Selection Show Open Thread

Happy Selection Sunday everyone! Sadly, it's not a great year for this holiday in sports due to this sleepy show...I thought it was still gonna be bad, but it would be better than I expected. Now that I'm seeing this format, there is clearly nothing they have up their sleeve! Way to make a boring show astronomically more boring CBS! They literally sucked all of the remaining excitement out of this show.

It's on TBS as controversially discussed, as well as the CBS Sports App and probably the March Madness App.

You can watch the team and the Maize Rage watch here: https://twitter.com/umichbball/status/972953533917028352?s=21

Probably the better bracket to be in compared to MSU, but I kind of wish we dropped to a 4 seed, since I think Xavier is a better match up then UNC if we make it that far.

Michigan’s played North Carolina in the Sweet 16 before. That didn’t turn out so badly... MSU obviously ahead of Michigan on the S-Curve, but I think I like the Xavier / UNC draw better than Kansas / Duke.

Because the bracketing principles allow it, and it means that they can do a better job of following the S-curve than if they swapped teams around for conference affiliation. This was a change they made around the time the Old Big East got to 16 teams, with 9 or 10 in the tournament. It’s a good change, as far as I’m concerned. Don’t spend so much time worrying about games that may never happen; just snake the teams through the curve and be done with it.

Think consensus was to stay away from Villanova and Duke for as long as possible and wanted Xavier as the 1. Would have preferred not Carolina as 2, but I think that is a better 2 for us then Duke. Like our bracket.

Using KenPom, Montana is the best #14 seed — by a lot. (They’re #75). Houston is the best #6 seed — they’re #17. UNC is the worst #2 seed — they’re #7. And Xavier is the worst #1 seed by a huge margin — they’re #14. Perhaps more importantly, Gonzaga is the best #4 seed — they’re #8 in KenPom. Michigan can get through this bracket but it’s sure no cakewalk. Committee making up seeds, as usual.

can't be upset about a strong 14 seed, IMO - have to be able to beat a PSU/Neb on a neutral floor. Not that we can't lose of course.

Houston seems like a good team but also a good match up for M.

Much rather have week #1 & #2 seeds ahead of us and strong 6+ seeds behind than the reverse.
