OT: Unpopular opinions and guilty pleasures, Music edition.

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

From past music topics on the blog, it's clear the mgocommunity has good taste in music. Now I want to talk about your not too popular opinions on music. Guilty pleasures edition, and those artists you like but bury in your playlists and don't necessarily make public. I'll start.

I like earlier Radiohead when they embraced melody and traditional song construction more than current Radiohead.

I love the first Boston album.

I dismiss Journey except when any of several songs pop up.

Come on Eileen is awesome.

Have at it.

Saw chance at Bonnaroo this year and he definitely got mixed reviews on his show. I thought the show was amazing overall, but a lot of people hated the brief periods where he got a little preachy. I'm not religious in any way, but I didn't let that part of his show ruin it for me. I have a lot of respect for him.

PJ may be overrated, but Stone Gossard is a god. listen to his work on YouTube called the Goss man project. he basically wrote the album Ten by himself (well, with the drummer). Vedder just lucked his way into one of the best albums of all time on a silver platter.

Never really liked country and didn't pay much attention to Johnny Cash until seeing Walk the Line. Something struck me and now I like to play his songs off Spotify. Like al the greats, he could do a lot with a little. He didn't need a huge band, effects, etc to fill up the sound. This is coming from somebody who grew up on AC/DC, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, etc.

or early nineties. 80s music was great. Everything after pretty much sucks and has denigrated to the point of swearing, misogyny, and blatent references to sex.

I don't care for music.  Doesn't bother me when it's on but I don't listen to it unless someone else plays something.  Haven't bought a CD since ~1995.

John Fogerty turns whole sentences into single words. His lyrics are like hashtags. There i said it. #Iwannanoavyouevaseentharain.

I put it in the other thread, but I think Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" is way overrated.

Also, I used to think the Beach Boys were terrible because when I was growing up they had a song in a Sunkist commercial and then their big hit was "Kokomo." Much, much, later I heard some of their other music and realized how good they were.

Everyone likes the first Boston album. It's pure, fat, Gibson warm-toned analog genius. Come On Eileen is an acceptable guilty pleasure. I don't like Journey. I think AC/DC is very overrated. The Eagles should never have shitcanned Don Felder. Noel Gallagher is a genius, and Liam knows it and can't stand it. If The Police aren't the best power trio of all time, they are in the top 3. I will hear your arguments regarding Rush and Cream, but GTFO of here with Green Day and Nirvana. Stone Gossard and Mike McCready are the Whitaker and Trammell of guitar. Roth over Hagar. I'm really tired of hearing the same couple Heart, Joan Jett, and Pat Benetar songs played over and over. U2 has not been good for a while. Aerosmith has some good tunes but also some of the dumbest songs of all time. Glen Campbell is awesome. I like The Beach Boys.
