OT: What are you listening to?
I'm always in the mood to find new music. I've recently been listening to Portishead and the Glass Animals.
All of this with a healthy dose of Radiohead and Kendrick Lamar makes for a truly wonderful medley of sounds going into my Memorial Day weekend
Edit: Someone asked for genres so I'll do my best here.
Portishead: trip-hop (psychedelic electronic rock stuff)
Glass Animals: alternative indie rock
Kendrick Lamar: hip-hop/rap
Radiohead: pick a genre other than country and they've dabbled in it
Tropical House playlist on Spotify
Nice. I was listening to Chill Nation channel on YouTube yesterday and they post lots of good tropical house type stuff.
Cool I'll check that out.
Lots of good music I've found through them.
Lauv - Breathe
Ghost Loft - So High
Vallis Alps - East
Koda - Staying
Mako - Smoke Filled Room
Xuitcasecity - Stay the Night
Harloe - All In My Feelings
YouTube Channels:
Magic Music
Koala Kontrol
Mistify
This is their best song:
Old school Do or Die
Pearl Jam: Ten (entire album)
Metallica: Ride The Lightning (entire album)
That entire album was made for the purpose of driving fast with your windows down and the volume up
Gojira - Magma
The Shrine - Bless Off
Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg
I like these threads, but would people mind a little context to their choices? I'll google these, but if it turns out they are all Judaic altRock I'm probably not interested. Thanks in advance.
Gojira - Heavy Metal
The Shrine - Punk meets Black Sabbath
Jake Bugg - Folk Rock meets British invasion
Jake Bugg's first album is amazing
I looked up Gojira and then stopped since it was not my style. Now that I see your description, i added jake bugg to my spotify and so far I enjoy it as a different change of pace from my normal weird blend of altcountry, folksy, gangsta rap mix.
The Movement Festival at Hart Plaza will be doing sound checks this afternoon, so I have a lot of bass to look forward to.
In the meantime, I'm listening to the new CD of Dan Fogelberg's Carnegie Hall concert from 1979 and an Avett Brothers playlist.
So much good stuff now...
New Roger Waters songs being released in advance of his new album which drops in early June; new Steven Wilsons songs in advance of his August album...also been listening to quite a bit of Aesop Rock, JJ Grey & Mofro, and Jonathan Coulton.
How are the Waters' tracks? ..and don't be too biased pinkfloyd2000...
Well, I'm gonna be biased -- can't help it. ;-)
I love em. Some are a bit derivative of past Floyd songs ("Smell the Roses," for one, which is basically "Have A Cigar" meets "Dogs,"), but hell, I didn't mind.
"The Last Refugee" is truly outstanding; a nice, moving video was made for it, as well.
Yeah, I've seen Roger quite a few times since his return to the live circuit in 1999, and those Wall shows, wow...tough to top that. Quite an experience. Saw David Gilmour live for the first time since 1994 (with Floyd then) in April 2016 in Chicago, and it was mindblowing -- for different reasons, of course. Gilmour's last album was solid; maybe lacking a tad lyrically, of course, but musically, very, very good, even if I do prefer his previous release, 'On An Island' a bit more.
But yes, Roger should put on a great show for ya on this tour; I saw a preview video from his rehearsal show in New Jersey, and I think we're all in for a nice treat.
No spoilers here, but let's just say that they pull off some really, really neat tricks in terms of staging and effects...it was truly a fantastic show in Louisville last night.
I know that Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking wasn't super well received, but that and Amused to Death are two fantastic albums that I will throw on at least every two months.
Clapton did some great guitar work on Pros and Cons -- especially on "Sexual Revolution". I saw Waters on that tour (twice) when he performed the album in its entirety.
My problem w/ later Waters solo work is that he got waaay too preachy in the lyrics at the expense of some of the musicality.
No question about it!
Love classic Floyd, not a huge fan of Water's solo stuff. As stated below, too preachy for my taste. I love Water's songwriting, but man, his vocals are rough if just him singing for a whole album. I loved Water's and Gilmour woking together. A quote I heard that I absolutely agree with, "Water's makes you think, Gilmour makes you like it."
Indeed, the vocals are rough, but his songwriting is fantastic. Totally reminds me of Dylan.
And I don't have an answer. I'm a relative noob to JJ Grey; I saw a live show two summers ago and LOVED IT, and went into it basically not knowing (1) who the hell he was, or (2) even having heard ANY of his songs. Since then, I've kinda started from the beginning, and am working my way through the catalog.
I have a steady diet of Eddie Money, Huey Lewis and the News, and other 80's music that I am jamming to.
