Taking a RB in the top 10 is a waste of a pick, not matter how good they are. Bottom line, you don't NEED a great RB to win conistently in the NFL, and as you point out, quality RBs can be had much lower.

huh?
He got better last season before he got hurt.
Stats
2015: 641 rushing yards for 3.5 ypa and 192 recieving yards. Zero TDs
2016: 997 rushing yards (13 games) for 3.9 ypa and 419 recieving yards. 12 total TDs.
Maybe Fournette pans out in Jacksonville, but I'd NEVER draft a RB in the first round without having a great OL to lead the way for him.
Was a once in generation talent that is an exception. There's one RB worth a top 5 pick every like ten years.
This can't be true just based on the numbers alone. There is usually a very good running back in the NFL at any given time so what you're saying doesn't make sense. So we'll have to agree to disagree.
Marginal cost, as stated just above.
during the Sanders era?
Maybe. But Elliott was a beast in college in a way that was probably magnified running behind Dallas's line, but saying he'd be "just a guy" might be a bit underselling him.
That's why I'm watching NFL Network.
Sigh. I remember when Ross cancelled his visit to Michigan because Hoke said he was too small for WR and insisted he play CB.
Happy we took Stribling as a replacement, but it speaks on how in over his head Hoke was on offense.
Clearly Mel's hair gel has seeped into his brain.
Garrett, Fournette and McCaffrey are really the only correct picks.
Patrick Mahomes? My gawd. You talk about poor mechanics and not playing in an NFL offense.
I agree. He has work to do, but if you recall Andy Reid was Brett Favre's qb coach when GB won the SB. He's had success with reckless abandon quarterbacks. Plus he'll have a few years to develop.

is actualy really good at processing info quickly. He is really good and can make throws in all platforms.
A lot of teams have Mahomes as their top QB of the draft. Comparision was Brett Favre and Matt Stafford which sounds about right to me
Plenty of guys can throw hard/far...
I'm not doubting the kid. I'm doubting the kid at #10. My gawd, there's a huge difference.
Mocking me is cute, but you just used "stud" - which, is weird.

Yeah, I'm not so worried about the NFL offense thing because a lot of teams are adapting to the shotgun, multiple WR formations you see in college. So guys aren't going to be totally taken aback by it like perhaps they were 10-15 years ago because the terminology and play-calling are becoming more ubiquitous. But Mahomes has fundamental issues with his mechanics that, I guess, the Chiefs feel they can iron out while Alex Smith runs the show. This still feels like a bad pick considering Mahomes was probably going to be available a round later.

The Browns wanted him at 12 overall. Several teams have him as the top QB in the draft. He wasn't ever going to make it to 2nd round at all.
if you pass on picking a Texas Tech QB.
The Chiefs just told the Bears: "Hold my beer".
This is the worst QB class I can remember. Lolz.
"The Chiefs hate 1st round picks, apparently" - TVH
Agreed...but because it's the NFL and every team can't even find a quality QB...it's the most valued position in sports.
If Watson goes here to Cleveland...that'll be 3 in the top 12 when none of them are ready to play right now and all are 2nd round type talents that should sit 2-3 years before playing in a game.
The 2013 class headlines by EJ Manuel, Geno Smith, and Matt Barkley would give this one a run for its money.
Guys with big arms and accuracy issues litter the NFL trash heap. He might be the exception, but this feels like a huge reach.
Trading down to desperate teams who want a QB is the best way to build a franchise. Yikes.
Kid does have a cannon, but that's about it.
Such a reach.
A 2nd round QB going #10.
Rich Gannon?
Edit: Swear Mr. Y typed gannon instead of cannon. Now I just look dumb.
Edit2: There it is! Gannon in the subject line. I'm not as dumb as I thought.

You must've been typing as I was editing...
I caught it...but I'm cracking open another beer and spelling and grammar is about to get worse and worse.
"Arm talent"
Watson to Cleveland?
That might make too much sense.
lol traded it.
I think McCaffrey will be fine in the NFL, but yeah, him at #8 seems like a reach.
But he's a 4 down player.
I doubt he'll be an elite RB.
But if peak Sproles was in this draft...where does he go?
The Panthers have no speed back, they have no slot WR (they use Greg Olsen), and they lost Ginn so they have no returner.
It may be more of how much he can impact the team versus is he is a better football player than guys taken after him. He's got a lot of value for the Panthers.
I don't know if he is a 4-down back because he'll be expected to block, and I honestly don't know how good he is at that role. And Sproles was drafted in the 4th round and never had more than 100 carries in a season (though he had some great receiving years in there). If you spent a top-10 pick with that as your ceiling, that seems like a wasted pick.
If Peppers played offense his entire college career...you very well may have him in that spot.
You can't compare them when Jabrill's biggest knock is he doesn't have a natural position and people haven't really seen him play safety and he's too small to play LB.
On the other hand, McCaffrey didn't even work out as a RB because he had so much film at one position.
But 2" taller...and no domestic "issue" lingering. All pro drafts LOVE measurables...and the NFL hates domestic issues.
Just is what it is...
The NFL doesn't give a shit about domestic violence. It's the height that's the problem.
