This really seems like a panic move by the Pacers. I get that he's leaving, but this deal could've been made at any time. I would've at least waited to see if Boston got a bit desperate if they don't land Gordon Hayward. Speaking of Boston, if this was all it took to get George, it's pretty strange they didn't make an offer to trump this, even at the risk of it being a one-year rental.

About any time. When free agency opens, teams are wheeling and dealing, that is when your opportunity is the highest.

If anything, the longer the Pacers waited, the worse off they would have been. As time went on, other organizations would realize the Pacers have no other options but to get rid of George for a bag of balls.

They needed to make this move ASAP. Not only for the value, but to also avoid the circus if George would have stayed with the Pacers. That would have been horrible for the locker room.

In general that's true, but in this context it not that cut and dry. My point was that this deal or something similar would've always been there. OKC wasn't going to turn around in three weeks and say "no Oladipo and Sabonis is too rich for our blood." If this is the baseline, waiting isn't a major risk.

The imbalance between the two conferences is getting pretty extreme.  Griffin staying LA, Paul to Houston, Butler to Minny and George to OKC.  I know LeBron is a tough out for any team, but it really does seem like the East teams are just going to wait a year or two and then hope he slows down, which makes an already-predictable season even more boring.

That said, great trade by OKC.  Oladipo and Sabonis are fine players, but George is an All-NBA caliber player, even for a 1-year rental.

Has always been pretty shitty.

Maybe that is just my perception, but for the last decade it has just felt the best teams in the West trump everything the East has.

The East gets about 2-3 teams into the playoffs with a sub or .500 record, and the West rarely has that happen.

I like this for OKC if they resign Collison and Taj Gibson.

They need a spot up shooter and they'll be pretty well rounded.

They're not going to be a top 3 team, but they should go get Korver from the Cavs or someone who can space the floor and knock down shots from a wing position.

Taj Gibson has carved out an NBA career, and a pretty solid one at that.

He was pretty good at USC, but he never screamed good NBA player to me. I draw a lot of paralells with him and Boozer. They were both good college players, but I did not think they would stick in the league.

You see Blake Griffin got 5 years 174 million dollars?!?!?! My goodness that's a ton of money to shell out to a guy that hasn't done much imo.

What difference does it make? No one out of the West is getting past GS for the next few years at least.

I don't follow the Xs and Os of basketball but if I were Paul George, I would've gone somewhere in the East. Take my chances against Cleveland's one man show in the ECF and then even if you run into the Golden State buzzsaw in the Finals, at least you've made the Finals.

As long as Curry, KD and Green stay together, that team is capable of winning multiple titles in a row.

Has an NBA team ever fucked up as hard as the Oklahoma City Thunder?

I mean they had James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Serge Ibaka yet they never won a championship partly because they let go of Harden right before he became an MVP caliber player. Or maybe he already had the skill and they just utilized it incorrectly.

They had 3 MVP caliber players and at the time one of the best Defensive players yet couldnt win and ended up losing 3 of those 4. SMH
