What Team(s) do you want Michigan to play in a bowl? What teams do you want to avoid?

Submitted by Minus The Houma on

In the purely hypothetical realm where Michigan does not make the playoffs what team or teams would you like to see them match up against in a bowl? Why do you want to play them?

On the flip side, what teams do you, at this time, do you just not really want a piece of?

Ignore bowl tie ins and what not, use your judgement on the likely teams in the playoff.

For the exercise I am going to use the current CFP rankings as who will play in the playoff.

I feel like I'm not shooting high enough when thinking of teams to beat. I was liking the idea of creaming Florida again, but at this time they don't even seem like a worthy opponent. All the talking heads are giving USC the hot hand at the moment. I think they have to be my pick for who I would like to see Michigan play. This defense loves to feast on freshman QBs. Why not go after the current golden boy?

As for a team I don't want to play my mind keeps going to Wisconsin. Super unlikely matchup anyway, but for some reason I just don't like it. I know they have a questionable quarterback situation right now but I just don't want it. It's hard for me, outside of the top 4 the rest of the top 25 don't really put any fear into my heart. I guess we have come a long way.

What do you guys and girls have?

Assuming Clemson and Washington lose and we jump Wisky/PSU, I'd hope that the committee would give us o$u in the first round. On a neutral field with a set of officials that have no ties to the state of ohio or the university of ohio state (as terrelle pryor called it) I don't think it would be close. I'd love to see an ass whooping. 45-7. And then we could go on to lose to Bama and I wouldn't even care.

edit- I guess jumping Wisky/PSU isn't possible since we're already ahead of them. If they don't jump us, rather.

I also agree I would like to avoid u$c. They may just be the hottest team in the country right now after making the qb change. Plus Michigan's record in the Rose bowl is awful. I'd still take it over the buffalo wild wings bowl, though.

As others have said the dream CFP scenario is we best Alabama then OSU in the NC game. Barring that I'd rather have the Orange Bowl and FSU. Miami isn't a hot program right now, and beating Florida last bowl season, FSU this bowl season, and then Florida again next September would go a long way making additional inroads into state of Florida recruiting.

If we aren't in the playoff, I'd rather see us play the highest ranked team of our possible matchups, whoever that ends up being. Curbstomping that team would be a nice way to make a statement to the committee that we should have been in the top 4.

Don't give a shit about anything else but righting that wrong.

Need both Washington and Clemson to lose so we can get in at #3 and play them.

Unfortunately, I don't like our chances against Bama if we sneak in at #4, as their D-line will annihilate our O-line .  Our defense would be on the field too long and eventually cave in the 4th quarter - similar to the Bama - LSU game, or even the UM-OSU game (disregarding all the reffing shenanigans and bs).

If things go as predicted,Florida State is a great matchup, they are playing really well and that defense is for real and totally different that it was a month ago.

I'd like OSU to miss the playoffs too after Wisconsin jumps is both (which they never deserve but just do) and so a rematch in the Orange Bowl. Worst FCS to date but Orange bowl breaks viewing records when we get our revenge with a fully healed QB and neutral refs.

And then I don't care who we play first, we'd have to win two anyways, more than likely Alabama and someone else. If not, I'm very cool with the Orange Bowl and FSU. Rose would be the best non-CFP choice, but I just don't see that happening.

Assuming the CFP is out of reach I'd like to do Orange Bowl vs Louisville. If you're not in the CFP may as well get the team a win to go out on. Plus, playing a team that isn't in the state the bowl is in (USC in Rose, Florida State in Orange) makes it less like an away game. We also have a decent alumni base down there, have a lot of people down there on vacation that time of year and could draw a good crowd.

As much as I'd like to hold out hope for mass chaos to get us into the playoffs, I am going to be realistic. I think the Orange Bowl vs FSU is the likely game. They'll be a far better match up than the offense-less Gators were last year, but Dalvin Cook scares the crap out of me. But not as much as facing Lamar Jackson would.

I would like to play USC to shut up the people who think they're world-beaters. I would not want to play Louisville because they have lost all their luster and if Lamar Jackson has a game we could lose. On a neutral field I think we would crush anyone else in the top 25 that isn't Alabama.

I don't want to play Western Michigan, which would be likely if we get an at-large invitation to the Cotton Bowl.

First, as good as Western has been this season, I don't think it would be a competitive game, which would be kind of a downer. And second, because Western has had such a magical season, that I don't want us to be the ones to wreck it.

I'd be OK with playing any other bowl team that we didn't play during the regular season.
