RUMOR: Speight dinged up

Submitted by poppinfresh on
Sam Webb hinting that Speight's shoulder is dinged up and we may see more of Okorn in non blowout time against Indiana. There are Twitter rumors (the account name not lending a ton of credence) that speight is dealing with a more severe shoulder injury, a broken collar bone. https://mobile.twitter.com/MichNasty86/status/797930097483231232 There are also rumors on Facebook similar to this Twitter account but hard to tell since Michigan doesn't release injury info and I didn't see speight in a sling last night. Again Webb not saying broken collar bone, but dinged up. Rumors more severe.

I broke my collarbone in high school, there is no way he would continue to play if he did. The pain is excruciating. More than likely joint sprain or bruise I'd guess.

If the rumors about Speight's collarbone are true, then we're really in trouble for that OSU game as the situation currently stands.

I mean sure, luckily O'Korn will have the IU game to get his feet wet as the starter in a friendly environment, and its not like this would be his first rodeo, but OSU is going to stack the box and dare O'Korn to try and beat them with his arm.

Who knows? Harbaugh works wonders with QBs and could maybe get him up to speed in two weeks. Stranger things have happened. But O'Korn will have to come into his own in a hurry. OSU's defense is licking its chops after what they saw on Saturday night.

That's why O'Korn came here, and he only has a couple of games left to make an impact.  He'll step up.

He's been a starter before and he's been with Harbaugh the whole year.  He's not a freshman suddenly thrown into the fray.

He also was close enough to Speight to drag out the QB competition until August.

He'll be fine if called on.

O'Korn has the tools and experience to make it happen if called upon. Good coaches prepare for the worst and they must have been bringing O'Korn along all season. Seemed in command of the offense - his stat line from limited game time: 13 for 18 (72%), 114 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, 162 efficiency rating

Not all collarbone breaks are the same. I shattered my collarbone which required surgery, a plate, 8 screws and a bone graft. Recovery time from that is much longer than a clean break.

This Saturday's game is going to come down to how our O Line performs, plain and simple. Indiana is very stingy against the run, and if we have O'Korn play, we need to give him time to throw the ball downfield to get his confidence going. Guys need to step up and play their best game as it is their last time playing at the big house (i.e. Kalis, Magnuson, Braden).

I hate posting this, but a reputable poster at the Edge of the Internet has confirmed - but only to the extent that his sources have told him this is true - that Speight's collar bone is broken.

I've been a professional mentally ill Michigan fan and message board scourer for about five years now.  Based on my previous experience panning for nuggets of actual information from across the internet, I regretfully conclude that the weight of the evidence points to this being true at this point.

Hopefully, this can be chalked up either to (1) an echo chamber effect or (2) faulty information delivered to a root source.

Just watched the post-game interview of Speight and he was taking questions and did not look in pain. If he had a broken collarbone, it would have swelled up, he would have been in severe pain in a sling and never allowed to talk with the media. Now if he has an MRI back home and it shows a ligament tear, then he may not play against Indiana. Hopefully, it is just a strain and no material damage. He said he just had a bad night and missed his chances too many times, no mention of shoulder issue.

I've broken both sides of my Clavicle on separate occasions. Neither break swelled up.

I can't say I've ever heard of swelling with a broken collar bone. I'm not saying it's impossible cuz I'm not a doctor, but maybe I guess.

The thing about your clavicle is that if it's a common break, it doesn't hurt unless you move it around. So during the interview, he could have been on some pain meds or just in a figure 8 sling to hold the shoulders back.

When they were showing the training staff examining Speight's shoulder, there was a point when the trainer pushes on a spot under the shoulderpads and Speight says, "Yeah, right there." My first thought was AC joint...

Just saw on twitter Wilton Speight indeed has a broken left collar bone. Ill I can say that is one tough young man to continue playing with a broken collar bone. I have no idea how he was able to throw. Get well young man, sorry to hear of your injury. Ace Anbender of mgoblog.com is the source.

Said it looked like a bad injury--I don't remember if he specifically said "broken collarbone" but he said that Speight's left arm was completely limp, which if you watch enough football you know is a sign of a collarbone or other serious shoulder injury.

I hoped he was wrong, but he sounded pretty sure that Speight was in serious distress coming off the field.
