So are we going to get that recruiting bump in MBB?

Submitted by WindyCityBlue on

This has been talked about here and there in other threads, but thought I would make one dedicated post to this topic.

We all remember what happened last time we made it to the NCAA tournament finals.  From the increased exposure and success, we thought we'd start getting higher profile recruits.  Bubcus!  Excuses were abound, including:

1. JB's archaic approach to recruiting

2. Recruiting is a dirty game of which we do not play

3. It takes time to garner the right relationships with the right recruits, so don't expect a recruiting bump right away.

So, are things different now?  We've had a very successful 6 years and have sent many kids to the NBA.  Are kids going to notice now?  Will the FBI investigation help the clean recruiters like JB?

What say you MGoBoard?

Nope, probably not. The things that would motivate our mostly rational minds and what motivatea 17 year old's decisions have proven to be light years away from each other. I expect nothing to change regardless of what Beilein has done in player development and March success.

I’m happy with whoever Beilein is happy with. A 2 star in Rahkman has been one of Beilein’s best career players. Stauskas, Burke, Hardaway, LeVert, and Wagner were all diamonds in the rough. There is no point in getting worked up about recruiting under Beilein. He will prove you wrong again and again.

Levert was going to Ohio until Illinois poached Groce and he said 'nah, you're not good enough for Illinois.' Burke was going to PSU as OSU said nah we'd rather have shannon scott? I'm having trouble remembering the name. I don't remember anyone else going after Stauskas, hardaway, or wagner.

2013 run. The current crop of kids were just starting to become serious players and some became fans of UM back then. It will be a couple of years before we see the effect of this year’s run. All we need is some degree of success the next two years.

Look at our abomination of a football season. If you want a bball example look at Ohio State. You can get 5 star guys and still be unsuccessful.

This is also a bad year to question blines recruiting. He has a couple of T-50 guys coming in.

Beilein proved this season he doesn’t need a bunch of one and done players. I’d rather have a team developed and stick together for three or four years. Seniors are so important for college sports.
