OSU signing day whiffs

OSU singed 9 top-100 composite players and currently has the second highest rated class in the nation. It is an amazing class, but it was a strange signing day for the Buckeyes. 

Jackson Carman, the highest rated OT in the nation, signed with Clemson instead of the hometown team. Dabo employing negative recruiting may have played a hand.

Emory Jones follows Dan Mullen to Florida after slow playing the Bucks for months. He is a top 50 recruit and the 4th ranked dual-threat QB. 

Jaiden Woodbey flipped to FSU earlier this hour after an extremely strange announcement. He is a top 30 recruit and the 2nd ranked safety in the class. 

Brenton Cox, the 2nd ranked strongside defensive end, decommited two weeks back and has since signed with Georgia. 

Micah Parson the top ranked defensive end was trending towards the Bucks throughout the summer recommitted to PSU. He took some pictures with Eddie George and the NCAA doesn't approve, apparently.

But I just couldn't find the will power to knock those fu*kers after looking at who did sign with them today. *Word is that the Jones kid was basically told to kick rocks after not shutting down his recruitment a few months back. Looks like he ended up signing with Florida, so there may be some truth to this. I would expect Harbaugh to do the same thing. No player is bigger than the program. One day I hope we're at the level that we can lose 3 high caliber players and still hold on to a top 2 class.

I absolutely do not buy that last part. The kid is a stud and would be very good in Meyers system, which is essentially the same as Mullens. Moreover, they had to settle for flipping a 3* from Colo St. They have had better QB play than michigan pretty much this entire streak verse Michigan. Not having that edge is going to hurt them moving forward.

I wouldn't be surprised if Emory Jones decided to go to Florida because he looked at OSU's current QB depth:

  • RsFr. Dwayne Hasksins
  • RsSo. Joe Burrow
  • Fr. Tate Martell

Haskins pretty much has the inside track to replace JT Barrett next season, but if not it'll be a competition between 3 former 4-star QBs would all have more experience in the offense than Emory Jones.

If Emory Jones wanted early playing time, and a chance to run a similar offense than Florida makes the most sense. Originally, the rumor was that Jones was considering Alabama, but considering that still have Jalen Hurts for another 1-2 seasons, and a freshman Tagovailoa, Jones probably eliminated them for the same reasons.

The ol' backhanded praise of OSU is a thin act. OSU has an outstanding class, but Urban clearly wanted Emory and settled for a lesser QB. Emory made the choice to exit whether it was 2 months ago or yesterday. Just like UM wants Reese and they might need a contingency by Feb NSD if he wanders to UGA.

Osu fan here. I follow recruiting pretty closely. The first four hurt. We wanted them. But Parsons was a pass. The team decided to pass on him. The background story is that Meyer concluded that he had recruited too many bad seeds at Florida and lost control of the locker room (as many here and elsewhere have asserted). He determined not to make the same mistake at osu. They kicked the tires on Parson - but decided he was trouble and did not want him. Parson had named his dog Buckeye, so was pretty clear where he wanted to go. But he is a head case, and osu decided to pass. The self imposed sanction for the recruiting violation is a smoke screen, to make osu look good. Does anybody really believe that osu would pass on such a great recruit for such a trivial violation? He is psu's problem now.

1. Urban doesn't need a smokescreen to stop recruiting a player. It happens ALL the time. 2. Parsons camped at OSU and officialed in early Sept - this supposed "walk away" by OSU happened very late in the game. 3. Parsons has a well-earned reputation for flakiness/demands stretching back to his PSU decommit in April. Maybe Parsons raised the his asking price at the last moment of who knows what he did, but self reporting a violation with no name attached so Urban could stop recruiting is nonsense.

You come on here and spread this lie about a kid you don't even know.  OSU wanted Parsons, Meyer didn't make the decision to pass on him.  They messed up and had too pass. But don't try to paint a picture about a kid being a bad apple when he isn't.
