Najee Harris Update Part 31482375098 - Tua is Smart, Wasn't Supposed to Leak, Doesn't Know Anything

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

The saga continues...

“I’ll just say Tua is a smart kid and leave it like that,” the source said. As we were talking, the report broke about Tagovailoa saying the two were on the same flight. That’s when things got interesting. “He (Tua) wasn’t supposed to leak that out yet,” the source said. “Tua doesn’t know anything.”

The source says he wasn't supposed to leak it out "yet," so I'm still pessimistic.

That said, who knows?

I think the "Tua is smart" thing is that Tua's putting public pressure on Harris. He says Harris is flying with him, so now Harris is letting people down - including him - if he goes elsewhere. It's like saying, "Yeah, my wife and I will come to the party" when you know she doesn't want to. It's a lame move, but it puts pressure on the other person not to make you look like an idiot.

Not necessarily. You think you're sold on Bama, then you're not so sure and finally decide on Michigan. You still love Bama and the recruits/coaches/women you've met and built relationships with at Bama. You're still pretty solid in your decision. Now one of the dudes you're closest to is sticking his neck out there and it's now up to you to either let it get lopped off or not. You're 18, you feel bad, and emotions have a last chance to overcome your head.

Yeah, but isn't his flight booked? I mean, sure he could change his mind, but wouldn't you assume he is packed and has his ticket ready to go Sunday? I still think it's Bama. The only sliver of hope I see for the good guys is that he is keeping this quiet so he doesn't get beat up by Bama fans and recruits prior to being on campus. That's a very small but possible chance in my opinion.

or not?

Alternatively, if he knows he has decided, but doesn't know which way, it's a chance to put pressure on him to choose Bama.

If he knows he's chosen Michigan, it's a way to put a little pressure on him to change his mind.

If he knows he's chosen Bama, it's a slip. It would be a pretty stupid mistake given that he knows how Harris wants his decision to be announced. Either that or he's afraid he's wavering and is trying to lock him in.

That Tua is smart becuase the majority of the players are all taking the same flight out to ATL(?) and then they are all catching other flights from there. So yes, they are both on the same plane, but may have different final destinations.

Read the comment above mine from Brown Bear. That seems about right for the positive spin.

I thought of the same thing. There's a chance Najee is on the same flight as Tua (SAT to ATL) but then connecting to DTW. At least, that's what I'm hoping for!

A quick Delta search shows there are two direct flights from SAT to DTW on Sunday. One seems inconveniently early (7:05a) and the other seems inconveniently late (5:30p getting in at 9:30p). The remaining options all transfer via ATL. Of course there's a reasonable chance he could be flying a different carrier.

as our board showed a major feakout over this COULD lead to bad behavior and push him to Alabama.  Makes me think Tua is nervous and doesn't know anything but who really knows. It will all play out in time. .

edit: we freaked out but I didn't see an bad behavior.

No shots at the OP - this is probably worthy of posting - but man, this is the stupidest recruiting report/update I've maybe ever seen. The reporter repeats what his "source" tells him. Then he acknowledges that it is contradictory and can be read two different ways (essentially stating that, without further information, it is meaningless). Then he does no follow up with said "source" to ascertain which of the two meanings he meant to imply. So, basically, this "source" is inarticulate and the reporter is either too dumb or lazy to get to the bottom of his own report.

Thanks SEC Country!

I don't even understand this quote. This magic "source" implies Tua knows and spilled the beans then at the ends says he doesn't know anything. What the fuck is he saying? And think of this. How does this shit dick have a source when recruiting insiders from both sides can't get comments like this from Harris or his inner cirlce. Color me skeptical.

The fact that the kid hasn't and won't say anything leads to crazy speculation and interest. Both Scout sites, Michigan and Alabama are taking advantage of this and pushing sells like crazy. I bet they have both increased membership over the past week. Neither is giving any guarantees, thus they can't be critized for erroneous reports. We are getting played, because only the kid and his family really know.

This whole flight thing can go one of 2 ways:

1. He could be going to Bama and catching a flight with his buddy and future QB

2. He could be giving Tua the Lebron/D Wade treatment. Fly back to Birmingham with this friend so he can break the news to him on the flight. Kick it with him one last time then say goodbye to him at the airport before he flies to DTW.

I'm hoping for the latter

I enjoy getting good players and Najee is the best in the country at his position. That said, it's fun to go back and watch Chris Evans make that in and out move on FSU's safety and then beat the other safety to the end zone. He's good. And yes, he should have gotten the bulk of the carries this year even if he can't break a tackle yet.

Reports out of San Antonio are that at the food court during breakfast this morning he passed right by the Cranberry juice (Alabama colors?) and went straight to the yellow OJ.  It's happening.

I hope he comes, he is clearly a very talented kid, but we have many fine recruits. If he passes on a full ride to Michigan, a likely starting rotation spot, an NFL coach, and, a Michigan degree, well, he just doesn't want to be here.

Michigan football will move on as it has for a long time. Those who stay will be champions.

I will believe when Sam Webb gets a gut feeling or he shows up to class. Until then, I think he's Bama bound, though it's just my gut feeling, which doesn't really mean anything.
