Experienced MGoBloggers Comments
Not sure this is possible, but I would think it would be interesting to have a discuss limitied to the most experienced MGoBloggers (those with >10,000 points???) about what their thoughts wrt the direction the program ought to head -- stay the course, fire GERG, nuke the entire D staff...
Keeping it to the most experience MGoBloggers would eliminate the pictures of people lighting farts and the snarky comments. Most of them have probably expressed such an opinion, but this would consolidate their thoughts at one spot.
EDIT: The original idea was to try and use MGoPoints as a proxy for Block M's suggestion for a discussion for which the participants had to pass some sort of football knowledge competency test first. Based on the response, I now recognize the error of my way. MGoPoints and football knowledge are not necessarily correlated. My apologies to any I have offended -- I let my MGoDreams cloud my MGoJudgment.

that discussion would feature only the very best snarky comments and internet memes.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
Meaning that it would be entirely entertaining and hilarious?
November 5th, 2010 at 11:48 AM ^
I find it funny how this topic was brought up by someone with 313 points.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:58 AM ^
Don't rag on him because he has MGoDreams.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:16 PM ^
I don't mean to rag on him -- I had 300 points just a couple months ago. I just found it funny because he wouldn't be able to participate in such a discussion -- however, I guess he is suggesting that while the topic can only be discussed by MGoElites, everyone can view it...
November 5th, 2010 at 11:48 AM ^
That's not a discussion based on how valid their opinion is, but rather one based on others simply having way more free time than the rest of us...
November 5th, 2010 at 12:51 PM ^
Or they have amazing stories about their Korean girlfriend and her family. (Does anyone else automatically upvote any CRex post you see, in gratitude for all the entertainment he has provided?)
November 5th, 2010 at 1:25 PM ^
Couldn't have said it better.
Though I do spend most of my days at work reading mgoblog. Duo-monitors, one specifically for mgoblog...it explains why the federal government never gets anything done.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
Hate to break it to you, but the vast majority of my MGoPoints are because of my snarky comments.
But I'll go grab my pipe and slippers. You, boy, there's some port wine in the cabinet there, get it down please and don't spill, the rug is Persian.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
I have to agree. People tend to vote up sarcastic, funny posts and pictures. However, if one *starts* a thread with a new idea or starts a thoughtful discussion, people usually forget to upvote the thread. I think this is simply because people don't see "12 points" or whatever number of votes the thread has gotten (like they see on a reply) -- it always stays stuck at "1 point" and not many people think to vote on the thread (unless it's a TomVH, Brian, or Tim thread, or a thread that everyone hates, in which case it gets a ton of -1 votes).
November 5th, 2010 at 12:03 PM ^
They should hire you as the MGoPsychiatrist.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:05 PM ^
While I agree with everything you said, sometimes I wish we could not see the points voted on a individual post. I would hope people upvote/downvote on how they interpret the post and not what other people feel. Maybe, I am being too idealistic, because I am guilty of this on an occasion or two.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:15 PM ^
I agree with you. Other people's votes shouldn't matter. I also rarely vote, saving my votes for the best (and worst) comments.
However, I do take votes into account when I feel that somebody has made a valid point and is getting negged unfairly. In that case, I almost always give the post an upvote (even though if there had been no negative votes, I would not have voted).
November 5th, 2010 at 12:30 PM ^
Your last paragraph is when I said on occasion I am guilty of the same. I rarely downvote, has to be something that offends like making fun of a tragedy.
November 6th, 2010 at 3:31 AM ^
I see what you did there (sorry, no pic). Sneaky you are!
November 5th, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
Being able to see the points for a particular post made it a lot easier to gang up on trolls. Although it has drawbacks, the board is a lot better today because of it.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
You have a good point, but if you see a trollish comment, and you see the total points of a poster. You could neg on site and still kill trolls. Hey, it's not perfect, I was just putting it out there.
November 6th, 2010 at 3:33 AM ^
The best way to make them go away is just completely ignore them, however tempting it may be to respond.
November 5th, 2010 at 1:10 PM ^
I'm not sure about hiding point totals. It makes sense for voting, but sometimes when I am in a hurry or a thread has a lot of stupid/repetitive posts I'll scroll through and only read the higher point total posts.
November 5th, 2010 at 2:01 PM ^
You are right, I have to skim through some of the posts as well. Some of the higher point total posts can be jokes and other helpful post do get left behind. Nothing wrong with jokes, Lloyd Brady threads are my favorites and I loved the original one that was taken down. There is not a perfect system.
November 5th, 2010 at 1:59 PM ^
I think you have a valid point, but I like being able to see how many points a comment has gained. I usually upvote based on its current total. If something good has no upvotes I'm a lot likelier to upvote than if it already has 12.
November 5th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
As I said I am guilty of looking at point totals as well at times. But, when I have time, I try to look at the post and vote on it alone.
Your comment :
I usually upvote based on its current total. If something good has no upvotes I'm a lot likelier to upvote than if it already has 12.
All I can say to that is if you feel it's good, upvote it. You have your opinion and viewpoint, who cares if others think it's good or not. That shouldn't impact your decision. I am sure that most people on here have great views and do not need the influence of others on their decisions.
I think this site is great already, and this just a peripheral improvement suggestion. Without my suggestion, this site is still the best. Nice discussion and I really like the different thoughts.
November 5th, 2010 at 2:53 PM ^
I don't think I made my point clear enough. I don't upvote or downvote based on the opinion of others, but if I read a comment and like it I'll look and see how many points it already has. If I think it's worth more than what it already has, I'll upvote, if not, I won't.
November 5th, 2010 at 3:21 PM ^
Fair enough. I understood what you meant. I was just making a generalization using your comment from a different angle. My fault and I do appreciate the comment.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Hate to break it to you, but the vast majority of my MGoPoints are because of my snarky comments.
Until recently, all (yes, every last one of them) of my MGoPoints were due to snarky comments or pictures.
Now, they're for the pony avatar - a gentle reminder to everyone that you probably shouldn't come to me for football analysis.
(yay ponies!)
November 5th, 2010 at 12:12 PM ^
Wow, you are good. Your post about how you only get points from snarky comments is going to get a +1 from me because it is in fact funny. You are manipulating me, I know it, and there is nothing I can do about it.
DAMN YOU.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
Also we should do something about that pesky 19th Amendment.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
Who says just because you have (pick arbitrary # here) points you are any more qualified and "experienced" to have such a special type discussion. The point of this board is for ALL Michigan fans to come here and discuss amongst EVERYBODY else.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
with my point total I should never be taken seriously. Seriously!
November 5th, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^
I have wondered this for some time. How is it even humanly possible to accumulate so many negative points? You would think your point total would go up periodically by accident through people hitting reply to one of your posts (like I just did).
What on earth did you do or post that created that large of a neg-bomb to go off?
Now that I think about it perhaps thats the group that ought to get together and start a thread. Minus 500 or worse only allowed to participate in the roundtable discussion. I can only imagine what would come out of that post.
November 5th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
is in my signature. I had a meltdown after the Iowa game and got the 10,000 point hammer. I realized I deserved it when I sobered up haha.
November 5th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
Thank you.
Note to self: Reject any impulse to post an emo whine thread.

