OT: Best purchase you've made lately

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Since there's not much going on tonight, thought I'd toss this one out of the MGoBlogosphere.

Mine? I'm a huge popcorn fan and recently got a silicone/silpat popcorn maker. Toss in a pat of butter along with a quarter cup of white popcorn seeds and VOILA. Delicious popcorn. 10x better than regular microwave popcorn.

$5 at a swap-meet type thing my kid's school put on. I cook a lot and this reduces my prep time significantly. Plus it can slice things way thinner than I can usually do with a knife.

Bought myself a RecTec pellet grill. Looks awesome and super easy to use. Bought a switch to play Mario odyssey and now my wife is hooked on breath of the wild. Happy wife and all that crap

If you have patience, this thing will make you some of the most tender steaks you'll ever eat. Also helps to invest in a vacuum sealer and a deep cooking vessel.

Nothing gimmicky per the pros.  Look up "Aso break in Wilson A2000" on You Tube.  This guy will show you the best way to do it in a 4 minute video.  It really involves just playing with it and beating the pocket with a mallet.  Never use a microwave or an oven!

If you ever need a quick break in Dick's has a machine that does it in about 30 minutes.  My daughter's glove crapped out at a tournament and luckily they were able to get her glove in the machine (they originally said overnight) and it came out really soft and she played a few hours later.  A bit expensive but was great.

I thought about going with one of these but went with a big green egg instead. I know they are more expensive but I don’t regret it at all. I wasn’t much of a cook before and I use it all the time for grilling and smoking. I have seen a few bit barrels and they seem to work well. If you are handy, there are a couple of websites out there that show you how to make and customize your own.

Just bought a 30" J. Tyler and Co. clock for above my fireplace. Just had a break-up, so I'm having to replace a bunch of decor and have no clue what I'm doing, but it's a pretty slick looking clock.

I bought some new running shoes, and two pairs of Bonobos chinos. These are probably the first pairs of pants I've purchased for myself in a decade. Love them.

I read Starting Strength a while back by Mark Rippetoe. Got a Valor Fitness BD-33 power rack and some bumper plates from Vulcan Fitness. Started the SS program the first of the year.

I decided last June that I finally needed to do something about being overweight instead of just saying "I need to do something". I lost 30 pounds by the end of the year just by using My Fitness Pal to track what I eat (going from 205 to 175, and I'm 5'8"). Looking forward to more progress this year with SS. My wife also got me the book Practical Programming for Strength Training so I am reading it now. I highly recommend both books for anyone looking to get into strength training.

that it turns out to be an investment I made in a relatively new but well-positioned restaurant/food supply company.

If not then by default it would probably be my contribution to the Ace tattoo/CFS fundraiser.

Mostly Bourbons  and whiskeys. Pappy, Stagg Jr,Weller 107, lots of others. I have more good booze than I can ever drink. Figure my friends can fight over it when I leave this world. Did bust open a JD rye last night, liked it alot.

I'm putting together a new sound system 1 piece at a time because my wife doesn't get it.  We had to have the fine china that we've used 2 times, but god forbid we enhance the TV that we watch every fucking day.

I'm preparing to make the switch to 4K/HDR.

My husband and I just got a new bed. We went from queen to king, and got one of those newfangled mattresses that come in a box. It's a latex foam hybrid. We also got an automatic base so we can raise the head and/or the foot of the bed. It's pretty fantastic.

By far my best purchase of 2017 was going from a queen-size bed to a king-size bed.  But man was it expensive.  $2000 for bed, $1400 for mattress, $600 for bedding & pillows...that stuff adds up.  I was $4k into it by the time we were done.  I guess I do spend 8 hours/day on it...or, with kids, more like 5-6 hours/day.
