Positive Najee Harris Rumors from Michigan/USC 247 Board
Hello folks,
Someone named Free Kobe, who has allegedly been info-solid since just after Pete Carroll's time at USC, says that signs favor Michigan, especially insofar as they don't look good for other teams:
- That cal was closer than people realize due to a cal coach that has known family forever
- Mom wants no part of her boy in the Deep South
- Family wants him to get away from Nocal
- USC and Michigan coaches have done a great job of recruiting him including having chance airport meetings with him
- USC coach thinks he can pull both Carr and Harris but Carr 7on7 coach says no way in hell would Carr stick with USC in that scenario
- Alabama returns everybody and Harris sees himself as three and out
- He is better than anyone Michigan has now and Michigan will give him the ball 30 times a game
- Been hearing Michigan for almost three weeks
- Take it for what it's worth.

At long last, something to replace all the glory and tradition of the Greater Elk Grove Lawn Darts Championship. Truck Driving like in that GIF would definitely be an upgrade and I am not ashamed to admit that I would watch it too. An elimination tournament would be great...or potentially very Mad Max. No, that would be awesome too.

Not the optimism we've heard from them before.

And what might those reasons be?
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:29 PM ^
Like insider-y opinions or just the general opinion that we can't have nice things

playing for and almost certainly winning a national championship, high likelihood of being drafted in the first round, and a likely invitation to New York for the Heisman trophy. Even if highly rated RBs aren't actually good (cough Trent Richardson cough), at Bama they'll run between holes so large and rack up so many yards, no one will know how good they actually are until they get to the NFL anyway.
January 5th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
Okay, will see how many yards are racked up against Clemson and if they actually win the championship. I do not think so IMO.

CB Filaga, is one coming for Najee? I think this would be a clear indicator that Isaac and Davis will leave, but really can't complain about Harris/Evans/Higdon.

which was well after the article you linked.

Wiltfong saying Filiaga trending to Oklahoma. Is this new, or is this from yesterday? I think I read last night that Wiltfong has changed his mind, and that we look like we're in good shape.
I hope Wiltfong didn't reverse course AGAIN.
And I thought last years class couldn't get any more stressful.
Edit: Got the answer already. Still good news. Needs to stay good news.

If we get Harris and this is the intention of the coaching staff, then goodbye Samuels and probably one or two RBs already on the roster.
I'm a bit skeptical that Harbaugh or anybody else on the staff is promising Harris any such thing, though—it would seem to run counter to the entire coaching philosophy of Harbaugh, which is that every minute of playing time has to be earned with actual performance. Nothing is promised in advance.

If Day 1 is the opening game of the season and Harris has proved in practice that he's by far the best back, OK.
If Day 1 is the first day of spring practice, I don't see Harbaugh and Wheatley telling him he's already the primary back.

no way he was promised anything. The message must have been: if you earn it, and if it's best for the team, we will feed you the ball 30 times per game.
January 2nd, 2017 at 2:14 PM ^
but NO coach promises a recruit playing time from day one. You have to compete, and the coach will go with the player who gives the team the best chance to win. This goes for all coaches, but none moreso than Jim "meritocracy" Harbaugh.

Not to mention that would freeze out Evans from any real playing tiome, which is not happening.
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:14 PM ^
I don't know if Chris Evans has great hands but I'd love to see that quickness out in space as a slot WR if Walker is the real deal and we get Harris.
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:38 PM ^
I think Evans could be great as a Curtis Samuels guy in our offense. Slot, wide out, come in to the backfield to get carries, etc. I think he's got that skill set
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
Yes. His precise cuts to eliminate the LB suggest he'd be a good route runner. Versatility is good regardless of other RB options as we'll probably go by committe. Opens up the play calling. If Khalid can do it why not Evans?

I'd actually be surprised if Najee beat out Evans next year for the #1 spot. If you had no clue what anyone's star rating was coming in, Evans would sure look like an omg 5* HS prospect who was coming in with limit snaps and looked extremely promising in doing so, prepping for his upcoming role as the feature back for 2-3 years
January 2nd, 2017 at 1:46 PM ^
for a feature back. Great chance of pace guy, but can't see him pounding it between the tackles repeatedly and putting him in short yardage situations, pass blocking, etc. Probably not a high volume, every down back. I wouldn't complain of course if that's what he is, but Walker, Higdon and hopefully Harris will need to play a lot of snaps next year.
January 2nd, 2017 at 11:55 AM ^
I think that is more hyperbole than a specific demand or promise. I feel like that's an implication that Harris believes he can be the bell cow pretty quick. Harbaugh isn't going to promise anyone the ability to skip competition; Harris is just in the mind that he's a head above the competition. Chris Evans isn't going anywhere from this offense. Whoever else plays well will get their shot as well.
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:17 PM ^
regardless. Not sure how reliable that is, but the recent glowing reports about Walker may have an impact too.
January 2nd, 2017 at 12:57 PM ^
isaac and davis seem fairly safe bets (and shallman though not sure he counts as RB)
January 2nd, 2017 at 1:11 PM ^
Although I don't recall seeing him on defense (or offense) this season.

and also Wolverine in a bag. Did I get that right?

I'm doing the exact same thing.
However, I've been calling Harris to Michigan since the Wheatley tweet so it's weird that I believe he's coming to A2 but don't want to watch the highlights to get my hopes up.
Doesn't make much sense at all.
