Odds for Michigan's 5 Biggest Games Released
Odds from South Point Hotel & Casino, for their "Game Of The Year" matchups, have been released.
EDIT: The Maize N Brew article originally said Notre Dame by 6. It must have been a typo. It should have read -1.
Michigan at Notre Dame ---- Notre Dame favored by 6
EDIT: should be -1
i.e., Michigan favored by 1
Wisconsin at Michigan ---- Michigan favored by 3
Michigan at Michigan St ---- Michigan St favored by 1
Penn St at Michigan ---- Michigan favored by 3.5
Michigan at Ohio St ---- Ohio St favored by 9
Other notable games:
Wisconsin at Iowa ---- Wisconsin favored by 5
Texas A&M at Alabama ---- Alabama favored by 21
Stanford at Notre Dame ---- Notre Dame favored by 8
Ohio St at Penn St ---- Ohio St favored by 1.5, this
will be the White Out Game
Nebraska at Wisconsin ---- Wisconsin favored by 17
Alabama at LSU ---- Alabama favored by 10
Ohio St at Michigan St ---- Ohio St favored by 6
Wisconsin at Penn St ---- Penn St favored by 4.5
Ohio St favored by 9 over Michigan, clearly, seems too high. This game was very close the last 2 years. The 9 will probably be much smaller six months from now.
If Alabama beats Texas A&M by 21 it will be very embarrassing for Jimbo Fisher, and those at Texas A&M that decided to hire him. I do expect Texas A&M will lose that game. But I really don't think it will be a blow out like that.
Will Penn St take Ohio St by surprise this time in the White Out Game? I don't think so. I wish. But I don't think so.
Can Alabama win by 10 at LSU? Those games are always tough ones. But then again, Les Miles is gone from LSU. Maybe LSU will start to drop off a little.

Get 'em while they're hot.
Huh. Thought I just saw the other day ND UM was trending toward pick em?
That seems like a crazy spread of lines, but I guess not that surprsing for the first game of the year.
Maybe they didn't get the memo of Shea Patterson, Ed Warinner, Jim McElwain, and Al Washington, being added to the team, Chris Partridge moved to safeties, and all the experienced players returning on defense.
But who knows for sure. Maybe all those factors will mean nothing... Um. Nah. I can't believe that.
I really do think Notre Dame's offense is going to have a very tough time with Michigan's defense. I am especially looking forward to how the safeties will do with Chris Partridge coaching them.
Can't wait for the Detroit casinos to have sportsbooks. Right now I only use Bovada, and while they will pay out, overall they suck. I love that MSU line. I would take UofM up to -6.5.
I love the ND line as well, but no other book has it anywhere near +6. Bovada is UofM -1.
I'm not sure about 6.5, but I would wager that by the week of that game, Michigan will be a small favorite.
To hell with Notre Dame?
The TAMU @ Bama and Nebraska at Wisco lines look...interesting.
Both TAMU and Nebraska have new head coaches who have been pretty good at their previous stops; I'm surprised that their new teams are such huge dogs with this book. If I were still a betting man, I'd drop some money on those two games for the dogs.
I’ve seen Michigan -1 in most places too but a friend said he got +7 in Vegas last week (not sure what casino). Michigan +7 is insane for that game.
even if you were a bookie and you personally had the game at M + 7, you'd get absolutely pounded being so far off the market.
Based on FPI on the espn website here
I got this for Michigan win probability for the season. 9 wins is the most probable (using poisson binomial distribution).
My prediction: 10-2
Go Blue!
ESPN used to be about sports.
If you want to watch people argue all day
If you want to watch people argue all day
If there are other probabilities out there let me know. I can generate another distribution. For the record, it predicted 10 wins for ND (to hell with ND!) which is what Bill Connelly predicts (and I am thinking he is using similar method)
One of the longstanding gripes about ESPN, of course, is that it has been about certain sports and leagues to the exclusion of other things, several of which have sizeable audiences by themselves. ESPN's corporate vision lately, which it follows to the letter save for a few fixtures, is to provide the most bland and unimaginitive sports programming possible.
LOL!
MSU favored by 1? Hmm. What on Earth are the whacked out reasons for that one?
The Maize N Brew article was at 6. But you're right. I just checked the link. It's corrected. It now says -1. It must have been a typo.
I'll edit the post.
So, to sum it up it's OSU vs Wiscy in the B1G champtionship. OSU is going to the playoff as they go undefeated, UM goes 10-2 (losing to OSU & MSU), PSU goes 10-2 (losing to OSU & UM), MSU goes 10-2 (losing to OSU & PSU), & Wiscy goes 10-2 (losing to OSU & UM).
There's no way that pans out and the B1G has 4 teams with 10 wins. I also highly doubt we lose to both MSU & OSU. I'd also be surprised if OSU does not drop at least a game somewhere along the way, if not 2. But, all 4 of these teams are fairly closely ranked so it's pretty much a crap shoot. Injuries will play role here as well somewhere during the season.
I don't think those odds are saying those teams will have only 2 losses. They are just giving their odds for those particular games. They don't say anything about wins and losses in games other than the ones they list.
The season is a failure at that point.
is OSU. It will take a great coaching job by Jim to beat OSU on the road. May be Shea will surprise us and be a world beater. For once it would be great heading into the OSU game with the better QB. I thought we did in '06 but I hope Shea becomes great for us to win the B1G.
Haskins looked pretty darned good against us last year. I'm not sure what more a QB can do.
what people are putting their money on. Nothing to do with the actual play of the teams.
FWIW - ND offense is returning 7 starters on offense & 10 on defense.
WR & S seem to be the biggest question marks. 1 OL to replace, although 2 were drafted.
