Official: Friday Night Adult Beverage thread and 'Sam's Club or Costco' Poll

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

I don't know about you, but this wasn't my favorite week.  I'm such a slacker I didn't even get my manure spread (maybe tomorrow).  I will be having an adult beverage this evening, almost certainly red pop of one fashion or another.

Also, in our area there is a Sam's Club and recently a Costco opened up.  I've been a Sam's Club member for years and years, and they do good with what they are supposed to.  I've been to Costco in other areas, albeit infrequently.   Seems okay but I can't think of a reason to switch.

So for tonight, two questions:

1.  What's in your cup?

2.  Sam's Club or Costco, and why?  Is there really any significant difference?

I hope you have a great weekend

  1. Ginger Beer!
  2. We are current members and shoppers at both stores.  Costco aims for higher earning demographic than Sam's Club as can be seen in their product selection that they carry - e.g. Hunter Boots for the ladies, as well as more ethnic foods.  For the same staple items - toilet paper, tooth paste, chips, etc, Sam's has a bigger selection and also is cheaper!  The other thing about the Ann Arbor Sam's Club vs. Costco, is that since fewer people shop there now since the arrival of Costco, the lines at Sams' Club are non-existent vs. Costco.

Costco and it's not close. Great prices on alcohol and all other items they carry. They treat their workers fairly. You can't beat the quality on most items. They also have an insanely liberal return policy. I've never used it but it's good to know they will take care of you regardless. Drinking some Oban procured from my local Costco.

M43.  I was able to get a 4-pack of the Strawberry earlier this week, but it's just the original tonight.

Is there anyone who honestly prefers Sam's?  The only reason I go there is because Sam's is about 10 minutes away from me, and the closest Costco is almost an hour away.

I have the admit the Scan-and-Go Sam's app makes it much more bearable to go there now.

1. Molson Canadian on draft from my basement. 2. Costco all day. I don’t think Kirkland makes anything that isn’t top notch. Plus their refrigerated meals are completely clutch.

Screwdrivers because I literally have only oj and vodka in the house. And NHL playoffs, of course. And I've never been to either, but I'll vote Costco simply to vote against Walmart.

Trying to choke down some beers from my beer fridge. Took 3 months off from drinking to start the year and now have to clear out the fridge of some older beer to make some room.

real coca cola classic in a glass bottle made with actual sugar from mexico.

Costco. No question.

I have a 100 pound labrador. his food is normally $55 per 35 lb bag but at costco it is $33. So after 3 bags i've made up the $60 membership.

Lucky brand jeans for $29.  Kirkland brand is high quality name brand stuff with the private kirkland label.  they don't mess around with the stuff they put their name on.  their meat department is phenomenal.

i even had a client use the mortgage lender they referred and had a good experience.

and the gas savings is huge here in LA.  saving $0.20+ cents per gallon usually.  sometimes much more.

Drinking Bearded Iris Tiki Time and Bearded Iris Attention Please! while outlining for my Poverty Law class. I really hate outlining, and regret taking this class b/c I couldn't find any decent outlines from 3L's.

I'm a member of both. Don't ask. I prefer Costco, but their presence in Traverse City has challenged Sam's to up their game. Still, Kirkland brands offer a lot compared to Sam's Choice. I like making about 5 trips a month to Costco, one per month to Sam's.

I shop at Costco if I can simply because they pay their employees well and treat them better, and that’s something I think is worth supporting. I still have a Sam’s membership because it is closer and on occasion I will buy there in emergencies.

Vitamins, fish oil, supplements etc. but Costco has Kirkland options for all of these with very good prices. Also, I'm at the age where the majority of my clothing and sneakers are purchased from Costco. Great deals if you're willing to find your size amongst the XXLs piled up

& Costco, hands down.

because:

1. everyone knows it

2. prices, products, politics. They pay their workers better. Won some award for best place to work, iirc. Still keep prices decent.

And I don't even currently have either.

Hope you're enjoying your red pop!

‘03 Courcel Grand Clos De Epenots. My firm just got appointed co-lead counsel in a big case. Gotta do it right, with a burgundy from the beginning of the class period.

Costco.  Dog food, vitaimins, OTC meds, shampoo and 4.99 rotisserie chicken are all worth the membership.  The more kids you have eating your food, the better deal it is...

So the hell with Sam's club too. Been going to Costco for years and have found some good deals and enjoy seeing and enjoying the latest influx of Organic foods.

Costco membership. My wife and I have been “Executive” members for at least 10 years. It has meant extra discounts on home and auto insurance, so the price difference between the two levels has been worth it. I tend to be center-right in my points of view, but Costco’s center-left values make a huge difference in how they treat their employees. As a result, their associates are more helpful, courteous, and hard working. Fairness and equity ought to be a universal value, but Costco puts its money where its mouth is. Interestingly, most of the profits at Costco come from the sale and renewal of memberships. Their margins on retail sales is actually much less than industry competitors. They don’t seem to care, and neither do their shareholders. Good for them. I hope they continue to succeed. They’re a great company.
