Michigan Vs. Florida: Coaching Snowflakes

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This shall be the thread for your thoughts on the coaching in our game vs. Florida

Dude, I don't know how connected you really are with Higdon, but I like the guy and you are reflecting really, really badly on him with your pretty rude griping about the coaches.

It's reasonably serious to accuse the coaches of playing politics, and everyone in the world knows that you are complaining that Higdon didn't get more carries. Nevermind that the RBs all played fabulously well, or that surprise second-stringer Isaac was Michigan's best offensive player. You're suggesting that the coaches are deliberately hurting their ability to win by not playing Higdon. Or O'Korn, but you're a pretty smart guy about football and consequently I have strong suspicions that your beef about O'Korn is just an excuse to complain about the coaches.

I really hope you aren't reflecting Higdon's own feelings on this. There's a good chance you aren't, but then, you look like a stereotypical bad hockey/soccer dad that's mad at everybody. I assume Higdon is happy to have contributed and scored and happy that the team won.

Adding to this: Michigan won the game pretty cleanly. Have reasonable expectations about how much they'll win by. A pretty smart guy had a good set of expectations for the game and wrote this:

Michigan wins this game and controls it from the start. Florida will be athletic and will scrap. They will bait fights and hit late. But they don't have what Michigan has in uniform...or on the sideline with headsets on.

Michigan 31 Florida 17

That was you, two days ago.

Another smart, quality poster wrote this:

Michigan is tough to beat in September and I like the coaching matchup in Michigan favor.

Michigan 30 Florida 20

That was you, last week.

I'm not being sarcastic with the complimentary adjectives, by the way. You are usually a good poster and contributor. But when you vent about what you perceive to be unfair treatment of Karan Higdon, you debase yourself.

I get it, you root for the guy, and more than the average fan. It's ok to be frustrated that he didn't get more opportunity (though I think the distribution was fair). But what you suggest as the cause is inappropriate. Perhaps avoid venting in such a public forum after a game?

I get it man. You know Karan and want to see him succeed but you're going a little overboard here. And Karan is not without criticism. On 3rd down of the first O'korn drive he had a delayed counter handoff with half the field open and he cut right back into the defense for a loss. He makes mistakes to. I love the way he runs and want to see him get more chances but to play the politics card is cheap.

Speight certainly didn't win any fans today, but this season is going to rise and fall with him.  O'Korn isn't up to it, Peters doesn't seem ready.  We'll see what McAffrey has going next year.

This year is Speight.  Hopefully he gets it figured out in the next couple games.

What part of four - 4 - pick sixes in his last two regular season games don't you understand?  Not to mention all of the inaccurate throws.  He's still apparently the best option right now, but dude, he's not God's gift.  At least he hasn't shown it yet.

EDIT:  sorry MJ - misdirected toward you.

In traditional sets. Evans in spread sets. Give OKorn a real shot to play. Call the game with some damn offensive flow....like when a kid scores in the red zone and the line blocks their ass off....go right back to that exact same formation when you get the ball back on the ensuing kickoff fumble. Ridiculous. Also, the overthrows from Speight have got to be accounted for. This is a blowout if he has any semblance of touch. If he cannot throw with touch. Play a kid that can. The Defense was elite and dominant and is dare I say.....B1G 10 fast!!!!

Fan snowflake - I hope that Michigan fan who was sitting next to that idiot Florida fan doing the gator chomp in his face after the second interception enjoyed the sweet retribution.

Not sure I like the O'Korn series. Seems like the Morris stuff from last year. If he's good enough to play, give him the full play book. Seems like they have a very limited package for him. I thought the staff did an outstanding job finding ways to paper over the pass pro issues. Lots of pulls, traps, and chips by the TEs and RBs before they went out for routes.

I thought Greg had a tough challenge and I am encouraged by the second half runs that he is going to improve this OL. Don Brown is the man, but I have to give props to Frey and Pep for dealing with such a young team. The receivers have some work to do but they definitely performed at a high level today for freshmen.

Don Brown is just awesome. Can't believe no big program picked him up over the years.

Coaches saw some stuff and really attacked it.  I think we played kind of cautiously once we had the lead because our defense was so dominant.  Not a huge fan of that style and think an inability to land a kill shot has been the big thing in most of our Harbaugh losses.

Not sure about the Speight/O'Korn thing.
