I admittedly know little about him. But sounds like he could go somewhere else and be the outright starter. So why transfer here with so much competition?
December 1st, 2017 at 11:25 PM ^
Well, they certainly know the playbook and our receivers' tendencies better than Patterson does.
December 1st, 2017 at 9:09 PM ^
They are not ahead of him. They are even with him. I believe he would have to sit out a year, but then it is a even competition. Harbaugh is tired of weak QB play and wants another Andrew Luck type to start destroying the big ten east. Osu insiders allready believe he is headed here.
If Michigan had a good QB the last two years they would have two big ten championships, especially last year. Harbaugh is here to win championships not worry about hurt feelings or entitlements.

And what if he does nothing with the coaching staff? Why should he change the staff when they just out-schemed the bejeezus out of OSU? Are they supposed to make championship players out of tuna fish? And you didn't see him yelling all over the sideline in the OSU game?
Sorry that you think he doesn't care as much...

Our offensive gameplan was great against OSU, but that can not be said over the course of the season. My biggest coaching qualm is someone on our staff had to of said something like this,
"Hey...let's run a 4 or 5 wide passing spread with all freshmen receivers even though our TEs >>>> WRs. Oh and we might not have any QB that can handle it...and even though our run blocking is >>>> pass blocking this passing spread is will be awesome, because I said so. And you remember that power run game we got good at last year?... yeah let's stop doing that."
Ulizio starting and continuing to play so long over JBB and Peters not being at least your #2 QB from the start of the year were 2 major coaching errors this season as well.
Our offense finally started somewhat clicking when *surprise* we went back to our power run game, put our more talented QB in, upgraded our RT, and scrapped most of the passing spread offense we spent the entire offseason installing.

The buckeye game was the only one I believe we consistently had wide open receivers. Most the season I saw many complaints on how none of our receivers can get open and that was answered with "freshmen WR always suck." I generally agree with that quote too. With the stupid zoomed in camera most games we rarely get to see how good receivers are at actually getting open however. But I remember way less open holes and open guys than you do.
I believe the execution sucked most of the year but the only game where we completely out schemed a defense was ohio, where the execution brutally led to our execution.
BP looking better was a function of him simply being better.

Patterson isn't going to transfer anywhere if he has to sit a year. He's a total mercenary, which is why he ended at Ole Miss. He's going pro after three years.

Can we please just acknowledge that?
Without him, there are a few more Ls instead of Ws.
John O'Korn is a needed backup in our bowl game, after that he is graduating and moving on. I've never seen him mail it in, in any snap in any game he played for us. The mistakes he made have been highlighted, analyzed, and complained about to a degree where most of us would have lost our minds under that kind of pressure.
We wish him every success, thank him for what he has contributed, and focus on the future.

"But hitting a few more open receivers would have won us more games."
This can be said about pretty much any quarterback ever.

Calling JOKs play mediocre is an insult to the word mediocre. He was flat out bad.
Hes a good Michigan Man just not a good QB.

Indiana twice and Purdue. That's literally it. I'm not very impressed by that.
I didn't knock his effort or character as a human being. I think he's a great guy and you can check my comment history for verification of that. All I'm saying is that we need better players and you can never have too many at that position.
Please reference Michigan's QBs post Henne. It's bleak, man.

one of the best ever at michigan; despite borges.

Okorn and Speight seem like great guys. They can stop over anytime they want, eat my food and drink my beer, but without being critical I am glad neither will be Michigan's QB next year. I wish they both would have performed better, but there is a reality.
Hope they have great lives and prosper. They are moving on and so should we. Everyone is going to be critical and that is the nature of the beast. It is only about football though and I hope they always realize that. I don't hate on them, but theybetter leave me some food though.
We are all on the same team, but after the frustration goes away, you realize it is just a game and you wish the team would have won more for them then anything else. I just want some real dispicable osu fans shut up and you guys know what i am talking about.
Good luck to Okorn and Speight. You guys may get criticized, but I don't think there is anyone who does'nt respect these guys.

Mrs. Speight posts on Twitter, and I guess Mrs. O'Korn is on the MGoBoard.

Say both Peters and McCaffrey go down with injury. Michigan would be fucked beyond repair.
December 1st, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
I'd be thrilled to get him and I don't care who's feelings it would hurt, if you're afraid to compete then that says something about you.
December 1st, 2017 at 8:49 PM ^
Same. A lot of people were wrong on here with O'Korn (he was not good). And it seems a lot were wrong about us looking at trying to getr Patterson. Patterson is good. I don't care who has their feelings hurt. If he wants to come here, I hope he can.

mentioned some players have retained attorneys to try and figure out how the students could be immediately eligible to play. Something to watch going forward.

I don't understand not going after him. Peters/Mcaffery are probably going to be good but what if somebody gets injured? What if Shea Patterson is better than both? We've only had one month of good qb play under Harbaugh in November 2015 so I'd rather have too many qbs than not enough qbs.

but big ten qb's are collectively bad.
December 2nd, 2017 at 7:41 AM ^
had been able to keep his play at the level it was at before Iowa 2016 (and also remain injury free), M would have played in two Big Ten CC games.
People can quibble about what "good" means, but October 2016 Speight level play from the QB position and Michigan would probably have made the playoffs last year and be a win away from the playoffs this ear.

Take every other big ten teams qbs 3 worst games off the table too if that's how you're going to judge it.

Speight had 4 great games last year and they all came against bad teams. The rest of the season he was average. An unspectacular quarterback who saved his mistakes for the biggest games of the year.
But with every passing day the legend of Wilton Speight grows because of Brian. By the end of next year we will be talking about him like he was Peyton Manning.
