The Maryland players should…

The Maryland players should refuse to play or epically throw the next game in protest. Kneel every offesnive play. Give up a touchdown on every first down. If games are what matter, losing 350 to 0 will get their attention. Disgraceful.

I think that Hoke has done a

I think that Hoke has done a good enough job that it's forced me to re-evaluate what makes a head coach "good." During the search, I was hoping we'd land another Rich Rodriguez/Urban Meyes "genius" coach who creatively innovates and has the potential to bring teams to the top. Hoke, by his own admission is not that coach, but he hired two coordinators whohave unleashed some truly creative playcalls and assembled a staff that by all appearances has really great cohesion. He himself makes intelligent decisions in-game and seems to manage his coordinators successfully without micromanaging them.

As cheesy as it sounds, Hoke's very love for Michigan seems to be the single greatest asset, as I think that more than anything is creating a lot of positive energy around the program that excites the current players, future recruits, and all of the fans. It will take three or four years to see what Hoke's true legacy as a Michigan coach will be, but at this point I'm really hoping he is able to fill the icon void left by Bo, and don't see any reason why that's not possible if things keep going on the upward trajectory they appear to be.

They just lived through Luke

I remember thinking this very thing while watching the game. His defense seemed really well-coached and played impressively for much of the game, and he generally seems to have his act together in a way that's miles above the Zooker. I bet he'd be a really good candidate.

I disagree. I think much of the media, notably Adam Ritternberg with ESPN, is as vastly disenchanted with Dantonio-discipline as we are.

Like the commentators said,

Like the commentators said, that play left receivers wide open in the endzone. If the offensive line had picked up the blitz, that was a touchdown and Borges is a hero. Hindsight is always 20/20.

There were a lot of issues

There were a lot of issues with dropped balls early, but the biggest issue there was the proverbial battle in the trenches. I thought Denard did pretty well considering the pass protection issues. The really puzzling thing was how poor our defensive line played.

I think we were all expecting a few losses at some point, so I am not super surprised by this. After any loss, it is easy to look at negatives and mistakes, but I still think this is a 9 win team, based on overall season performance to date. Morbid though it may seem, I am sort of excited to see how Hoke and company bounce back after a defeat.

Am I crazy or is the DSR for

Am I crazy or is the DSR for this game incorrect? As I understand it, the formula  is DO + CA/All throws except PR and SCR. That would give a ratio of 16/26, or 61%, not 59%. What am I missing here?

That is fair, it should be a close game, and with the home field advantage MSU should be a slight edge.

This thread becomes more

This thread becomes more entertaining when I imagine that you, 03 Blue 07, and MGoShirtless are all the same person, kind of like the three-headed knight creature from Monty Python.

Last one is a common

Last one is a common photoshop meme. The kid is actually watching an EPL game, and has since been photoshopped into just about every jersey you could think of.

I have wondered a similar

I have wondered a similar thing myself. I'm inclined to instinctively say no, but it'll be interesting to see what the offense looks like in 5 or so years when Morris is at the helm.

NO. No no no no no. No. No.

NO. No no no no no. No. No. Worst idea ever.

Agreed. My younger brother

Agreed. My younger brother attends there, and I have kept track of them more than I usually would. They were competitive against Illinois, and to a lesser extent against us as well. The insane reporter from Kalamazoo who said Alex Carder was the best quarterback in the state is still insane, but man, not by much. They should roll through most of the MAC schedule at the rate they are going.

Man, that one hurts.

Man, that one hurts.

For that matter, it's interesting to go back to the old blogspot site too and read the earlier version of mgoblog writings. It's crazy how quickly that has changed too.

I agree. It's weird how

I agree. It's weird how people just sort of vanish from you radar, but MGoShoe and the others you mentioned provided great commentary. It is interesting to think about how much the message board has evolved over the years. I myself have been reading since late 2007 (though only a sporadic contributor), and as things have expanded and changed in both the site and the program, the dynamics have shifted drastically over the years. I don't think it has necessarily gotten any worse, but there is a bit of nostalgia in me for some of the nuttier, King of Belch type of creatures that used to lurk around.

Best of luck guys.

Truth be told, I think WMU is

Truth be told, I think WMU is one of the top tier MAC teams this year. They had a pretty good outing against us, and if they hadn't been plagued with turnovers could have made it downright uncomfortable. They demolished CMU (which admittedly just lost by a similar score to MSU) and at this point I'm inclined to think that keeping it close with Illinois is more to their credit than the Illini's discredit. They should run wild over much of the MAC this year.

That was an upsetting play. I

That was an upsetting play. I remember the TV announcers berating him for losing contain on that play and then the replay showing obvious holding.

It explains his offensive

It explains his offensive playcalling now... he is just trying to exhaust all possible combinations of plays and players thereby rendering the need to play the game at all completely redundant. While we sit in despair as the offseason becomes eternal, the only threads on the board will be heated philosophical arguments as to whether we have infinite wins or infinite losses.

I can only hope he stays

I can only hope he stays there. This week has me terrified between being in the top 25 and having Denard in the Heisman hunt. I can't bear another letdown.

I think our destiny is clear.

I think our destiny is clear. We need to follow in the footsteps of the old WCHA hegemony and catalyze a geographically impossible superconference composed only of Michigan, Ohio State, and the Preseason Top 10 every year.

I once had a chance to see

I once had a chance to see Bacon speak at a small event, and he discussed the time he spent with Bo when working on that book. Interestingly enough, he had no definitive subject or even a contract for the book, he just put the time in because he thought it would be worthwhile and eventually it was.

I would imagine he had the same attitude this time around.

I have noticed the same

I have noticed the same thing. I think the Big Ten is going to be a wild run this year. Wisconsisn appears dominant, and everyone else seems to have a lot of questions to answer.

The ND meltdown of aught was

The ND meltdown of aught was far more glorious in that everyone on the board merged into a single hive-mind of pain and self-loathing. I could see a few more losses getting them to that point.

I love the question to Hoke:

I love the question to Hoke: "This is the third game you've started, uh, kind of slow on defense, is there way to combat that?"

Hoke: if there was, we would have done it.

I appreciate your

I appreciate your reliability, Section 1. Your hatred of Rosenberg and the Free Press is the great gravitational constant of this blog.

In the small stadium

In the small stadium rennovation a few years prior to the big one, they built in that section for the band in the corner. The thinking, as I understand it, was wanting to keep the band as part of the student section. Obviously this is flawed and for sound quality the logical place is definitely the endzone, but moving them at this point would require another mini-rennovation and displacing the people that currently sit there. If it ever happens it won't be for a number of years.

Good luck!
