OT- Wormholes

Submitted by Inflammable Flame on

Since it's the weekend and there's not much in the way of significant sporting events until this afternoon, I took it upon myself to help you pass your time until your upcoming camping trip.

My question to the board is this: What is the best internet wormhole you have ever fallen into?

For those that don't know...an internet wormhole is basically when you mindlessly surf the web and find yourself either balls-deep in something super intriguing or when one web search leads to a string of endless web searches that leaves you wondering where you are and how you got there.

Mine: After hearing about the Bhopal-Union Carbide disaster, my googling led me to the Johnstown Dam disaster, which led me to the Three Mile Island accident. After spending too much time on that, I was then led to Chernobyl; which is where I found a pretty cool video by Discovery Channel called Zero Hour (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITEXGdht3y8). Before I knew it I had too much time invested in this journey and am now pretty much a self-proclaimed man-made disaster expert.

I will check out Sins. I thought double cross was crap. That one was like the Paul Bunyan tale for mobsters. Seems like it takes every possible major mob event and attributes it to Giancana. And nobody is around to deny or confirm. I do believe he had something to do with JFK. Much more skeptical about St Valentines Massacre.

First hand account of everything in the book from someone who was there. Heard it from the source before the book was published. Have gone down many wormholes verifying what i was told over several dinners, and then later showed up in DC.

In the sense of learning about it, not joining. I think I had enough internet that day when I read that those who serve the "church" on their super secret cruise ship/yacht are bound FOREVER, soul and all, to that ship. They believe they must serve even in death. It was far from the strangest thing about Scientology but still interesting. I read about it for the better part of an afternoon.

And in particular, explanations of the final episode. There was so much symbolism. After reading all about it, I understood why it took so damn long between seasons. Recently, I fell into the Matrix wormhole. Would you believe that Agent Smith is actually the One? Or that the matrix is actually a matrix within another Matrix?

I found myself checking the rediculous times people would have in games that took me sometimes 5 times longer to beat. I was so mad when I saw someone had got 101% in Donkey Kong 64 in less than 5 and a half hours.

Not sure how some started but good ones ended up leading me to The Dyatlov Pass incident, which has always been a great mystery. When I got on the CERN collider I was intrigued, then I thought the show Stranger Things connected to it. I am a sucker for the unknown.

Serial Killers. It's interesting how they all have different MOs even if it is a bit macabre. The explanations from the ones who were caught alive, how they get caught, and the way the defend themselves in court are all so bizarre its hard to stop reading.

I stumbled upon Andrew Kehoe, responsible for the worst school-related mass killings. It happened near Bath, Michigan, around where I grew up. Combine him with Nassar and the OK City bombers and I have to wonder, WTF is wrong with Mid-Michigan?

avoid all wormholes, as inevitably they lead to PoonHub. However, if I do happen to again stumble into one, I'll bring a full report (pics and videos included) to Dennis's camping trip.

It would be awesome if there were wrestling matches in front of a huge bonfire, with betting on the winners of such matches as

• Brian Cook vs Ed Feng

• LSA2000 vs Franklin Hatchett

• TIMMAY vs WD

• Somewittyname vs RedGreene

• Maizen vs everybody

What these theories amount to is Russian psychological warfare efforts to confuse and divide the American populace. It never appeared to the people who imbide these theories to ask this despite the Russians having a long history of engaging in this type of behavior.(US as well)

They simply accepted it as truth or feasible and went on from there.

Brains that readily accept conspiracy theories do so not out of an effort to "seek the truth" as they claim, but for confirmation of their worldview. Almost invariably the people who embrace a certain conspiracy are predisposed to loathing the purported conspirators.  Traditionially, it has been the Jews. It is still the Jews(referred to in code as Zionists and Rothschilds)and the US government.

This is possible because people are stupid or so ignorant of history, science, warfare, and politics that they believe the most cockamamied theories. Instead of seeking to reduce their ignorance through the acquiring insight from experts they resort to watching YouTube videos, visting 4Chan or visiting sites created on AngelFire by mostly lonely white men living in their parents basement or some shithole apartment.

This is the trashiest form of bait. Lead with a personal attack and follow up with a half-baked explanation.

There is nothing in the 17+ years since the event that indicates any sort of Russian involvement in the theories that are offered as alternative explanations.

That nations meddle in each other’s affairs is an afterthought to those who study international affairs. Obviously this happens, but to show so clearly a recency bias to the Russian situation lends truth to the idea that you are likely unable to offer anything that resembles real analysis

Based solely on people's paranoia and ignorance.

Did Russia create this theory? Who knows?

But I do know that Russia is the author the documents of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion that purportedly show the minutes of a Jewish cabal who supposedly run the world. They invented these minutes and passed it off as truth. Many people to this day still believe that it is legitimate despite it long ago being proven to be a fraud.

If more people knew things like this they would be far more cynical of conspiracy theories than they actually are.

I fear we may lose many today, and the search for all of us will be traced back to this thread, and the last words our loved ones yelled up to us: "Honey, what are you doing in there?!" This inquiry will be followed by the tried and true, "Just a minute...", but it's never "just a minute." Never. Godspeed!
