Reportedly, Tennessee had a players only meeting that resulted in a bunch of players (including star RB Jalen Hurd) quitting the team.

There seems to be a ton of institutional strife going on at Tennessee, with the alleged sexual assault scandal added to it.

Is it possible that Butch Jones (and our old buddy Mike DeBord) lose their job this season?

Well, lost my first reply to formatting issues.  I'll do my best, but can't promise anything.

It is well past rumor stage, Hurd who was a 5* recruit and also recruited other players to UT is gone.  What is rumor is how he ran back to the sideline after scoring a TD and yelled at Butch "You can't win without me."

They have had an insane injury bug over the last couple years.  This year they may be suiting up the water boy in a couple weeks to play defense.

UT also really wanted Kongbo as he is an insanely large kid who dwarves pretty much anyone he is near.  He also tweeted a mildly cryptic picture of his cleats hung up soon after the SC loss.  The timing and subject of the picture were not accidental I'm sure.

Butch put all of his eggs into the DeBored offense which shouldn't have gotten anohter year.  The Volls haven't played a 60minute game yet and have relied on come from behind luck and bad refs for too many wins.

9-4 and kids are quitting?

Those are not the kids you can win with.

Butch Jones has done some dumb shit and perhaps he should be fired, but I'd say those kids quitting and a 9-4 season isn't an issue.

LOL

Not so fun after realizing the team isn't that good, huh? All of those lucky wins they had earlier this season. They did not happen because you're good, Tennessee. They were luck.

As an amusing sidenote, Wikipedia ( someone pissed about the last three weeks of Tennessee football more than likely) fired Mike DeBord briefly this morning, although it looks as if the article was restored again.

Also, DeBord said "If we execute, we're hard to defend" in a presser too, so there's that. Shocked he didn't say that "60% of the time, it works all of the time"

Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped another game.

That team has not learned how to play 60 full minutes of football this year. They barely skated by against almost everyone they played, and then got their doors blown off when they faced a truly good team. Now that they just lost to a very, very average South Carolina team, they've got to all be rattled and wondering what could've been this year.

I doubt Jones gets canned unless another scandal emerges, and/or they drop multiple games to end the season. But I'm thinking Tennessee is telling themselves that they don't want to have to compete with LSU and Texas for a head coach, and potentially others as well. They'll get the third best candidate in an absolute best-case scenario.

Let's not and say we did. We'd have to have him on scholarship for two years in order to get one year of playing time, since I don't think he will have graduated from UT, and he's a malcontent who would be learning a new position. I'd rather continue feeding guys like Evans and Higdon and recruiting stud freshmen.

Had his uncle as saying he was unhappy about the style of play for this year.  They ran the I-formation in their bowl game and he had a big game and was told this season they'd run out of the I...and they have yet to do that.  Pro scouts saying he has a better shot at the next level at WR or TE so that's his reason to switch positions now.

I'd say we'd have an open competition at WR right now.  TE may be a bit more loaded for PT.

Some of the rumors may be inaccurate, but the facts are pretty hard to ignore:

Tennessee's star RB, a crucial cog of the team, has announced his transfer IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON.

Where there is smoke, there is a tire fire. Even in our worst rock bottom moments we did not have guys jumping ship mid-year. This is virtually unprecedented.

Tennessee could be forgiven for losing on the road to A&M and at home to Bama. But South Carolina is just plain bad, there's no excuse for that. They're in full melt-down mode, and serious locker room trouble is a very plausible explanation.

Hurd isn't transferring just because they've lost three games.

It's crazy to me how far the mighty SEC has fallen down in the coaching ranks. I remember for years everyone was always hiring the net up and coming SEC coordinator, now the conference is littered with guys who recruit like hell but can't coach for shit.

I was thinking about that recently. The SEC, since Saban appeared in Tuscaloosa, has been busy hiring a bunch of middling head coaches or upcoming assistant coaches. Very few guys hired since then have been proven head coaches before landing an SEC gig. Looks like it's finally starting to catch up with them.

Just putting this out there in passing... but if you look at Feldman's twitter page linked in the OP...and look at the comments/reax he has... look for Sarah.  She's a TAMU fan.  Click on her twitter account for a picture of her.  Not making a big deal of it, but, just, let's say, I wish all of you homies looked like she does.  And not that this will be the highlight of your day either, but you'll feel better for having looked.
