Positive Najee Harris Rumors from Michigan/USC 247 Board

Submitted by Caesar on

Hello folks,

Someone named Free Kobe, who has allegedly been info-solid since just after Pete Carroll's time at USC, says that signs favor Michigan, especially insofar as they don't look good for other teams:

  • That cal was closer than people realize due to a cal coach that has known family forever
  • Mom wants no part of her boy in the Deep South
  • Family wants him to get away from Nocal
  • USC and Michigan coaches have done a great job of recruiting him including having chance airport meetings with him
  • USC coach thinks he can pull both Carr and Harris but Carr 7on7 coach says no way in hell would Carr stick with USC in that scenario
  • Alabama returns everybody and Harris sees himself as three and out
  • He is better than anyone Michigan has now and Michigan will give him the ball 30 times a game
  • Been hearing Michigan for almost three weeks
  • Take it for what it's worth.

Just watched his highlights myself for the first time.

His speed and quickness are fine, but I wasn't bowled over—he was caught from behind a few times by DBs. Just for comparison, Dalvin Cook seems quicker and faster to me, although being in college ball for three years might account for that. Maybe a fairer comparison is with Salvon Ahmed, a 2017 commit to Washington—that kid has tremendous wheels.

What most impressed me about Harris are two things: 1. His balance—in spite of the fact he's allegedly 6'-3", he's able to put his hand on the ground to keep from going down, indicating he's running pretty low, which is good as well 2. His ability to change direction both in traffic and especially in the open field, which is unusual for such a big guy. He's using change of direction and change of speed to make defenders miss, and he's got just enough speed to take advantage of it. He also gets plenty of yards after initial contact—you're not going to arm tackle him very often.

I think this is pretty close to what Sam Webb was looking to hear to get his gut feeling on Najee. Sam knows the Michigan side is very confident. He wanted to hear Najee's side. If it's true that his mom doesn't want Bama, then Sam will issue his gut feeling for Najee soon once he confirms.

I also saw Nick Baumgardner (i know, i know.) Posted on Mlive that Harris will make his final decision at the conclusion of the Army All American game. I know alot of times recruits do this and just reafirm to the team they are already commited to...but he seems like a quiet kid who avoids the drama of recruiting....so this is interesting to say the least. But i also remember hearing all early enrollees would need to be in school by the 4th...so im not sure how him starting the following week would really work.

For sure. I don't want any more "I'm hearing th coaches are confident" crap. He has to have some type of solid source.

Consider this....it is possible that Sam may have talked to Harris and told Sam that he's coming (let's just pretend here for a minute) but also told him he doesn't want him spoiling anything or making a big deal about it. So, consequently, Sam just says general positive things but doesn't put in a GUT feeling or anything like that.

Obviously pure speculation, but with as low key as he seems to want to play it, you have to entertain the possibility of things like that (and not limited to Sam, but other reporters)

The only positive news I care to hear about is when he commits.  Until then all these "rumors" mean nothing.

What we need is another HUGE game from that Bama RB in the CFP championship game (Scarborough sp??). Get the media hype train (aka "preseason Heisman") running hard and fast going into the offseason.
