Warde Manuel being sued by former U-Conn player
http://deadspin.com/ex-uconn-soccer-player-sues-school-after-losing-sch…
A soccer player lost her scholarship after flipping the bird to to ESPNU. They had just won the conference chanpionship. If this is true, it's awful.

Not exactly the same. Swenson was never on the team and coaches do that all the time. Look at Antjuan Simmons.

How is pulling a scholarship from a kid who has just finshed her freshman season in college similar to pulling an offer from a kid in high school? Swenson went to Oklahoma, he was not some poor kid that got screwed over.
As for Warde Manuel and his defenders, we don't know what his reactions were to really any of the things that have happened lately. What we do know is he screwed up pretty big with the ND scheduling, and officails have been screwing Harbaugh over all year under his watch. It is obvious the refs have been trying to put Harbaugh in his place since he came to UM, I don't know if the AD is doing anything behind the scenes but if they are it's not working.

No it isn't the same. Literally every college team does it. Dantonio, Urban, Saban, Harbaugh. The difference is that she is actually on the team and attends classes and is forcibly uprooted. Swenson just didn't get to attend the school he wanted to.

OP this is a terrible thread title. Warde Manuel is not the primary party of this lawsuit. It is UConn and her former coach. The thread title makes it sound like Manuel is the focus of this.

I agree with you for the most part, and will wait for both sides to come out. However, it is concerning. Warde was the AD and oversaw the coach and associate AD. He could've done something. It ultimately falls on him, whether it's fair or not.
As we all know, Don Canham used to say never turn a one-day story into a two-day story. What should've been a one-day story is now rearing its ugly head two years later.

From the start of his tenure he has said and done things that I have questioned, like the night game thing.
I wish he would have made a public comment about the inequity of the officials in the OSU game, why were there Ohio refs who were OSU fans reffing that game.
Not sure about this situation, I'm more concerned about how he handles the AD job here.
But I gotta say, I'm not impressed with the guy at all thus far.

Also, Michigan should have complained about the officials prior to the game.

It's not the AD's job to vet the Big Ten's officiating assignments. Especially not in public. Now, Warde might have placed a phone call to the officiating office and inquired about the selection process in private, or something to that effect. Who knows. But, if you're looking for a puiblic lambasting by Warde, you're way off base.

It sure as fuck aught to be now!

Did you alter the autocorrect settings to change "Ohio" to "Ohino" on your iPhone/iPad?

LMAO! Start out on Monday in the press conference before OSU, ND and MSU games telling the public that we might as well get this out of the way right off the bat. We know the refs are going to fuck us this game so why not deal with it right now!

One thing i truly despised about Dave Brandon was the way he strutted around every sporting event like he was some glorified NFL owner.
I think it's important to support every team & showing up as an AD or a fan is fine,
but somehow he just seemed to add an element of pompus slime every time he did it.
Add in the other meddling we've heard about & it only makes it worse.
I would never want Warde to act like that, but i think there's a middle ground that can be reached by having the AD show some public support, make a statement, yet keep all the discussions private & the backroom deals where they belong.
100% silence from the AD's office is just going to create a vaccum that either speaks for itself, or begs for speculation & assumptions that are more often than not false.
I don't think Warde has acheived that balance just yet, but I hope he does.
additionally, as much as I love Jim Harbaugh, working with him cannot be an easy task.

If there's any justice in the world, the jury should come in post-deliberation, and when the judge asks "Have you reached a verdict?" they all stand and give the UConn table the double finger.
Really not sure what to make of our AD and not clear to what extent he was involved in the decision making in this case.
December 21st, 2016 at 7:58 AM ^
It's not just active decision making but culpability in that he *should* have interceded on her behalf. He was the boss, after all. Not giving a shit about a non revenue sport isn't an excuse, when it can throw her life in chaos
December 21st, 2016 at 2:35 AM ^
Especially in lawsuits. That said, the only side we've heard from doesn't make Warde look so good.

Technically, we don't even know if Warde said that. The player is alleging he said that he had no intention of pulling the scholarship. Let's assume he did say it. Would it surprise anyone if the very next sentence out of his mouth was "However, I ultimately leave scholarship decisions up to my coaches."
Also, lets not forget that scholarships are 1-year agreements, not 4-year agreements.
December 21st, 2016 at 2:50 AM ^
I see a lot of people writing this, but the most we can draw from this at this point was that he didn't intervene to stop her coach. We have no idea how involved he was in this, but it doesn't sound like much seeing he is barely mentioned in the lawsuit. How much did she actually communicate with him? How much did this soccer coach keep him in the loop? If he didn't know much about what was going on, I think at most you could say he and the AD was negligent.

There's barely a mention of Warde Manuel and no mention of his ties to the decision. Your obvious dislike for Manuel is obvious.
This is one side of the story and she even references turning her game around. We have no idea why her scholarship was pulled.
This is a terrible thread.
