arms, and whoever it was who caught him was also strong enough to keep our QB's limbs protected by keeping them off the ground.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:55 PM ^
After this win, I feel like I swallowed a whole bottle of Viagra. Back to the bathroom for round three. I hope I don't need to seek medical attention again.
November 6th, 2010 at 6:14 PM ^
I can think of 67 big things.+
November 6th, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
for a young Michigan team. From this point forward they have no pressure on them to make it to a bowl game and can begin to play instinctive pressure-less football instead of anxious and over-analyzing football.
