2017 Breakout players

Submitted by Duval Wolverine on

With less than 60 days left before Michigan football is back, who do you think will be a standout player this season that comes out of nowhere?  Chesson was one I considered in 2015, especially towards the end of the year, and K. Hill last year.

I say the breakout player on offense will be Bunting and Keith Washington on defense.

I'm not wishing this on him by any means but I don't think he'll ever be a solid contriibutor at Michigan. I don't think he's very good after what we have seen before. I've been wrong 1 or 2 times before and I hope he proves me wrong.

Thinking a little outside the box here:

Defense: Carlo Kemp- Gary is the starter but hes a max effort guy, Kemp is going to give him a break ALOT to keep Gary fresh for the big downs. Practice buzz has been positive, also think he can play a little on the weakside if need be.

Defense again: Jordan Glasgow, name says it all. Has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Can rotate in at S or spell Hudson at VIPER. Will play alot.

Offense: Nobody, I think the O is going to have a fine year but its going to take time. Speights numbers will be down with the new receivers, running back numbers will be up but carries still split between 4-5 guys. Receivers/Tight Ends/H Backs will all be splitting the yards as well. I could see 4-5 guys all around 400 yards receiving which isnt really a "breakout" to me

On offensive line, I have high hopes that at least two of the new offensive linemen will exceed expectations. I think that Runyan and Kugler will both hold off the competition and that we won't be disappointed. On defensive line I'm going with Mone. While I think many are hoping he just doesn't get hurt, I'm hopeful we'll see why Harbaugh thought he was the third best player on the team going into 2015 training camp.

Offense - Onwenu is the go-too guy for delivering the big push for those tough yards in the 4th quarter that we so sorely needed last year. Evans will get a lot of glory in 2017 running behind big MIke. Defense - Bush being delivered as a blitzing missile.

on defense I think metellus becomes a stud this year and hopefully one of the freshman linebackers suprises. as for offense, I hoping for big things from the bunting/tjw combo at TE and wouldn't mind being surprised if kareem steps up more than his current projection for this year.

Hype but I think Higdon could be really good. Him and Evans both are extremely dynamic and I love the potential of what I think could be 2 1,000yd rushers. Only question to me is whether they get enough touches.

1. You took that way too seriously.

2. Everyone is entitled to an opinion...this is a blog/message board.

3. Everyone's opinion is entitiled to be questioned, including my own...this is a blog/message board.

What the heck are you talking about and why are you so sensitive because I asked if we're really going to do this? I could've even been talking about the mispelled name (which I wasn't)...but how was any of that enough for you to jump in trying to be message board hero?

I think there are going to be a ton of breakout players because we lost the entire team.

IMO, there will be guys who breakout on a national level...like Chris Evans. And there will be guys who'll be All-B1G like Devin Bush.

This is one of those odd years where you could and should name 10 guys and there will still be more.

It's why I love this team...because if you're a hardcore fan, you know that just because these guys coming in aren't household names, doesn't necessarily mean we're in trouble. In some cases we may be even BETTER. The casual fans and talking heads will say we were "gutted." For once, that's not true at all.

And it's not full of inexperience either...a lot of these guys played, just not enough to register on the radar of the casual fan. But someone like Devin Bush or Lavert Hill isn't coming into this thing with only mop-up snaps.Same with the TEs or Crawford or Winovich.

Anyone heard anything about Mone lately?

He's my breakout on defense. All the attention on our freak edge rushers and quick-twitch Hurst. Mone is sitting back eating everyone's dinner. Mone will be a freak this year.

Offense: I'm going with Speight. He had an excellent first year, and I think Harbaugh has him primed for a breakout year. He will lead the B1G in passing TDs, yards, and completion %. He then gets drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft.

Seems like the board is still torn between Speight and Peters. I've got confidence Harbaugh will make the right choice. It's a difficult choice to make especially considering the opponent. Personally I'd rather see Peters in there but not sure if Florida is the first game you want to toss him in. Then again, we've seen what Speight does in big games... What to do, what to do.

David Long will be exciting after a year in the system.  Breaking out as a freshman is tough, but Chris Evans was terrific.   Maybe Tarik Black and DPJ, but Kekoa as well with his year of experience and talent.

Nobody is really talking about him but I think there's a chance he gets significant reps in the slot and becomes a reliable, go-to target.
