Dantonio: I've Done Nothing Wrong and I'm Not Retiring
Dantonio just read a statement at the Breslin Center saying, of course, that he did nothing wrong, that he's a great guy, and that he runs a clean program. He then took a direct question, asking if he was retiring, and he said no.
Did not address any specific allegations in the ESPN story, of course.
Pride comes before the fall. Dantonio still thinks he's in the "pride" phase.

It will be that much more enjoyable to beat MSU now. The game feels like it has a much deeper meaning now. Go blue!

Hollis suddenly fell on his sword, to try and salvage Dantonio? (Maybe it wasn't as sudden as it seemed).
With Hollis out, Dantonio's job is safe while the process of hiring a new AD plays out?
Well... hmmm. Even if Hollis leaving means that Dantonio doesn't have to worry about being dismissed, all of the unspoken assumptions out there that may affect recruiting/coaching (don't have to play school... and don't worry you won't have to play jail either...) can no longer be relied on. No more brushing under the rug; there will be spotlights shining on every corner.

So deny, deny, deny, then discredit, discredit, discredit the shit out of those with the facts. I can see it coming.

This could be the transition time for Michigan State time to move on from a 60-something year old coach and bring in Narduzzi who many think is his successor anyways. His retirement was coming sooner than later anyways
January 26th, 2018 at 9:16 PM ^
Not so sure they would bring in anyone with ties to Dantonio, especially someone who was around during many of the reported incidents (regardless if Narduzzi's hands were clean). Of course this is State we're talking about, so suppose anything is possible.

I guess this is that Meteor implosion that has finally hit MSU. I always wanted to have it happen when they played OSU, but this will have to do.
If Jim Tressel could not survive Tatoogate, I am pretty sure Dantonio will not be able to survive these sexual misconduct incidents.

I wouldn't lump Simon and Hollis with Nassar. No doubt these admins were negligent in the handing of this tragic situation, but Nassar is truly a monster who betrayed his oath as a physician and did unspeakable deeds. He knew exactly what he was doing was wrong.

It'd be great if someone went in and fucked w/ Dantoni's wikipedia page and added a "controversies" section listing all of the bullshit he's pulled throughout the years with his low character football team -- Winston, Cooper, Robertson, etc. Put it out there for all the world to see.

The new President and AD they hire from outside the university will completely clean house. Even from a pure PR standpoint, and leaving aside all the other reasons they'd be fired, this would be standard procedure under circumstances like this.
January 26th, 2018 at 10:28 PM ^
State is going to hire someone as President who is known to be "by the book" for the sake of public perception. Someone who doesnt give a lick about athletics to return MSU to its core mission. That person will have a mandate to change the culture and they will replace every single person who has even the sleightest taint upon them. Mork is tainted. There is alot more at stake here for MSU than its athletic department.
January 27th, 2018 at 7:35 AM ^
Does the board of trustees make the decision? If so, do you think George Perles and Joel Ferguson are looking to bring in someone to change the culture and clean house?

The post about the thing in South Quad in '82 wasn't describing a sexual assault, just a plain old assault. The statute of limiitations passed decades ago on it. I was a student in South Quad around that time, and came in contact with Harbaugh -- including in IM sports where he was INSANELY competitive to the point of thuggish -- and have no reason whatsoever to disbelieve it. There was a group of guys who were some the top players on the team in 1985, which included him, that were complete pains in the ass on campus, way more than any of the five years before or after.
I'm just not sure what any of this has to do with MSU and the current stories and scandals. The current Michigan football coach got wasted and hit a woman when he was 19? And?

Mork must be very confident in his eventual vindication. If he were to be fired with cause, hed lose his pension. Therefore the prudent thing would be to follow in Hollis' and Simon's footsteps and retire before you can be fired.