Now, if we were talking zombie apocalypse or crime, I'm your huckleberry.

Likewise... except my craft is IT consulting. I'm also conversational in Spanish and studied abroad in Barcelona.
I was also a BGS major, FWIW and have some funny ass stories from having worked EQ Cafeteria. Chef Matt, anybody?
November 5th, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
I'm going to be honest: My opinion on actual football strategy is 100 billion times less worthwhile than a ton of people that only have 50 points.
What would be interesting is to have a discussion where everyone had to pass some sort of football knowledge competency test first. I could get behind that.
November 5th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
Damn, only if I had 1269 more MgoPoints my opinion would matter.

1. (preferable) hire Casteel fire Gerg and run a 3-3-5
2. Nuke the staff and bring in a DC who picks his scheme and all of his coaches.
This bs that we are doing won't work
November 5th, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
But you don't have 10,000 points.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:02 PM ^
But not for the MGoPlatinumLounge.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:13 PM ^
I am really starting to love this thread. I see great possibilities for top shelf snarkyness.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
Can you explain your avatar?
November 5th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
And because you can't have one without the other...

Simply fantastic.
November 5th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
It is a picture of a topless girl I know with Michigan undergarments on. That is all.
November 5th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
"a topless girl I know"
Either post the alternate, converse version or I don't believe you.
November 5th, 2010 at 1:21 PM ^
Thought I might get some people not believing me, lol. Don't worry I didn't take the picture. As you can see it is taken into a mirror. I saved the full picture to my home computer (widened and uncropped), and I am at work so can't post it.
I did go to a dance with her in highschool and we kissed at an eight grade party if that lends me any credibility ;).
