am I currently having a seizure?
August 25th, 2010 at 5:39 PM ^
My first question would be
why do I keep switching my breakfast mushrooms and special mushrooms? Because I can't stop looking at that beautiful piece of headgear.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:08 PM ^
can we coordinate these with our all maize uniforms?
August 25th, 2010 at 5:38 PM ^
I actually really like the carbon helmets. They look way better with the logo on them though. The stripe with the words on it is really the only part of the helmet that I don't like.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:38 PM ^
This is going moiré like a sonofabitch.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:40 PM ^
FAST HARD FINISH!
Ha!
August 25th, 2010 at 6:13 PM ^
That's what she said. Zing!
August 25th, 2010 at 5:41 PM ^
had some sort of connection to the school? You know, like school colors and stuff? Unless they're going to change their school colors to black and gray, it seems Oregon is looking to leave that quaint tradition in the rearview mirror. First that hideous diamond plate, now this disorienting carbon pattern...
Hey, maybe that's what they're after with this helmet -- they want to disorient their opponents!
Also...I'm in a tiny minority, but when I see WTD, I think not of another silly motivational phrase, but of my favorite photography-themed comic strip.

Whenever my friend texts me the f-bomb from her blackberry, it autocompletes as "duck." What the Duck indeed.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:32 PM ^
Oregon still has plenty of tradition. The have the tradition of having the worst uniforms at any level of football: college, pro, pop warner, or premier league.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:42 PM ^
That guy has a lot of neck hair.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:56 PM ^
That guy has a lot of neck hair.
I'm surprised that you can discern that from my avatar picture, but thank you.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:43 PM ^
What The Duck?

This is going to migrate south fast!
August 25th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
oh i get it! french class!
August 25th, 2010 at 5:44 PM ^
Their transformation into action figures is complete.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:47 PM ^
It looks like his cable went out. Nothing but fuzz. (edit: neck hair or helmet, take your pick.)
August 25th, 2010 at 5:53 PM ^
Is it going to stay plain like that or will they afix an "O" on it before game use? Either way it is ugly, but it needs to have some sign that it is tied to a school. Maybe a Nike Swoosh, since that is essentially what Oregon is. Nike experimentation University.
August 25th, 2010 at 5:59 PM ^
Doc Sat says "they also come with logos," which makes it sound like the logo is optional. Who the hell knows.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:01 PM ^
Maybe a sailboat or a unicorn. I was never any good at those.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:35 PM ^
Just like Willam from Mallrats. Look, a sailboat.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
A scooner IS a sailboat stupid head!
August 25th, 2010 at 6:08 PM ^
Well according to the Grand Rapids Press, the wings on our helmets are optional.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
but that helmet is pretty sweet.
August 25th, 2010 at 8:21 PM ^
I think it's pretty cool. And if the players like it, it doesn't matter what we think anyway. I love creativity with uniforms, it makes you stand out and gets you a heckuva lot of exposure. Please don't interpret this as a suggestion that Michigan do such a thing to their helmet or jerseys, as I would poop my pants if they did, but I like that Oregon does crazy stuff with their unis
August 25th, 2010 at 6:01 PM ^
Uh, if you read Doc Saturday's post, you would see that this isn't a new design. This was introduced last year:
The helmets were originally introduced last summer as part of the Ducks' annual uniform fashion show, but somehow wound up being ignored among the hundreds of possible game-day combinations at the Ducks' disposal on any given weekend.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:12 PM ^
Not a "Best in College" helmet like ours, but cool.
Keep trying Oregon...
and ditch the horrendous green and yellow uniforms.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:16 PM ^
Personally I like the emerging tradition of Oregon's commitment to avant garde, hi-tech uniforms. If your school doesn't have the tradition of a place like Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, etc. then why not embrace a different approach? It's just another example of the variety within college football that makes it so much more interesting than the conformity of the NFL.
On a bit of a tangent, I also think that Oregon's new academic center for student athletes is pretty nice too, "The House That Phil Knight Built":

August 25th, 2010 at 6:24 PM ^
Jesus God, those are horrid. And what's with the Atari Space Invaders fonts straight out of 1983?
August 25th, 2010 at 6:25 PM ^
I cant help but to think this was made of kevlar.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:26 PM ^
Does anyone know or can anyone find out how many uniform / helmet possibilities Oregon actually has? And personally I never thought Oregons original uniforms were that bad to begin with. Damn you Phil Knight.
August 25th, 2010 at 6:45 PM ^
Is that pattern from one of those Magic Eye posters, that you have to stare at for like an hour to see the hidden picture?
August 25th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
Its a duck sticking it to a beaver. See ir now?
August 25th, 2010 at 6:49 PM ^
Why not make real carbon fiber helmets? I think it would be a good recruiting pitch if you could say 'our helmets cost $5k each.' Also, they would be light and less likely to break necks.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
It's making me cross-eyed
August 25th, 2010 at 7:06 PM ^
These helmets need more disco chrome.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
Ohio State already has a copyright on disco chrome helmets.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
Imagine these helmets on a sunny day....opposing teams won't be able to see what the hell they're doing!
August 25th, 2010 at 7:37 PM ^
I guess good for them, but at some point you are just creating wacky new uniform combinations for your own enjoyment. Nobody will care that Oregon had bulletproof helmets, yet they probably will waste some serious money on it.
August 25th, 2010 at 7:37 PM ^
I can see how that design would throw off opponents. Very hard to look at
August 25th, 2010 at 7:44 PM ^
Death, Taxes, and stupid attempts by Oregon to re-envision their unis.
August 25th, 2010 at 8:34 PM ^
We might think it's stupid, but a lot of high schoolers love them.
August 25th, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
... but they give the cheerleaders "helmet hair":
August 25th, 2010 at 8:58 PM ^
I found Waldo, or if you look at the helmet with your peripheral vision you will see a seascape with a dock and a sailboat...
August 25th, 2010 at 9:04 PM ^
They just keep getting uglier. I'd say in about 5 years this will be the Ducks' uniforms.
