"Ultimate Ranking of Fandoms"

Ranking of the top 250 fan bases "from sport to entertainment, celebrities to brands."
Michigan checks in at 48.
Others of note:
1. Cubs
8. Buckeyes
17. Irish
22. Tide
46. Duke
113. Wings
245. Spartans - appropriately ranked near WWE, Horror Fans, and Hunger Games.
So.... fifth highest college fan base. Fair enough since turmoil has brought out the worst of us in recent years.

Cubs being #1 on this list doesn't work for me. Sure, the real fans are die hards... But, that accounts for like 10% of th fanbase.... The other 90% are Wrigley fans.

Wrigley fans rock. Go Cubs Go

Cubs at #1 invaldiates the whole endeavor. Most misguided fans in sport. Great for them that they won this year, sure there are a ton of them. But every year (going back for more than 100 of 'em), they were convinced that this would be the year. And until this season they always, always lost.

Protest on the President's lawn organized on a message board that drew hundreds in the middle of the week, etc etc.

You might call fans turning against successful coaches diehard or hardcore. I call it entitled and worthy of a demotion.

Perhaps you are too young to recall but some fans most certainly called for Carr's head late in his career. I've recently seen fans call out Beilein. Then there is the RR ordeal. I don't want to get into a debate about whether or not he would have ever worked out under ideal circumstances, but it well known that he was not accepted by high profile alumni from day 1.

Arizona has been very supportive of RR and it seems to have umm...well anyway, yes, support is crucial.

exactly known for football and any success there is a bonus for those fans. That program was terrible when he arrived and he has a 36-29 record and 3-1 in bowl games since he arrived. He's done a very good job there.

They literally finished last in the entire PAC 12, 12/12 this year....
December 6th, 2016 at 7:33 PM ^
No, but I saw you reply to a post about Hoke and Brandon countering WD.
December 6th, 2016 at 10:26 PM ^
WD's post did not mention Hoke. My response did not mention Hoke. You made an erroneous assumption.

Carr was 11-1 the season before he retired... We went to the Rose bowl 3 out of 4 years prior.
December 7th, 2016 at 2:35 PM ^
Yeah and then he tanked the program for the next 7 years because of petty differences, et al.

Some of the treatment of him was unfair but at the same time, when you start losing to OSU over and over and then lose to App St, there's going to be some unhappy fans.

I'm confused, maybe I'm missing something.
The protests were more about Dave Brandon than they were about Hoke, but in what universe is Brady Hoke a successful coach?

...and you're sinking fast, my friend. Quit while you're behind.

Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys fans are probably the most "hardcore" fans. They are the "put the game on in and wear your jerseys to church" fans.

Kind of odd to see all these random things ranked together, but whatever.
Seeing The Kardashians, Kanye, and Justin beiber all ranked ahead of Michigan makes me weep for society.
Also nice for MSU to check in at 245 out of 250. That's worth at least one more dignity win.
December 6th, 2016 at 6:05 PM ^
Two things: 1. That list suffers from heavy recency bias. "Hamilton" at #42? Come on now. It wasn't a thing last year, and won't be a thing next year. 2. Kanye West at #32, ahead of the University of Michigan? Bull-Fucking-Shit.

I guess the only real question is how to tell my wife that "Supernatural" sits comfortably between Neil Gaiman and GQ, but well below things like The Seahawks and Katy Perry.
Oh well, I will find a way to do that.

This is a pretty asanine ranking. Comparing levels of enthusiasm for so many disparate phenomena is idiotic. Apples and oragnes doesn't quite describe it; it's more like apples and nachos.
December 6th, 2016 at 6:47 PM ^
It's like comparing apples and rectal thermometers...

"Wow, another pointless list that has no explanation of the criteria," says the erudite man.
"Wow, a listicle that will attract clicks from anyone who is a fan of anything - that's some good work, intern!" says the sleazy internet editor.

110k at the big house 7 or 8 times a year and a high quality website like this purely dedicated to Michigan fandom.
48 is too high. That list is garbage.

The Legend of Zelda got shafted. Top 175 for sure.

Agree.
Id take half life 3 over the rest of the list combined.
