1-7 vs top 10 teams

Get it together. Pathetic considering our level of recruiting.

Bc when Harbaugh has left prior jobs it was running away from failure, and was not in any way being one of the most sought after coaches in the nation. SF has proved to be a tire fire. Too conservative is a legitimate complaint, but his mental toughness or dedication?

I don't get the too conservative complaint either. The play calling was not conservative, even when Peter's got hurt he was calling passes to attack Wisconsin defense. The problem was the 3 big drops after Peter's left.

Another season without a signature win? People need to get a grip and think about what they say after a lose. He beat a Florida was a division champ in 15 with NFL guys all over the defense. Moreover they felt disrespected because all the talk was on peppers. Michigan beat them worse than Alabama did the game before. They also beat an undefeated nw that was a top 15 team at the time and finish 10-3. Last year they beat 3 teams that were division champs. 2 finished top 10 ten and the third finished 17th. But not a signature win in the group? GTFO.

At some point it's on the players. Is getting a scholarship and just suiting up for UM good enough? Where's the pride and passion? I want guys who are relentless at wanting to be the very best. I watched that Miami U documentary a few years back and I'll never forget Ed Reeds speech at halftime to his teammates. Basically they were winning and he was pissed they weren't kicking more ass. We need an Ed Reed. Those Miami teams were dominant because of athleticism, but mainly attitude.

but it is not at present.  Very bad QB luck forcing us to play the worst Michigan QB ever -- and yes, I remember Sheridan/Threat.  JOK will never QB any team to beat a better than .500 football team.

Our offensive coaching staff is the pit of misery. All the $$$ spent in on this offensive staff and the results have been atrocious. Drevno leaves much to be desired as an offensive line coach. Here we are three years in and the offensive line still cannot pickup simple stunts or twists. Competence is not a lot to ask for.

Not an All-Big player on this offense is to blame.  I thought this crew would be good in developing players but boy was I wrong. Looks like the Lloyd Carr years with a one year exception.

...and YES, I'm still going, but...my enthusiasm for next Saturday's game has been, well...tempered somewhat. To say the least. I hate to say this, but I kinda feel a little like I did way back in 2009 the week of The Game.

Surprise me, Jim. Surprise us all. Please?

than any teams in M Football History: 1879-2004–(125 years) 10 teams/seasons with 5 or more losses 2005-2017 7 teams with five or more losses. 8 if we lose the next two in 2017 Michigan historically has had fans who backed the winningest college football teams ever. Sadly, those tradition-rich winners are just distant memories right now.....

There have been some rough seasons in there for sure. Maybe the roughest ever, but:

11 wins in 2006
9 wins in 2007
11 wins in 2011
10 wins in 2014
10 wins in 2015

Problem is no Big Ten titles and no BCS/playoff appearances. And losing to OSU. I think if we beat OSU last year and make the playoff, things feel completely different. But we didn’t.

..turns out the Gators would lose to Cass Tech this year

not good enough yet. The OL is crucial to this offensive scheme and it simply hasn't been a top unit for many years. Plus, QB play is crucial - Speight was not up to the task last year in big games and JOK isn't even close. If you cannot get a meaningful lead or threaten to score late in a game, you won't win big games.

Reader71, mentioned something insightful regarding the OL, and I think it has an extension to the team as a whole. Michigan's OL has been pretty average for quite a long time now, and hasn't had many of the dominant All American types it used to have. What has been lost is the younger players watching/being around the upperclassmen and learning what it takes to be at an elite level. The coaches can only be around but so much; but your teammates are around all of the time. And when the players that know/show what it takes to be at that All-American level are no longer around, its has quite an effect. I think winning big games is the same way. This team, for many years now, seems to have no idea what it is like to win a big game, and underperform constantly. Back when John Cooper was coach of OSU, they almost always were ranked ahead of Michigan, and were favored in the game. But Michigan's players knew what it took to win the game, expected to win the game, and played their best game of the season every year. For years, this team has failed to do that. Michigan is well past the 1 or 2 bad seasons, and now losing in big games seems to be ingrained. A tough habit to break. Finally, I don't think this is a recruiting phenomena. Michigan, for now, still out-recruits Wisconsin and Iowa. To me this seems to be more of a player development, culture, psychological, and mentorship problem. As Brian said towards the end of the Hoke era, the problem wasn't with the recruiting, it was after the players arrived. I just hope that Harbaugh can correct this over time.

Yeah, it's disappointing, but let's all bitch and moan instead of realizing we returned the fewest starters of any power 5 school, have had two QBs, multiple receivers (who were young to begin with), our RG and LT from last year, multiple RBs, top CB, and several other players have played hurt.  We also can't count on anything approaching objective officiating, which while bad both ways always seems to tilt against U of M more.  Do I think certain things could be coached better?  Sure, but piling on with emotional bullshit that doesn't factor in the whole picture is pointless.
